Boys, use a VPN to locate your net address outside Aus, then take an international membership at MFC which gives you access to the WatchAFL app at a minor discount and you get every game, plus Fox Footy shows, no ads during play and all the sauce....

Not bad. Or just split a kayo sub 2 or 3 ways with mates

I'm going to miss the really small screen.

I have Kayo. Delighted with it. Good selection, repeats, fast forward through ads. Can’t believe I used to pay $60 a month (I think it was) for a Foxtel sub

an hour of slobbo four days a week? cancel my subscription!

Not sure why I did not think of that I already do that with Netflix and Disney+ with my daughter.

I wouldn't mind paying on a pay per view basis, but I do object to paying a large fee to sign up to 'plans' where I am paying for stuff I have no interest in.  I have zero interest in any sport other than AFL.  But Kayo has me effectively helping pay for loads of sports and guff which I don't want. Ditto for Foxtel.   It's like going to the supermarket wanting to buy just a can of beans but being forced to buy all the canned food in the supermarket, none of which I eat.

I may be unusual in following only one sport, but I suspect a lot of people are interested in only a small handful of sports but are forced to pay for dozens, including farnarkeling.  (Actually I would pay for that.)

I am not sure this Kayo app can be watched on full screenTV’s. May be only for mobile devices.

It can be watched on full screen tv.  You either need an android tv or chrome cast

I believe the new national Women’s Farnarkeling League matches will be televised by SBS this year!

I'm exactly the same.

I hate supporting Murdoch as well.

3 years in a row I've threatened to cancel my foxtel sub and then they drop the cost and I stick with it.

Who likes paying but Kayo at $15/25per month (easily cancelled when the season is over) is a vast improvement on around $90 a month for Foxtel.

The problem for kayo is that Foxtel used sport as a loss leader. The new management is trying not to use this practice so how it meets the ongoing demands of individual sports in the future is the big question.

For example it would not surprise me if F1 is lost to kayo in the next few years.

At least if you get a kayo account for $5 per month you can watch it on full screen TV.

Now if only we could get rid of the Channel 7 commentary

Mate! Its not that hard anymore to sync up digital radio with a broadcast!

Because DAB is further behind the live stream of KAYO!

FYI you get two simultaneous users for $25 per month or three simultaneous users for $35 per month

You need an internet speed that provides a solid 15 Mbs ( a little more than Netflix as it is not buffered like Netflix)

Generally watch kayo on 30 minute delay as it allows one to avoid the ads and fast forward through the quarter breaks

TBH I turn most games off around 3/4 time unless they are interesting

Yep. Do this with my brother who lives up at Yackandandah. AFL, Rugby Union, Formula 1, and Death Diving among other things.

The more money tv give to sport the less people actually watch that sport, ever since cricket was taken off free to air tv in the UK less and less people now watch cricket in England. It's actually a trap for sport, they lose viewers for more money, and in the long run they lose money.

The problem is exacerbated by FTA really only being interested in the major teams. For AFL, that means endless matches involving Collingwood, Carlton, Richmond, Hawthorn and Geelong and barely any games involving North, St Kilda, Melbourne and the Bullies. It's a self-defeating model but because the FTA networks have short-term interests (ie, ad revenue) the long-term interest of the competition gets damaged.

so much for a national comp. Many Melbourne based AFL supporters go through the whole season seeing an interstate team once or twice at most.

TBH there are simply too many Melbourne based teams. There's no city in the world that has ten local teams in a national comp that I can think of. London has around 5 or 6 in the EPL and it's catchment area is maybe 2 or 3 times the population of Melbourne.

It will never change DJ. The AFL tried to amalgamate teams remember that exercise ? The only thing that might change is a team might move interstate. The problems is moving or amalgamating result in a large number of the former members / supporters drop off the game completely. If the MFC disappeared I would have little if any interest in Aussie rules at senior level.

Yes they are a pack of maggots who stole the game and the stupid AFL is complicit in it.

170 years  of goodwill ,human endeavour personal injuries, blood ,sweat and tears vacuumed up into the Murdoch hole.

Centralise power in the hands of a few Coke heads and this is what happens.

The AFL App on Telstra will be integrated with Rupert Murdoch’s Kayo sports app and AFL App users on Telstra will now pay for the Kayo app. This means all other sports now on Kayo including NRL will be included. Some will be happy and others including me will not welcome the bloatware of sports I’m not interested in and having to pay for it. Telstra customers will only pay $5 a month at least for the first year. Then likely they will like be slugged up to the full $25 a month for the Kayo App. It is unclear how this affects AFL App users on other carriers.

...and the AFL promised it would always be free, lying bunch of a'holes. So now we're paying a bloody foreigner to watch a homegrown Sport. How unfunny is that?

I pay for Kayo. I literally start my subscription on the day the regular season starts, and cancel it to end after the Grand Final. That way I end up paying for maybe 7 months of service, I never have to worry about missing out on seeing a game in the current environment where schedules and access are changing, and if I want to watch some Fox footy shows I can. It helped keep me sane in 2020. I also can cast it to any TV if I’m travelling.

I hate watching games on the phone. It’s hard to swear at the umpire and hold the phone at the same time.

I do the same but drop mine one month earlier as all the finals are on channel 7.

We bought a "Telstra TV" box on gumtree for $50 (don't need to be with Telstra to use it) and watch the games on kayo in hd on it. Have done this for the last 2 years and it's great

I knew this was coming. No more live games streamed on the AFL app. Only good for replays live scores and stats now. I’m not buying into that dog Murdoch’s Kayo. It can go to buggery. Next for the chop is FTA.

ADC I understand you don't like Murdock but if you bid up the price to the Max then you eventually reach nothing left to give to the media. That is where the AFL is at, the last chip is the live broadcast app. Major sport sold its soul a while back. You want to watch AFL  pay either by going to games or pay to watch it via the media.

    CANCEL CULTURE by Whispering Jack

I’m not one who likes mixing politics with sport but it should be noted there have been some unusual trends in the world of sport lately. In the US, Major League Baseball announced that it’s moving the 2021 All-Star Game and the 2021 MLB Draft out of Georgia, in response to the state’s new voting law. Over here, there’s a move to force Carlton to change its club song because the original song on which it was based (written in the late 1800s) has “racist connotations”. The Blues maintain the curr

MOGGIES MASTERED by George on the Outer

They say that herding cats is an impossible task but not for the Melbourne Demons who through relentless pressure, scored a commanding 25 point victory in Round 4 over Geelong at the MCG. The team that missed the AFL finals only once in the past dozen years were shown up by the new Demons of 2021 who have recorded their first 4-0 opening to the season in 21 years! Melbourne knew what was coming, and it was Geelong who were shown up for their inability to adapt to the 2021 style of foot

UNDER MY SKIN by The Oracle

The story goes that there’s a certain player from Geelong who has been seen in Moorabool Street crooning the old Sinatra classic, “I’ve got you under my skin.” His name is O’Connor and he’s been tasked to achieve one thing on Sunday by his coach, Chris Scott: to get under the skin of a Demon midfielder on Sunday and thereby tag him out of the big contest at the G. The idea behind the tactic is to not only blunt one of the team’s most destructive weapons but to distract them all from producing th

    MAX IN SPACE

Demon skipper Max Gawn is one big unit at 208cm and lately he’s been standing even taller. We already know that he’s unstoppable in the air when going for a mark but with three consecutive victories to open the season, you might say that he has his head in the clouds.  And that is literally true thanks to a fan at Demonland.com who recently arranged for our big ruckman to go even further than the clouds but way beyond to the edge of space and into the stratosphere. CAPITAL PUNISHMENT by George on the Outer

A 34-point win in the nation’s capital has seen the Demons kill the Giants hopes early in the 2021 season. It wasn’t only the scoreboard, but a succession of injuries to major players for GWS that has put paid to their aspirations. The winning result wasn’t just due to the opposition losing players, but also to the relentless pressure from this 2021 Melbourne side that put them in the winners circle. In past years, a 16 point deficit at the first change combined with a rampant Toby Greene w

POWER AND THE PASSION by Whispering Jack

The Demons ran out for their Qualifying Final match against the Fremantle Dockers at Casey Fields as the sounds of Midnight Oils’ “Power and the Passion cascaded over the mainly friendly pro-Melbourne crowd. It was a far cry from the season opener at Carrara in late January where few of their fans were in attendance in high 20’s heat and humidity and silence greeted every score from the slow-starting Demons. They ran away from the lowly Suns, won comfortably in the end and followed that with ano

    BREAK OUT by Whispering Jack

Despite the chaotic events occurring in Canberra over the past few weeks, one thing is for certain. This weekend’s game at Manuka Oval in the nation’s capital between the GWS Giants and Melbourne will decide which of Scott Morrison or Leon Cameron is the most under the pump at this point in time.  This time twelve months ago, the Giants were coming off a season in which they had played off in a grand final. They opened up their 2020 campaign with a resounding 32-point victory in round 1 aga

MARVELOUS PRESSURE by George on the Outer

Is this a new form of Melbourne which has suddenly emerged in 2021?  In the past, whenever the pressure was applied, the team would falter early and as a consequence, it would more often than not, be forced to confront its own self-inflicted failure. But perhaps not so this year. The match at Marvel Stadium against the Saints provided an insight into how creating pressure, actually relieves it on the club, players and coach. Right from the start, Melbourne was there to make a stat

Throughout the off season, St Kilda was touted as an improver and a possible challenger for a top four position mainly off the back of another good trade and draft period at the end of last year. Then in Round 1, the undermanned Saints made a shaky start and almost succumbed to the Giants but they managed to come home from a wet and woolly Sydney with the four points intact. After what seemed like an eternity without Footy in Melbourne, the Demons and their fans produced a scrappy, sloppy yet successful return to the MCG. Yet is was against an interstate team from the furthest reaches of the country, but the 21K fans who made it through the gates, was way below expectations for numbers.  Sure it can’t have helped with all the difficulty that Ticketek imposed just to get a ticket, and since you just couldn’t walk up, perhaps the number wasn’t that surprising.

    UNFINISHED BUSINESS by Whispering Jack

The Melbourne Football Club has unfinished business with Fremantle after that unexpected loss in their previous clash at Cazaly’s Stadium in Cairns cost it a place in last year’s finals campaign.   Back then, the tired Demons spluttered listlessly through the humid conditions in tropical far North Queensland playing in and losing two games in the space of four days and against two lowly clubs. PRACTICE PUMMELLING by George on the Outer

Was this a practice for what lay ahead for the Demons in 2021 or was it an outcome to expect because it was used as a true practice game? Those of us on the outside will never know, but a 39 point loss to the Western Bulldogs was a pummelling in anyone’s language. We can draw some consolation from the players that Melbourne put on the field, with Toby Bedford, Jake Bowey, Kade Chandler, James Jordon and Tom Sparrow each getting a guernsey whereas they probably would not normally be in the f
