Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Winger, winger, chicken dinner?!

Bowey would be the best option. Has the speed and footy nous. We have a lot of players playing out of position, Daw should be CHB, Petty should CHF and Joel.Smith should be FP. Bowey is another that should be placed on the wing. Rosman another that should be on the wing.

I'm still annoyed we missed out on Tom Phillips, I'm sure it would have been looked at if we were able to move T-Mac but that wasn't the case. But it shouldn't have come down to that anyway.

Of course he's going to do well at the Hawks, useful players tend to go there (aside from recent years). Whereas we like the left field eye brow raiser like Tomlinson.

Agree. I’d been pushing Tom Phillips as a target for a while even before end of 2020. He was clearly gettable and we missed out.  Mahoney and Goodwin’s claim of making Tomlinson a wing option is ridiculous.  He is too slow and static.

The game has changed again.  The value of fast, accurate and high footy iq ‘quarterbacks’ off HB (short and Daniels as examples) is becoming apparent to set up overlap chains.  Salem and Bowey work there for mine (more so than Hunt) with Kozzie pressing up to be the corridor speedster.  This leaves Langdon as the preferred wing option on one side, and still a gap on the other.  Rosman is a longer term possibility.  Baker has shown flashes, but might need more time.  It could also be TMac  on rotation.  At least we have one wing sorted.  Wish R Flower at his peak could be slotted onto the other wing, or maybe S Stretch.

The wing problem has me stumped. I was not a star footballer, so know that at the outset.  I mostly played full CHF and it was always tough to get a kick let alone star. However for some reson one day my coach put me on the wing. It was as if playing a totally different game. I think I got two to three times the kicks as CHF with the same ability I had previously. other than getting caught for pace against a racehorse type a good AFL player should be able to play the wing competently. It is in my opinion a lot about positioning and footy smarts. I may be wrong so go for your life if you think what I say is too simple.

Played wing myself a few times and it was definitely easier to rack up possessions than sitting in the forward line.  The issue i found is that i blew up rather quickly as the running required was extreme compared to playing forward.  Whoever plays the role is going to need to have a fair sized tank unless we plan on just rotating players through there.

We have a very good one in Langdon, two star wingman are feared and win you premierships.

This is where this club annoys me so much, they went hard at Isaac Smith then when he chose Geelong they decided to stop the search.. Tom Phillips was there, he was there for the taking, he would have complimented this side so much. If We are trotting out Oscar Baker or Tom Mcdonlad as our wing then we are stuft.

St Kilda went and targeted players, they got them, Bulldogs did the same, the Bombers and the Hawks do it.. we think getting Brown was all we needed.. its an absolute farce and the club is selling hope and finals.. please.. just get professional.. our coach wears shorts and looks like he hadn't slept for 5 weeks yesterday.. is just a poorly run, unprofessional football CLUB.

Just a bit fed up with it all.

Very close to my exact thoughts. All well and good to have a target, when that target failed I just can’t work out why they didn’t then turn their attention to Phillips who surely would’ve been keener to play for a club more likely to be competing for finals this year rather than a club going through a rebuild. He would’ve slotted in perfectly and certainly better than any of the options we have tried so far.

That said we’ve made our bed so now to lie in it. I’m not sure if he’s got the fitness for it but would Petty be an option? The more likely option would be to send Petty to cover Tomlinson and give Tommo another crack. Baker doesn’t seem up to it, BUT if the club believes he’s a serious option then play him for 3-4 games and tell him to own the responsibility. No use in giving him one game to sink or swim.

TMac is not a winger, play him in the forward line. It’s where he needs to be.

I think Bowey would be good but its a bit early, he would need to have a remarkable year to handle a full season plus finals given the wear and tear on an 18 - 19 year old. So give Bowey a go and then rotate Salem and Bedford and Tomlinson?

Too early for Rosman

Wouldn't mind Deakin Smyth, but that is a huge call as well

Maybe  a combination of players to rotate through. Melksham is certainly smart enough to play the role and his delivery into the forward line can be sublime. If he's done the work over some before pinging his string then give him a crack. I don't see him running up and down all day but he is crafty enough to adapt. If he brings last years attitude then he shouldn't be in the team. Let's hope it was just a case of hub cabin fever. I also hope the hamstring injury wasn't an sign that he can't manage the running load.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I like Fritsch in the role but acknowledge he is needed elsewhere. He can certainly spend time on the wing in a shared role. Bowey would also work. He has the skill level, smarts and a bit of speed but I think it's a lot to ask of a first year player. Laurie might also be an option and much later Rosman. Of our inside mids Jordon could spend time there. I think he has the tank and is better at getting to the outside of the contest than the others but he's a bit of a plodder.

My choice would be a combination of Bowey , Fritsch, and try Melksham with assistance from others.

Not keen on Baker (Casey), TMac (running ability only gets you so far and needed fwd) , Salem (needed elsewhere), Jones for the role.

Langdon and ANB would be fitter

Im not convinced Kozzie couldn't handle the wing

Wouldn't be less fit than Tomlinson, Jones, Harmes or Brayshaw

Are you familiar with how fitness works?

Its very rare for such an explosive speed athlete like Koz to have elite fitness. Even rarer for him to have it at 19 in his second year.

He is almost certainly less fit than all those players you’ve mentioned. Brayshaw the only query because he’s on the way back from injury.

It would be nice to have Kozzie’s burst speed on the wing but what we need is someone who can do repeat 100m sprints up and back at a high level. Apart from the occasional freakish draft pick that usually means someone with a lot of preseasons.

How about Bedford?  He has big tank and came high in time trials last year.  Extremely fast, not sure what his best position is currently as have not seen enough of him.  Probably deserves a chance if we are just going to roll through a heap of players in this position throughout the year.

What about, jackson and bowey to swap between wing and fp and max and jackson swap between ruck an fp

Max    75% ruck 25% fp

Jackson 25 % ruck 50 % fp 25 % wing

Bowey   75% wing  25% fp

anb came to the bench an awful lot considering he's such an "aerobic beast" like at least 6 mins a quarter

except bowey is training and required as a defender and can't use his elite ball and foot skills in the fp like he can coming out of D50

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
