Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

You don't need to be playing champagne footy in Round 1 to win a flag. You just need to bank points.

I'm sure we'll lose games this year. Some games will be more frustrating than others. But I prefer to live in the present. We won a game of footy. I genuinely feel sorry for those who can't savour that.

I savour most wins. That won’t be one of them.

Of course, 4 points in Round 1 is better than the alternative. I just was hoping to see a lot more than what we saw.

Very rusty. On a calm day we would have kicked 16.9 at least as most of our shots were in the corridor.

Clarry, Max and Trac should be embarrassed being out done tactically at stoppages all game. Novice ruck and a young but good midfield. Those 3 need to be able to adapt and change the course of the game. Having said that Clarry and Trac still played well

Yes. good to get a win.

The thing that got to me was that, every time the ball was bobbing around on the ground amongst a group of players, it was pretty much a for-gone conclusion that a Freo player would emerge with the ball and clear it out of the congested area!  Our ball handling in those tight areas just seems SO clumsy...

Terribly uninspiring game. Good win. You take what you can get at this point.

I can’t deny that our backline saved our bacon. Lever and May sensational. Jetta more than held his own.
For me the midfield was disappointing. Gawn “dominated” on paper but it certainly didn’t translate into any sort of meaningful ball movement or clearance work until the last few minutes of the game.
I’ll put this down to being rusty and out of touch. But gees we would want to improve our clearance work fast, or it’s going to be another long season.
I thought our ball use going inside 50 was actually much improved. But our goal kicking, oh boy.
Overall a lot of “learnings” ??

Might want to watch the mid section of the last quarter. We had some shockers.

I had half signed off by then but mostly recall some poor entries in that period, Harmes being one. The clearance-bang-it-on-boot-forward issue wasn't as evident. Acknowledged that we didn't have Viney out there or as many centre clearances, but everyone has been complaining about it for years and so should acknowledge that we seem to be making a concerted effort to address the issue at the start of the season rather than after a poor loss mid-way through. Fixing that may also be causing some of our clearance and other issues to an extent, such as Clarry holding onto the ball for too long (likely another response to a common complaint).

Do we even do goal kicking practice? Looked like an afterthought from some...

Jackson 5 hrs goal practice.

We take a rd 1 win, gotta be happy for that. I certainly hope we can improve the amount of stupid mistakes, errors that we made under no pressure, luckily freo did too but I dgaf about them. From my viewing, tv, the boys all had a crack so I’m taking that as a step forward.
Missed some very easy goals, and I noticed the ump called that tracca ran off the line for the kick after the final siren, not that it mattered THIS time, and would have ruled no score! Anybody else notice this? Could be an interesting reference for, say a buddy kick after the siren for the win, tracca certainly didn’t arc like buddy but got called. Time will tell ?

Happy for the win.  First round 1 victory in 4 seasons! Pleased to see a number of the usual suspects (aka the whipping boys) making team orientated positive contributions. Tom McDonald was a leading light (cream does rise to the top). Thought a number of the younger inclusions all had some good moments. That being said, plenty of scope for improvement particularly around the clearances and goal kicking needs to tighten up. Defence was the glue that won the day. Steven May, and Jake Lever are the wall, honourable mentions to Adam Tomlinson and Neville Jetta very solid games overall.

Made Freo look a bad team. Good pressure at times. Really rushed at them and gave them very little space. Basically dominated, though both teams didn't make the most of chances.

Good defensive marking and set up.

Hopefully, that is getting the rust out of the system. A few times we took it a bit easy, AFL requires, 100% concentration. Don't like unforced errors.

"Ruthless", still isn't in our vocabulary. Second quarter we could have finished them.

We need to read it better of the ruck tap, and at packs.

C'mon Maxy, put the ball down their throat.

Thought all the players did their bit when they had too, no passengers.

Great backline, forwards taking marks, mids controlling it at times.

The tempo of the game was well managed by team. Ran out the game.

When the score got closer, they were able to apply enough pressure and skill to kick away again.

Good to get a win, but being at the game there was not a lot to get enthused about. Same old skill errors, Oliver and Petracca still have that tendency to try something cute which ultimately leads to a turnover. They need to get that out of their game.
Some positives:

I thought they showed a lot more maturity in stemming and turning around what looked like being a Freo comeback. The forward pressure was good. And of course May and Lever.

The biggest negative was Jackson. I honestly don’t know what his position is, was beaten easily in the ruck, and don’t see him in our forward structure going forward. And the less said about his kicking the better

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
