Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I reckon Bowey could well line up in our defensive 7 in the early rounds.  we need speed, kicking skills and decision making and he seems to have those

But shirley Hunt plays fwd. especially with Melk and others injured

Hunt is playing half back

I feel for the umpires. How can they be expected to intepret two contradictory statements? How does "minimal lateral movement" not contradict the next line which (in effect) says a defending player moving off the mark in any direction will lead to a 50-metre penalty?

strictly speaking "mimimal" would have to be the smallest possible observable measurement

scratch your ear and bang, 50m

oh and does jumping up in the air count as "moving in any direction"

I haven't heard anything from the club but every year when games roll around the training schedule changes. I'm just trying to look out for ppl who want to drive out to Casey.

So that was a yes, you're guessing and that's not helpful and in fact leads you to being ridiculed when you get it wrong. I'm just trying to look after you so you don't have to suffer the ire of the community here.

Well maybe you should understand the rule that would be a start before you post and have pot shots,

I. The subject was being discussed in the thread.

2. You are allowed to move on the mark Jumping up and down is allowed you cannot encroach or move sideways or any other movement.

AFL website gee maybe they have not spoken to you that's being nice.

The Commission has accepted the following game adjustments ahead of the 2021 Toyota AFL Premiership Season:

1 / A maximum of 75 total player interchanges per match
Rotations will decrease from 90 per match in 2020 to 75 per match in 2021. Each team will continue to be permitted four interchange players.

2 / Player Standing The Mark
The defending Player will only be permitted minimal lateral movement on The Mark. If the defending player moves off The Mark in any direction prior to "Play On" being called, a 50-metre penalty will apply. The defensive team is unable to substitute the Player on The Mark.

3 / Location of The Mark at Kick Ins
The Mark shall be set at 15 metres from the centre of the Kick-Off Line towards the centre of the ground at Kick Ins. This was previously set at 10 metres.

I feel suitably chastised. I was feeling particularly pithy at the time. It was good of you to weigh in and pull me up.

With regard to the Standing the Mark quote; it says "only permitted minimal lateral movement on the Mark" can you confirm that that's what the new rule actually says, as opposed to the media release?

This is a big call! What have trackwatchers seen that justifies this?

Just playing devil's advocate, he was drafted on virtually no exposed TAC Cup form although he apparently did well in pre-season practice matches leading up to the cancelled competition.

What we know is he is an amazing athlete, that he is decent overhead and has an awkward kicking action. What other traits make him a round one starter?

I sometimes wonder if fans forget how difficult it is for anyone, let alone teenagers, to make that transition from underage football to the big time...

Much the same position Clayton was in. eh!

"minimal lateral movement"  I'm not sure the "Rule" says this at all. Demon3165 has quoted this from a news item apparently on the AFL website I've asked if he can verify that's actually the rule but haven't received a reply yet.

We could also go back to the start of this thread where JnrMac stated;

"The AFL has warned in briefings to clubs that even the slightest movement to the left or right from the man on the mark will incur an immediate 50m penalty".

I hesitate to call it "fake news" because I don't want to be ridiculed again but there is a chance it is as said.

Ah, no!

Clayton Oliver won a Morrish Medal!

Redman  played two pretty ordinary TAC Cup games at the end of 2019.

For a:start I am surmising Fraser put on about 10 kg and grew 5 cm in height last year and is now got a mans physique and Confidence to go with it. It doesn't  matter what he did in 2019  It what he does now on the track and I the practice games.

If ever a recruit looked Ready  to Play ( and is showing it in attitude and method)  he is the one. Remember who are you going to select on the opposite wing to Langers??

Sticks out like a beacon so far this pre season I suggest.

BTW  Chico has torn up or allegedly burnt our 3 n ew recruits Birth Certs. That's how important age and experience are to him With  our 2020 draftees!!!

Are you suggesting Gary is coming up with these rule ideas and advising his brother Steve at AFL house?  Buddha was Whiskers temporarily in 1999.

We know the answer to this. What we don't know is whether this rule change will fix it. The AFL has been quite clear that it is concerned with the low level of scoring in games. Whether that concern is for the aesthetic of the product or because fewer goals means fewer advertisments on TV (leading to less valuable TV rights) is less clear.

Last time I checked our list isn't performing that well - if the newbies are good enough, fit enough and hungrier for success then I'm all for replacing some of those who seem comfortable with going through the motions

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
