Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Exactly DC I had the same discussion with a Bombers member on BF. I can understand both sides - you pay more for a premium membership you expect to get first dibs. But also if the lower tier members have no chance of attending good luck getting them to sign up or if they have stopping then from claiming a refund. Two years in a row might be a bit much for some at the moment.

And then there are the ones like me who will keep buying no matter what. Did not go last year and big chance I won't this year. I think MFC members are fairly tough or they would not still be members.

Agreed but it's not just MFC members od. How many members across Vic/the comp may drop off impacting all clubs/AFL finances. Think of clubs like Saints, Dogs, North based out of Docklands. If they can only get 15k or 20k supporters in their memberships could drop dramatically.

Already it has been stated that priority will be given to HOME members in matches Obviously to ensure that Clubs  have best chance of selling memberships.

The supporters of bigger Clubs  might struggle with smaller games but all Clubs could in some blockbuster games if 50% capacity is retained more than say Round 5/6.

Melb would want our blockbusters vs Tigers Pies Bombers   (away) Cats Saints to be as full a capacity as possible so that maximum revenue can be obtained.

BTW Old Dee Your statement that you didn't go last year is not news as NO ONE in Victoria saw any games live in 2020 due to Covid.

I was very lucky being in Brisbane saw about 15/17 games inc. Gabba and Metricon inc. all the Melb games plus some others.

Supporters  just have to get adjusted to applying for each match tickets ( which are Covid tracing friendly) even if they are members have reserved seats or are away general admission.

It's  easy after a couple of tries.!

Visited Tassie on a $40 flight Moorabbin to Launceston in a Cessna once. Arrived at the airfield which was over 20 km from town. Most of the savings got used up a in a taxi trip! But the silver lining was the strictly old school driver when asked about a place to stay, dropped your correspondent off at a classic old pub in the centre of town. Upstairs were rather rustic rooms with high ceilings and large windows with sashes and weights overlooking the main street below. Bathroom and toilets were communal of course. As was the TV lounge, with some comfy old club lounge chairs to sit in. There was plenty of company in there too, luckily more akin to Alice’s Restaurant than Deliverance! So if jumping in the time machine appeals to you and Mrs DW perhaps an establishment like the Batman Fawkner Inn may cater to your viewing needs.

If the cap is at 50k then it’s likely they’ll be room for everyone in round 1 but the issue is if it’s broken down in to set divisions people might have to change categories to get in.

There could be more than 11k MCC members at a Melbourne game, but not the full quota of regular MFC members, AFL members or Freo members.

Each game might need waves of ticket releases to give people more chances to go.

How do you change categories unless you have a MCC/MFC double up??

I’m pretty sure it was the NSW Premier being interviewed before the SCG test match versus India a few months ago. She was being asked to justify the expected crowd numbers whilst other restrictions were still in place around the state. She went on to say that they had protocols in place to ensure social distancing. Then a reporter asked what happens when multiple patrons touch the same turnstile, the same handrail, the same door, the same tap.
If Melbourne can get back to no cases for the month leading into rd one then open it back up to full capacity and let’s get on with it.

Good point we must live outside of footy for a balanced life. Beautiful spot.

Maybe a trip to Tamar Valley and a picnic at one if the wineries During the day.or a picnic at the Gorge and if possible a boat ride.

From  memory the WaterWheel complex is Up market with a fab Restaurant yo boot.
Bizaarely there is a ghost tour of Launceston ( at least in 2010 there was,) for something really different

When in doubt ask a Local!

Enjoy DW and Mrs DW.

That's been going on well before Covid and it is very hard to not get involved.

I agee but I’m just highlighting the stupidity of it all, for me it’s all or nothing. Today Gladys (who with the exception of the Ruby Princess disaster) has done a good job) has announced up to two hundred people are allowed at weddings but only thirty can be on the dance floor. It’s just stupid....

And today this from the club....

“Join one of our premium match day experiences + guarantee your spot at the MCG when footy returns to the MCG”

That was followed by two comments, both from members, one along the lines off “how about looking after the faithful that have stuck by this club first”.

I did screenshot it at the time because FB has a history of when I go out and come back in everything is shuffled around, but I couldn’t find it even by going to the clubs page, so maybe it was an add.

The club clearly is more interested in targeting its wealthier members to make more money. I’m still waiting for my correct membership card to arrive, I’ve already rang up once and will be ringing up again today.

Who says we are playing at the MCG in round 1. Just wait for McGowan to stuff things up and the AFL and Melbourne being to weak to even deliver a parting shot. It should be a case of come here and play or melbourne gets the 4 points.

All Clubs would probably have the same membership targets. We wouldn't be alone here.

I spoke to membership today.

I am an 11 year consecutive gold member & I was told you need to register on a monday/tuesday and the system will work as follows.

Gold Members are Priority 1. will get first access at say 9-11am. Then Silver get access from 11-1pm and then bronze and so on.

Apparently if you miss you slot you can try in the next one but you fall into that bracket etc.

wonder if this will be the same for AFL members. I'm a Gold member so anticipate I won't have an issue getting into any home games given you could probably count the amount of Melbourne supporting AFL Gold members on 2 hands.

From the info on BigFooty it sounds like AFL members will be all in, no priority for gold members or even members of the competing sides. Pretty crap if that's the situation

Yeah I called the AFL membership department and they certainly gave the impression that it’s all in, and that if you want priority to see your team, get a club membership.

Kind of makes you wonder why they ask you to nominate a team in the first place.

In the Anzac eve and QBday games I hope it’s first in first served rather than a ballot where you have no idea if it’s rigged.

They're the two games I'm worried about due to the number of Tigers/Pies supporters who have AFL memberships. As well as the neutrals who may want to go.

I reckon they're gonna stuff themselves here, people will be purchasing tickets and have them up on eBay within minutes for the big games particularly Anzac Day and other big drawing games.

I spoke with Membership today.

There is a staff meeting on Monday, where the ticketing arrangements will be explained, with hopefully all the nuances which will arise.

Then there will be a general email to members to explain what is required.

In a nutshell, it will be something similar to what was done at the cricket.  You will need to get another ticket for an allocated seat.  If you want to sit with your mates, then make sure you have their barcodes from their membership ready to go on the one application.

This won't be perfect, but it will be better than last year, and if various governments get their act together, should improve as the season progresses.

I received an email on Friday saying as above George, it said more info Monday. I was out with some Richmond die hards yesterday and they have all applied for tickets ballot already. I guess most of their members won't get in so they are on the job early.

heard on the ABC that Richmond are expecting an allocation of around 25k for their opening round match. Carlton maybe 5k and the rest for corporates MCC and AFL members.

Given that tickets are free I think they can expect a few no shows as well.

Going to be a difficult season attendance wise

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
