Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

So you think 1 of 2 untried 18/19 year olds who were not drafted would be slotted in round 1 and make the difference? How many slots do we have available and what would stop us listing one now? This is not preferred but better these happen now than half way through the season if they occur. Or we could just not be conservative and grind them both in the ground for round 1 and have them useless 3 rounds in? .Lucky we retained TMac and he is in good shape. Lucky we retained M Brown. I wonder if they look at pivoting Petty forward?

No that's not what I said.

I just had concerns with the depth of our tall stocks and felt we still needed a developing young tall in the wings in case a Brown, Weideman etc go down.

I'd rather be putting games into a young 18/19 developing tall like a Callow who is physically ready then say a Mitch Brown who will now most likely get a gig come round 1.

Petty imo is still a fair way off. He missed 12 months through injury and isn't even doing full training and still doing modified work. Again, question marks over the durability of his body.

Jaded it is not as thought we are missing a 50 goal forward. He was very average for most of last year and in the last month where we needed a key forward he was terrible. One game he had a total of 3 involvements. He had yet to prove he belongs at senior level IMO.

It's not about kicking 50 goals.

It's about him taking the pressure off Luke Jackson and Bayley Fritsch who would have both gotten the 3rd and 4th defender.

Weideman and Brown out changes the whole dynamic set up of our forward line.

Jackson now cops the 2nd best defender and personally I think he'll struggle with the adjustment and bigger defender.

That may be the case od but looked at another way he is a high draft pick, reasonable experienced key forward now, and we need those types on the park and performing. I have a question mark over BB for a number of reasons so this is not a good start. I think Mitch Brown is ok but only for a goal or so a game. TMac is unknown quantity. I would get Petty into the key forward role. We gotta be a bit daring this year.

Don't disagree, if Mitch brown averaged 1 goal a game he would be way in front of the Weid.

Weideman finished 10th in the B&F last year so he's a bigger loss than most here are recognizing. yeah he struggled towards the end of the year, but i thought that was understandable given the backing up of games on a short turn around and without getting much help in the way of key forwards to share the load. but he was averaging 2 goals a game up until the last 4 rounds.

but the bigger picture is the accumulative effect this has on the team. if they weren't injured it'd be B.Brown drawing the number 1 defender, Weid gets the 2nd, then Fritsch or Jackson gets the 3rd or 4th. someone is likely to get off the hook.

now on last years form we'll probably have Jackson and Fritsch getting the first and second defenders, then TMac getting the 3rd, and M.Brown the 4th and that's if they even bother putting anyone on him at all seeing as he usually leads up far away from goal to gather easy kicks. now that looks a lot less likely to me that someone gets off the hook and kicks goals there.

hopefully BB will be be back in action early enough, but there's still a question mark over that knee of his, and can Tmac get back to his best and have an impact this year? can M.Brown be a productive goal kicker? can Petty be swung forward to draw a key defender and kick enough goals?

there's plenty of question marks on this lot still.

I'll take the glass half full approach.

Which is based on a glass half empty premise. Which is that i have to say i've lost faith in Weed.

He was rubbish last year. He had the perfect opportunity to stamp himself as the man down forward but the longer the season went the less interested he looked. He seemed to go to the Melksham school of tackling and half arsed effort.

When he began i saw him at practice match at the Holden centre and thought he looked a natural forward. But he doesn't seem as if he has really devloed his forard craft. And is too easliy pushed under the ball for mine.

So the glass half full is that Tmac plays deep -as he should have last year and LJ and Mitch Brown are the other key forwards. With Smith down there too flying at every height ball and generally going crazy. And together they rock

Exactly sums up my thoughts, but we need BBB back sooner rather than later.

Brown  will be back by round 3 and we still have Jackson, Mitch Brown and TMac.

Then Weed will be back mid year.

Its a blow but we can cover.

He explained why that happened in the post-season interview he did. Not ideal, but he wasn't the only one across the AFL who struggled with the circumstances they were all in.

You are trying to tell me that a key forward is not supposed to kick goals!

Apart from Hunt, whose two high-scoring games skewed the stats, Weidemann had the highest goals/game average last year.

Petty is actually a forward. but goodwin sees him as a defender. If Goodwin had a brain he'd move Petty forward now but he won't because he's literally the worst coach of the modern era

Rubbish - Petty is a natural defender. I watched him quiet a bit at Casey & he has the potential to be a top quality defender.

I still reckon we should make the 8 at the least. We didn’t have B Brown last year and Weid was in the 2’s for the first 6 weeks (I think) so we’re pretty much as you were and we should have played finals last year.

A leaner TMac to find some form, LJ to continue his development and Fritsch to bring his shooting boots. Petracca to chip in. Maybe Maxy bobs up with a few. Midfielders to deliver half decent ball and we should be ok. We won’t be blowing teams away but we should still win more than we lose. B Brown will be back and should be hitting his straps by rounds 6-8 and we’re in business.

The danger now is we do exactly what Kane Cornes said we would do, let our heads drop, lose winnable games early and have to play catch-up for the season.

Spot on 'Cranky'...Petty played his junior footy as a defender and came to the club as such...

Yes he can defend but is also useful up forward. Given we have a backline to pick from he can play at FF.

The days of just sitting at full forward just to kick goals only are long gone Old, It's changed now hence why we haven't had a power full forward kick a century since 2008.

Get with the times mate, I know you well enough not to explain further.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
