Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Yeah, fair enough.

No it's not, the comment was rubbish. I knew the game was on 5 days before it happened. Miraculously a number of supporters managed to get to the game and report on it! I accept that it wasn't promoted as much as it could of been but seriously a lot of people want to be spoon fed and perhaps they need the drool wiped away at the same time.

I'm not sure that maybe sending an email, putting something up on the website and reporting on the game is being spoon-fed but if it is then I would think members & future members should expect to be spoon-fed.

If you want to involve fans & build a membership base then you have to put in the work...it's shouldn't be the members/fans job to go searching.

Its not up to the supporters rather its up to the management of the club to incorporate the supporter base within the club.

Ok, I get it, you like to be spoon fed and when the budget has been cut by 40% and all those people who usually wiped away your drool aren't available anymore you want to stamp your feet and won't spend any time on getting a bib.

I'm not expecting anything, just saying if the club wants to build the base they have to do the work, not the other way around.

I actually don't have a lot of faith in the current management...

Cmon nev, you know how important good communication with fans is.

Sure it was a VFL practice match. But what does that mean in this context?

Its not some random VFL practice match with some dees players running around to get some match fitness and touch (eg for Sandringham a few years back pre Casey Scorpians).

The Casey DEMONS are our reserves team. One of the three teams that make up the demons.

We made a strategic decision to not go down the Richmond path and create our own VFL team.

Instead as a club we made the call to strengthen the alignment with Casey. Casey changed their  a name (which would have caused much angst at casey), linkied the coaching, new jumper and dees song. We train there  have financialy invested in the club and have committed to the club and region.

Leaving aside the fact that this match was the last meaningful opportunity for some key players to make a case for round one selection, and that there has been reduced practice games and no training access, not letting fans know  about the game is not supportive of the Casey Demons. Our reserves team. Apparently.

And for Pete's sake how hard would a short piece on the website ahead of the game be?

Maybe as sue suggests they didn't want people there but they could still say its on and who is playing.

And send Ben Gibson down to report on it. Or the media intern they advertised for. The one they said they wouldn't pay. Another command own goal.

Jeez, good communication is 101 for businesses (which we are). A stated club goal is to build our membership base.

Sure the die-hards like us will be members but for those fans who are ambivalent about shelling out 200 plus dollars surely good communication is an important part of the value proposition?

Particularly for a club that is giving fans finals and has no home base.

Like I said if this was a one off then no big deal. But it ain't. Far from it. They had improved considerably in the 2020 preseason period but gone backwards again since.

And money is no excuse. Good comms don't need flashy, expensive videos. Just timely information through channels thst are basically free, other than staff time.

I hardly ever go to the club's website for info. Which is ridiculous. I would but it is hopeless. I come to demonland. Which is how I found out gus, kozzie and hibberd were playing and therefore some chance to play in out critical round one game.

And to learn daw might be some chance too.

Well said , strongly suggest and hope you represent many of us and bring it to the attention of Pert etc..

Ok, maybe I went in a little hard, I agree that fan engagement is important. Yes, the SMS's last year were useful in keeping me up to date about ... whatever. I'm not sure who was doing that and I'm sorry they probably don't have a job anymore. Hopefully someone might volunteer and we can all be better informed. In the mean time I'll continue to be well informed by paying attention.

I’m unable to provide a link to the story by Chris Cavanagh on page 89 of today’s Sunday Herald Sun “CASEY HAUL GIVES DAW SOLID START” so I’ll summarize.

It starts by highlighting the fact that Majak Daw was one of Casey’s standouts in its 35-point practice match win over the Box Hill Hawks on Friday night. Daw kicked four goals for the night. However, that news was tempered by the fact that the club has said he “is some way from being fit” and has “got a lot of work ahead of him.” On that basis, don’t expect him to play in Round 1.

The article adds that Kysaiah Pickett continues “his push for a Round 1 return as he also produced a lively performance”.

I think communication is very important if they ever want to expand and reach membership numbers. They really should look at how the top EPL clubs it se social media to engage supporters.

Rjay I have been giving the club the benefit of the doubt because of reduced staff numbers etc last year and this year but I am beginning get a little tired of letting them off. Some things are more important than others and I guess what is important varies from one member to another. However somethings I believe are vital. For a club that struggles to maintain member numbers on the eve of a new season that follows on a very disappointing end to last year then surely pre season practice game news is vital. But apparently not in the eyes of the MFC. It would appear they are more attuned  to the mushroom factory principal.

Perhaps I haven't been clear enough OD, I hope you've been able to pick up that I've been giving the benefit of the doubt to the Club and I think it's naive to think the Club are unaware of the need to engage with potential members. Your comment about pre season practice game news being "vital" is hard to justify in relation to the Casey game and I can't see the connection between knowing this game was on and an increase in membership. If there is one thing that is "vital" it's wins early in the season. So if Pert has focused limited dollars on the Football program instead of media for a Casey practice game then I'm happy with that. I've coughed up for two Redleg memberships already and cannot understand how anyone could be influenced to purchase a membership on the basis of how well or otherwise a "Casey" practice match was promoted.

You know I can be abrasive and I'm not always forthcoming with the reasoning behind some of my more provocative language but my tolerance level is pretty low for ..... certain behavior. If you go back through this thread you will find a couple of people who have ...... complained that if they had of known the game was being played around the corner (in Box Hill) they would have gone. This is after repeated information that the game was being played at CASEY. Is it any wonder  I mentioned "spoon feeding".

I know I have a jaundiced view of things but by way of explanation; after 40 odd years in emergency response I'm unable to remember when someone called to tell us they had done something clever.

this is true, but i also think daniel's relatively quiet second half - at least compared to the first - was because they were winning the ball at the contest rather than executing slingshot from half-back

for all of daniel's influence for footscray in the back half in quarters 1 and 2 it wasn't necessarily reflected on the scoreboard (in no small part due to their inaccuracy)

Dazzle, for most of the 1st Quarter and I was watching closely, Spargo was Daniel's direct opponent. The amount of times Daniel mopped up and set of across Half back and launched attacks was telling. Spargo just seemed to be in no mans land.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo
