Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Ventured to Casey this morning to find the arena "bathed" in light. Thinking I might have stumbled on part two of "Close Encounters of the Third Kind”, I was somewhat intrigued to see that the lights at Casey had in fact been turned on!!

Warmups consisted more or less of similar to last Friday, before segueing into a full scale practice match between the navy blues and the royal blues. Unless you knew the numbers, the colors were somewhat indistinguishable!

Here is my report.

NO SHOWS,  VINEY, KOSSIE, BEN BROWN, HIBBO, JOEL SMITH??? There might have been others but being outside the ground again made it difficult to distinguish

LIMITED DUTIES    MITCH BROWN, SPARGO, GUS , MELKSHAM

MATCH REPORT   The match ups were interesting with the navy blues containing what I believe to be the probables against the possibles, although having said that players who made up most of last year’s  list were sprinkled between the two sides.

RANDOM HIGHLIGHTS AND A FEW LOW ONES AS WELL

Game split into 4 about 15-20 min quarters, stiff wind blowing northerly away from the city, umpires were AFL list, I hink.

Trent Rivers played well across HBF and has become more at home and composed with the footy.

Ed Langdon was all over it on the wing and won possession after possession.

Harry Petty was played down back and whilst he did a few nice things, was not noticeable.

James Jordan has skills and played well in a variety of roles.

Vanders was back and was involved in a few bone jarring tackles and was his usual imposing self. At one stage Max took umbrage to his fierce tackling and let him know about it.

Clayton "Minestrone" Oliver was in everything and was the catalyst to so many clearances. His disposal was crisp and clean. It was between Max, Langdon and for BOG. The name "Minestrone" for me conjures up the fact that in one you get everything ... That was choo choo today!

L.J WOW ... has he come of age? Took  marks, kicked three goals, rucked, roved and was a catalyst - is ready to impose this year!

Harmes played ON BALL resting on a half forward flank and was back to his best. Expect to see him more in midfield this year.

Bailey Laurie and Jake Bowey -  take a bow recruiting team led by team Jason Taylor. Both are quick, decisive with hand and foot and both are excitment machines destined to play early this year, probably Bailey Laurie more so at this stage.

Fraser "The Freak" Rosman, WOW, Today took the MOTD and also kicked TGOTD. Was instrumental in some set ups and will play early. Faded towards the end but ... is exciting.

Trac just cannot be tackled he is soooo elusive just reminds me of myself in my heyday LOL ... Played like he did last year.

Tom McDonald was quiet early (matched up against Steve May) but kicked 2 or 3 good goals.

Similar to last week where I singled out Chunky Jones, today it was NEV JETTA'S turn to wind back the clock with a really good display down back.

Fritta was fritta laconic BUT dangerous.

Max did as he liked and whilst this is good please God if he or Clarry gets injured >>>>> ?

Others to impress were Aaron Nietschke, will be a formidable ruckman, Jay Lockhart, Toby Bedford, Kade Chandler and Aaron Bradke, Hunt was busy of the hbf and Chunky decisive

POSITIVES   As above, plus plenty of endeavour skills seemed better under pressure and players looking for smart options, we should have plenty of scope for multi options and a very strong second tier who are sure to put pressure on for game day spots in the ones.

NEGATIVES  We still have issues with kick out strategies. other teams seem to be able to do this at will but we struggle and a few times played on only to bomb hopefully. we stiil will over rely on our core group , but i can see visible narrowing of superstars and next tier. Hitting targets under pressure needs to be the focus

No slitherers seen today thankfully

Cheers PF

Excellent reporting PF. I think you've found your calling in life.

There hasn't been much mention of Fritsch in any of the reports (that i can remember). How's he looking and is he kicking straight?

A report to make me smile, even after the announcement about LOCKdown 06 or whatever number you like.

And thank you for going and reporting PF.

But are my inner demons correct when I think 3 games in, no wins, no hope,

Think I will temper my smiling until we get a couple of matches done and dusted.

But for 2 minutes I can smile.  Thanks again

Thanks, PF.  Really appreciated seeing your excellent report pop up.  Such a refreshing change from some of the endless drivvle on this site of late!

Just one question, re your comment about Nietschke being a ruckman.  You being serious?  I've no idea what position he plays, but ruck wasn't one that has ever entered my head.  Can you elaborate?

Great reporting Pickett.

How was young Kobe Farmer?

Dazzle gee I can see a truckload of potential there, I wouldn't say he looks overawed but still finding his feet in the pressure cooker.

He is very very quick and skills are neat.Took a clever mark and just missed kicking a goal into the breeze. Has a box of tricks ,but needs to grow in confidence, will need a few seasons but a definite keeper?

Given Nietschke is list at 185.....

Must have been one almighty growth spurt over summer!!! Was thinking PF must have muddled up Nietschke and Bradtke but ?‍♂️

Great reporting PF!
Fraser Rosman is sounding more and more likely to debut round one, looking forward to seeing him in action in the warm up matches. LJ as well is tracking well, could be a bit of a break out year, particularly with our first choice tall forwards injured for the early stages. TMac kicking a few snags is always great news, good for his confidence as well.

Anyone else concerned about the whole kozzy Pickett situation? I know he's been home in SA for for whatever reasons, but hasn't trained for 2 whole weeks, and now Victoria shutting down as a whole, I don't see him returning anytime soon.

I'm concerned for Kozzie, but I'm hoping there are others who are stepping into the void to put their hands up for selection.

Thanks for your great report today PF l like that Harmes is looking good and playing  some game time as a mid.

Vander's bone crunching tackles means that he is injury free and able to play in pre season matches. It would be good to see him involved.     LJ , Rivers and the young draftees in  Bowey and Lawrie They are our future and good to here they are doing well.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
