Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The amount of discarded stuff I've resurrected over the years would astound you. I recently saved two wall heaters ($450ea when new), both are in excellent condition and manufactured in 2015. They were missing mounting brackets which cost me $40. They are now installed in a unit I own. The point is; discards can be fixed if you have the nous and the will.

Good call and last comment.  With the coaching panel improvements (Yze), Burgess, Richardson we are(should be) streets ahead of the Kangas in player development and nuturing given their post season upheavals

I have faith the Daw thing could work for the team as well as anywhere.

Up to him also largely. But worth the shot.

Bradke ?? Is he still with us? Must have the slowest development rate in the AFL history.

Has anybody seen this guy recently?

He'd want to show something this year at Casey Bradtke, otherwise it might be curtains for the lad.

A bit of perspective Kent:

  • Bradtke came to MFC from a basketball background, not AFL
  • He missed out on a whole year of development in his second year with covid
  • He's something like 206cm FFS
  • Gawn didn't play a game until his third year (3 games). He didn't play a decent game until his 6th year

i'd say he's almost a certainty to finish his 3rd Cat B rookie this year with a promotion to the senior list, u dont put that much time in for no reason and he's one of only 2 recognised ruckmen on our list. i'd even go as far as suggesting it'll be a 2yr deal.

If he is fit and ready to play to his best then low risk option IMO and good insurance given our current injuries

We do have a history of recruiting players from other teams who are unable to get themselves on the park - is he good to go ?

Surprised when I compared his career stats to the Weid

Drafted in same year
Played more games
Averaged more kicks
More tackles
More hitouts
More contested possessions
Same disposal efficiency

Are we talking about Majak Daw when comparing Weideman.

Pretty sure Daw was drafted 5 years earlier.

According to Footywire they were both drafted in 2015 - Weid in National draft, Daw in Rookie draft

Majak isn’t weathered, he’s still learning the caper. Personally if he dropped a few kgs I think he’d be able to get to a few more fwd contests and clunk a couple more marks.

I recall a story that Daw was banned from doing upper body weights at North, and still looks like that. I know what that’s like...

Point being I’m not sure if he can drop weight and be more mobile.

Ok here we go champ

Marks per game
Daw 3.6 vs 3.5
Goals per game
Daw 0.8 vs 1.0
One percenters per game
Daw 3.2 vs 1.3

I wasn't necessarily saying he was an ideal replacement for Weid but he could fill a need now that Weid has found another way of going MIA.

I know there is a lot of love for the Weid but if you look at facts he has yet to prove he is anything like a consistent or significant contributor to team success

I am not being critical of Sam and hope like everyone he reaches his full "potential" which he hasn't gone close to - yet !

i agree re weid's potential and i think it was naive of us to trade Hogan when we did and expose weid after 2 good games and we've paid the price for that by not having a functioning forward line whatsoever for the last two years. i think daw is a good addition to the list and i expect he will see some senior action early in the season when tmac fails to impact

All good and well to say that clubs can sign players ahead etc. But at the end of the day, the player gets the last say and it would take Daw to verbally say that he wants to join GWS more then anything.

At this stage, we were first to give Daw that opportunity and so we get first priority as he has accepted the invitation to train with us.

Or St Kilda, now that their No 1 ruckman, Marshall, is out injured, although they still do have the aging and injury-prone Ryder and McKernan on their books.

Do you mean that the scheme provides for the club that offers the invitation to train to have first priority through the AFL's process or do you mean the player has a moral responsibilty to sign with the club rather than another suitor?

player driven, i do agree a move to gws is unlikely, daw has a young child and his brother is settled here in melbourne playing for north heidelberg under boomer. would take a lot of convincing to move away from his support network like that you'd think

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
