Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

What has Petty, Hunt, Chandler, T. Mac, Jones shown to be best 22?

For me if all fit (which will never be the case)

FB: Lockhart, May, Lever

HB: Salem, Hibberd, Rivers

C: Langdon, Oliver, Sparrow/Laurie

HF: Melksham, Weideman, Fritsch

FF: Spargo, Brown, Pickett

FOL: Gawn, Petracca, Viney

INT: Brayshaw, Jackson, Harmes, Tomlinson

Should learn the lesson about stacking tall slow players into a 22. Laurie a kid offers both pace and skill and Sparrow is worth a game more than Jones for me.

Bowey in for Lockhart

Pickett must play. Tomlinson won't get dropped for Petty ATS. Probably 1 tall forward too much.

B: HUNT, MAY, LEVER

HB: SALEM, TOMLINSON, RIVERS

C: LANGDON, PETRACCA, BAKER

HF: PICKETT, MCDONALD, CHANDLER

F: FRITSCH, B.BROWN, SPARGO

FOLL: GAWN, OLIVER, VINEY

IC: JACKSON, SPARROW, JONES, BOWEY

EMERG: JORDON

McDonald will grab his chance with both hands forcing Weideman to bide his time.

Brayshaw forced to find form due to the emergence of Jordon and Sparrow.

Lets try and get Jones to 300 games.

Jones can get to 300 Werridee but he must earn his spot. If others in his position are performing better then naturally he sits out at Casey until he knocks the door down. I hope he gets there but we can't gift it to him

No he mustn't.  He hasn't trained for a month and is still in S.A from all reports.

Chandler and Spargo are ahead of him.

P2J how do you know whether Kossie has trained or not yet in SA?

I am not necessarily disagreeing with you but you just can't make open statements without proof.

You should be saying most  likely hasn't done a respectable enough block Of training required for a spot in the Round1 team.
The other variant in this situation is the form of Spargs and  Chandler. Any other AFL team to be selected in the last 2 years might have screamed for Kossie's inclusion but even our most churlish D/Lers would not want a well earnt spot by either player appear not so.

Waiting  like all Others fir your chance no matter how heartfelt the circumstances will not harm Kossie st this stage.

As it happens we are small forwards/ wing/ half back or BP smothered at the moment with Bowey Laurie Bedford and even Locky in the wings waiting for that Round1 opportunity also.

Unless of course you know more than us or you are just blindly posting an opinion piece to back up your wishes.

Melksham’s an option but his lack of tackling makes him more of a midfielder. Vanders has only ever been a midfielder. Jones and ANB can’t mark. Harmes can rotate in to that role.

Theres a spot on the list for a guy who’s 183-188 and can kick a goal, half an aerial contest and ideally has decent pressure. After Fritsch we have no back up, it would be nice to have someone even if they are at Casey.

How about we give Joel Smith a go???He is a bit taller I think but that doesn't matter.

Yeah I am sure he is training back in S.A, but hes been away from the team for a month and may not play the next practice game.

Not sure what you mean by my wishes....  ideally I would have all three of Pickett, Spargo and Chandler in vs Freo.

Hes doing his own training and also training with a SANFL club. But he's way off AFL training fitness and will need a couple of weeks to get up to standard. He's been away from the club for over a month now.

His mums funeral is not until the 5th of March which is a Friday. First game is not until the 20th. He won't be ready for round 1.

Chandler and Spargo are ahead of him as it stands and rightly so.

Yep, I think Richo said on SEN that they were doing a program for him.

1. A best 22 is a bit pointless given there will always be injuries and out of form players. A round 1 team is more realistic.

2. There’s no way we have both Jacko and Tom on the bench. Take out one of the key forwards for Pickett or Spargo, a team needs more than 1 small forward. I’m a Chandler fan but both of those guys are ahead of him still as well

3. If Hunt’s the 7th defender then you need a wing, otherwise you need a 7th defender. Harmes or Baker for Jones to start on the wing

Previous attempts to play Jones on the wing have failed He is a liability there

If he cant make half forward his own then is position is unfortunately LRO

Cost us two goals yesterday with poor panicked disposal

No place here for sentiment

Don't know why people think Picket should be a walkup start on last year's form, as my recollection was he more often than not late to the party (chasing players rather than tackling them, or being just that little bit late to the fall of the ball).

This though could easily be resolved by natural maturity and experience.

That's  my point P2J You said he hasn't trained and also that he shouldn't play BUT have changed your opinion and admit he has done some lone training plus SANFL.

And Now admit you would want him in as a third string to our small forward  bow vs Freo in Round1.

At this stage I don't mind if Kossie does play but Viney Brayshaw Petty Hibberd and Melksham would appear to be short of real match practice so guess we really need to ensure we will have a pretty full list to play out a tough four quarters.

If Kossie plays do you consider all of those players or are some fitter than others. Kossie hasn't been injured at least and is the fastest in our side I reckon. But  as you said Spargs  and Chandler are ahead of Kossie ( in fitness and exposed form ) and on balance deserve to be selected in Round1.

Interesting Selection Dilemmas!!

Not such a bad position to be in with many options which makes our AAMI Match  vs Bulldogs VIP.

I agree it's very unlikely Kozzie will be ready for Rd 1

We need to consider his state of mind as well. He's a young man who has just lost his mother.Being around family definitely helps with the bereavement process. We don't know how he'll feel or react leaving his family and coming back to Melbourne. He may not be mentally ready to return never mind physically.

Deserves 6 games, more than any other current demon and will get them barring injury, as we have several injured players who have opened spots up for the first few games.

However, he looked really slow on Friday, like the end of last season and his turnovers were very costly. His reaction has obviously slowed with age and in lightning fast modern footy, it can be a game killer.

I look forward to him breaking the banner in his 300th, but think he will struggle if we have a pretty full list to add to that total.

He has been a champion of the club in difficult times and his loyalty will see him remembered as a great of the club. Well done NJ. Hopefully there is a bit more left in the tank.

I'm yet to watch the full replay but at this stage my interest lies more in how we set up and tried to defend and attack than the result (which of course is pleasing).

Seeing TMac show some form is mightily encouraging. I like the idea of Gawn dropping forward rather than back, but we're going to find it harder to do that in games where May and Lever aren't able to dominate, or the opposition is able to work through our zone better.

Gawn was dropping back to fill holes as well as pushing forward

they've ruined any chance they had in creating a good footballer out of him by swapping his ends every preseason and then not even playing him where he trained come season proper. poor player management really

i think everyone is overstating the match fitness importance of players. they've just done a full preseason and guys like brayshaw are in full training already i expect he and pickett will be in from the start. haven't heard much on where viney is at but if he's training he's playing same with melky form allowing

Melksham and Brayshaw's injuries and Pickett being away have opened up a chance for Jones but so far it's just a chance. The one thing I find hard to rate with Jones is that his disposal can be shaky but he does still find the ball. We've had guys at half forward go quarters on end without touching it. Obviously can't turn it over if you don't have it to begin with.

I really hope he's truly on board with the possibility of missing 300 and his desire is to see the team succeed. The team having success and Jones sacrificing a milestone to ensure that would really enhance his legacy more than 300 IMO. To stay loyal through the dark years, captain the club and then put the club first at the end would be a career fans would remember for a long time.

Yet, in the final quarter he was in no small part, responsible for us being able to get up over the Tigers, when it was looking like they could overrun us.

Missing an entire year and several other stints with injury when he was late to the elite pathway was probably the biggest killer, but with super athletic guys it can all come together. Frosty really took years to find it then it clicked for him. Stef Martin similar. Odds aren't looking good especially as he's had another niggle and missed the practice game but Smith could go from bad to good in a hurry if he can just get continuity of games at a decent standard (VFL then AFL).

Brayshaw didn't do a lot of the preseason though, so even though he's in full training now he has to still be behind, I hope they hold him back. Melksham's done plenty and just had a niggle, but as you said it's form that he needs to show to get his place. Viney did a lot too so he should be a solid chance but it's more his role that should be adapted. I doubt they'll even predict too much with Pickett until he's back, I'd say 50/50 right now but if he's physically and mentally healthy I'd give him the benefit of the doubt.

100% agree. I found Pickett underwhelming last year. Falls over for no reason and puts himself out of the contest. 7 goals in 14 games simply isn't enough in anyones language.  He was also wasteful in front of goals.

He’s copped some criticism for his disposal, but I was very happy to see Harmes tagging Cotchin and Martin yesterday.  His best football is when he is tagging and his best football is very, very good.  Hopefully he’s persisted with and can regain some confidence and form.

You would bloody hope he is persisted with in that position considering Goody played him OUT of position all last season which lead to his drop in form and being dropped from the team.

Another stupid decision by Goody. Let’s hope he has learned his lesson.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
