Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Disappointed  considering this but Steven May is probably the next best player id trust in the forward line to have a presence, draw an established and match him, have good positioning and clunk a few marks week in week out. If nothing else its worth a try if we dominate inside 50s and continually outmarked. And yes i know hes a wonderful defender.

Otherwise Gawn simply has to play more forward this year with Jackson in the ruck.  Hes the best contested mark in the game. We need legitimate marking targets.

Yes he can defend but is also useful up forward. Given we have a backline to pick from he can play at FF.

Of course he can go up forward but that wasn't the point of the post...our good friend the doctor seemed to imply that Goodwin had no idea playing him as a defender, his natural position.

Baldwin wouldn’t have been a great option as he’s recovering from a second ACL.

That's true but because of the big wraps about his ability as a junior and his character, I thought he would have been a good selection to bring in, not for immediate impact, but to be an understudy to Ben Brown for as long as it took - two years at Casey if necessary. Still, no club has picked him so there's probably something we don't know about him  that's keeping clubs from taking the risk.

Said this before pre Brown and Weideman injury that I felt we still lacked depth in our forward department and was amazed we had not invited a Jackson Callow or Kaine Baldwin as a train on instead of Kobe Farmer and Deakyn Smith. Two big strong key forwards who are physically ready to go.

Callow invited to train with Hawthorn as of last week.

How many key forwards can you have on a list Brown Tmac Weeds Jacko and Mitch Brown I don’t think there was room for any more

Well this has been a crap week for our forward line, particularly as a strong start is so important to the success of our year. Poor Weid, he was putting in so much hard work and now he'll have to start all over again.

Tommy has gone from being on the fringes (possibly playing wing), to competing for the other spot in the forward line, to now once again being our focal point. Welcome back to 2019 ?.

Bad luck for the Wied. I am one that believes he will become a very good forward. to me he showed a bit last year and I was looking forward to seeing progress again this season.

With both B Brown and Wied out for, at least, the early rounds I will be interested to see how we look at working around this problem. I think it could tell us a lot about the progress the coaching set up has made over the off season.

There is 6-7 weeks to go to round 1 so they have plenty of time to think it through and set up a number of options.

The form of Tmac, M Brown and Jackson at training and in the pre-season games will be critical to how the forward structure is set up.

If they are not performing then we could look at Petty, Tomlinson or Petracca as a focal point. Jackson I would not be putting too much pressure on to perform as yet. I think that sort of thing has lead to development problems with players in the past.

Yes thankfully we kept Tom. We are now looking at Tommy, Petty, Mitch Brown and Luke Jackson as key forwards, aligned with Fritsch, Tracc, Melchum as mid sized forwards with Spargo, Kossie, Nibbler as crumbers.... it’s not the end of the world if our midfield dominance continues into 2021 and you know we get that connection between mids and forwards functioning.

Through 2019 and well into 2020 that has been our biggest issue. I'm probably a little harsh on Tommy by saying welcome back to 2019, he's been training well and who knows he could have a second sunrise on his career as a forward. Either way we will either need that connection between midfield and forward to actually work (I personally think to do think Fritch needs to play on the HFF instead or rotating with Melksham) or we need to create more goals out of our midfielders such as Oliver, Brawshaw, Viney, and perhaps Harmes.

I just really hope for Wieds sake that his hard work over the summer hasn't been for nothing.

Probably already been said before but wouldn't surprise to see Petty given a go up forward.

Your right, people saying that Goodwin won't put him forward, because he has been training as a forward, and he is the worst coach and is inflexible, forget that petty played his last game as a forward.

Sounds like Petty will be reassigned up forward.

It’s not great news but at least it’s early Feb, we still have T Mac (who’s super fit with a point to prove), Mitch Brown, Jackson and a stack of other mid and small forward options.

We’re better when we’re not drinking our own bath water.

It’s not over yet. In fact, the season’s not yet even started.

And we’re not Collingwood.

No need to panic Demonland, keep calm and throw the big fella Petty forward, its his time to shine with Action and Tmac in support.

Rather this happen now and we can plan for it rather than during the season where we would be well and truely fcukd.

Mitch Brown is 31 years and we are in trouble and going nowhere if he's playing round 1. Ben Brown is half cooked with knee issues which we were well aware pre trade period. Petty has missed 12 months of football due to injury and will be a fair way off match fitness. Tom McDonald is cooked. He'll never get back to his best and people need to start accepting that.

Weideman has now gone down. McDonald takes the number 1 defender now and Jackson the 2nd best.

Defenders will be laughing.

Oh come on dazzle, what rubbish.

We went into this season with B Brown, Weid, Jackson, TMac and M Brown, not to mention Petty. We didn't and don't need more tall forwards. Suggesting that we should have then added an 18-year old project player to the list is ridiculous. How would an 18-year old fix the problem you're discussing here of McDonald taking the number 1 defender and Jackson the 2nd?

List management cannot plan for worst case scenarios of the number 1 and number 2 forward getting injured in back-to-back weeks.

It's not as if TMac hasn't done it before, and indeed M Brown has played the number 2/3 forward role well too. They're wholly acceptable options as the back up we'd planned them to be, and now need to rely on.

It sucks that this is where we're at, but it is what it is. Most recent premiers have faced injury issues at some point in their season.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
