Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Agreed the alternative appears worse than the current, McLachlan in particular regularly gets players wrong and Brayshaw's voice is one of the most annoying sounds on TV.

I think I'm in a minority here but I don't mind Basil Zempilas, I think he's a bit more of a "just call the game" commentator. I know there are ways to do it but I wish you could have the option on smart tv's to change the audio to be other radio stations.

McLachlan's terrible, just terrible.

Brayshaw is actually OK when he just focuses on calling the game, but he drifts off into bufoonery and "bloke-ness" too much (it's ingrained in him from his Triple M work).

I can't stand Basil, but that's in part due to some of his non-AFL-related behaviour.

If Adam Papalia from Fox was available to switch over, I'd be happy to hear more of him.

My apologies to Jason Bennett who I called Nathan Bennett in an earlier post (which I now can't edit to correct).

And on SWYL's point about the English style of commentary versus what he called the "invasive" style of Channel 7 (good description, by the way), like it or not, we're stuck with the current style. Why? Because Channel 7 has admitted they've tried both and found that overall, their audience prefers the "invasive" style of calling.

tks LDVC ... where did Ch7 admit invasive over complementary English style please?  most interesting.  To think 7 had Bruce n Den and they did talk a lot but gee it was complementary ... hope my words makes sense with Bruce n Den sort of being invasive with lots of words but most were golden.

The way they do the presentation/commentary side of English Premier League is at complete odds to what seven does with AFL. Seven goes for entertainment and energy, focusing on personalities and having banter between the commentators (at the disservice of the game being play).

The way they do commentary for football in the UK is simple, they have two commentators for the match (one former player for special tactical commentary) and one that calls the game (and doesn’t feel obliged to to fill every single second of the game). Pre-match, half-time, and post match is handled by the studio who focus on the game (with a little bit of getting to know the people of the game pre-match).

Seven’s coverage really is insufferable at times.

For Bruce his moment I will always remember him from is Cathy Freeman’s gold medal win. Iconic.

Like the way cricket was called by Ritchie ,He never seemed to have to talk constantly not like todays mob Warne and co reminding us how good they were

It was quite a long time ago, possiby 20-30 years ago or so. It wasn't long after the year the ABC had the sole rights because I can recall the discussion referred to the ABC style, which was more like the English soccer version.

McAvaney was a great footy commentator and is probably the best sports broadcaster we've ever had

His footy commentary was exemplary with regards to his knowledge of the game and the 'gushing' I always just saw as an amusing aside. Never bothered me

Even better with the Olympics and horse racing and Bruce will continue in those areas but will go out on top re the footy.  Kudos

I disagree. Now I found Kayo and the fox team, esp. Huddo,  I didn't realise how verbose McAvaney was. He would just never shut up.

Over on Fox they actually discuss the game mid play. You don't need someone telling us that so and so kicked the ball, and then XX  XX handballed. We have eyes.

7 commentary style treats the audience like children. I might be on to something.

I watch the game intently and tend to have the volume down and just tune in to the chatter whenever I feel the need.  For some the commentary plays a big part but for me it doesn't (I'm listening in a selective way)

So it depends on how you view the whole package.

For instance I can't stand Huddo because he screeches too much (which defeats the purpose of having the volume down)

McAvaney's knowledge is 2nd to none though (in my view) so that's what I listen to in a selective way

We're all different so it's ok to agree to disagree.  In the end, the game needs to entertain us

Sound off, radio on

Seven commentary all about either themselves or some useless side issue.

Hate the screeching, sycophantic dribble that is dished up with no relevance to the action occurring.

Bye Bruce

Is the radio sufficiently in sync with the TV pictures? If so, do you use analogue or digital radio?

LDC I’ve had no trouble synching up with Kayo and a selection of your preferred radio stations thru the AFL app.

Usually I have to pause live TV for about 10-15 secs to synch.

it’s a far better experience. I was driven to this mostly because of Bruce, it was becoming nauseating.

Thanks. To be honest, I didn't mind Bruce's commentary. I'm less enthusiastic about some of the other TV callers, though, but whether that's enough for me to go to the effort of synching radio with TV is questionable.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
