Fair? In comparison its quite a lofty expectation for someone who's assesses a player as good off the back of finishing 11th in the BNF 4 years ago lol

Kozzy is very talented but like all young players is no guarantee. He was very skittish last year particularly in front of goal but that’s not unusual for a first year player. With proper coaching and maturity no reason to think he won’t become more composed and start kicking those goals.

Not sure why the club is talking about him potentially playing round 1. Even if he has been training while away I can’t see how he is up to speed. Why take the chance? I’d prefer he is fully fit as playing half cooked risks damaging his confidence unnecessarily. Chandler looked decent in the praccy so why not let him play early. I think he has earned the right. We don’t need to be rushing kozzy back.

I know right.. he's embarrassing with some of his comments. Needs to kick 25 goals this year to justify his place in the team but the bloke who's a plodder that finishes 13th in the best and fairest in his 4th year of AFL football gets a pass mark.

Typical @Dr.D style though. Even if Picketts kicks 50 goals this year he won't admit it. It'll hurt him too much to admit how wrong he already is.

Pickett will be a star.  I expect him to kick 25-30 goals this season because he is good enough to, thats for sure.

He was doing some pretty awesome thinsg last year without the ball in his hand so goals wont be the deciding factor to him having a nice season

DrD  I actually are reading form from our match vs Tigers. There was a distinct difference in our game plan and aggression as I indicated above. And Gale and Balme astute observers noticed also our much quicker and slick movement of the ball.

That was of OUR doing nothing to do with how the Tigers played. 
 

Regarding  players to return Jetta won't make it as he is too slow Melky is only a 50/50 chance of that for Round1 ( I wouldnt entertain him On form let alone fitness after 2  underwhelming years).

Both Viney snd Brayshaw  are When playing well fast enough with our game plan and BBB is a fast on a lead.

Whst about Hibbo is he too slow ?

Thsts a very good reason why Kossie will be selected in any case.

BTW about 15/20 goals will be a good reward if Kossie plays all season!

PS How many goals has ANB kicked in his career vs games??

if you actually read the thread Pickett2Jackson used the word 'fair'. He said it was a fair expectation. And I agree. You don't? What do you think is a fair expectation goals wise? I also never said anything about Picketts place in the team. If I did, show me? That never happened. I actually said that I'd put him in the team. So I guess you have some comprehension issues.

ANB is a mid, not a forward. i.e.the whole point of my posts. lol.

But to answer your question ANB averages more goals per game than Pickett despite playing 2 seasons playing mostly midfield.

When will you admit ANB has basically failed and is not out of position. You are inventing your own Opinion to suit your argument.  You haven't give the figures of ANB and comparing one's first season only is not fair anyway.

Most Dees fans don't agree with you and he won't be an on baller and will be lucky to play 7/10 games this year.

I don't care about what most fans say. most fans said we would rue the day when jack watts left to Port Adelaide. Many fans including many on demonland also sang the praises of Bate, Strauss, Toumpas, Blease, Marric, Morton, Watts, Grimes, Gysberts etc. so I only expect fans to be biased towards our own players. Many fans also backed in Oscar McDonald year in year out. Fans also expected us to be top 4 the last 2 seasons. The list goes on and on and my record speaks for itself. 

In terms of young talent on our list I rate them as the following (from left to right):

Bowey, Jackson, Laurie, Rivers, Petty, Pickett, Sparrow, Jordan, Bedford, Rosman.

I believe they were 2015 and 2016 whilst playing for Casey in the VFL. 

Certainly at AFL level he hasn't. 

I think ANB is a better player than most think he is .... but Dr D is clearly wrong about him (among others). His value is as a hard running defensive forward, not as a midfielder because he isn't big enough, quick enough, classy enough or good enough. If he could solve 2 or 3 of those problems then he can play midfield. But full credit to him for pushing past all those failings and getting a satisfactory AFL career almost entirely from hard running and a first class attitude. He should be lauded for what he has been able to do.

i thought his goal kicking improved dramatically towards the end of last year.

Fair point about the impact of missing a chunk of preseason but the fact the club is talking about him playing round one points to how critical he is to our fortunes.

Of course it would great if he snagged more goals. The goals will come but ATM they are a bonus.

His two key performance indicators are inside 50 tackles and pressure acts. No other player in our team comes close to the pressure he applies in our forward half. Which is an indictment really, but there it is.

Forward half pressure is one of the most important elements of modern footy. Obviously if you can't trap the ball inside 50 you miss opportunities to score, but really the big issue is allowing the ball to be moved out of the forward 50 under little pressure.

Lack of pressure not only creates an opportunity for the for the switch and/or easy transition, lack of pressure on the ball carrier means that the clearing kick, the chip kick to a free defender and even a handball, is more likely to hit a target. 

And it is an area we have been very poor in since 2018. Think of how often the ball has just bounced out of our 50 and pinged down the other end of the ground. This as feature in all of our really bad losses last season. 

And think of Richmond.  Forward half pressure is key to their success.

Forward pressure is needed binman but surely a small forward has to kick goals. Now we are not talking 50 a season although that be great but he needs to trouble the back men more by hitting the scoreboard regularly. 25 in his second season would be great. I also think not being able to play at Casey hurt his development last season. Along with others it was in the seniors or nothing .

I agree with everything you said. I just don't want to spend a first round pick on a defensive forward. I hope the goals come and the accuracy improves significantly.

Fair points regarding forward 50 pressure and tackles.

If he’s fully fit then he’s best 22, no question.

I trust the coaching staff to do the right thing but I just don’t like playing youngsters who are underdone. Playing badly as a result could impact his confidence. He’s a potential 200+ gamer. Let’s make sure we manage him properly.

Perhaps I did not explain it well. I am saying none are certainties as they have had interrupted pre seasons and at this point none have yet played a quarter of a game. They need to be up speed or they should not be selected.
