Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

AFLW: Rd 02 vs Richmond

Great win by the Dees keep it up girls. Goldrick BOG, Hanks, Paxman and Mithen prolific again. Good games from Bannon and Hore.

Professional performance.

Need to fix the starts.

Forward pressure still lacking. I’m not a Petrevski fan so there’s an chance to add a different pacy option or two. More quick and crazy Irish women if possible!

Maddi Guy hurry back we need that big body and long kick in the midfield too.

Beautiful ball movement between the arcs. The wind makes it tough but still a lot of inside 50 opportunities to fix up.

  • Demonland changed the title to AFLW: Rd 02 vs Richmond

Went down but I won't start whinging about the silly zones system.

On the other hand I thaught we played poorly today. Kicking was poor and still too many handballs but are getting better in that direction. Our players played inconsistantly as well but there were some noticable momments. Bannon second quarter was exceptional. She is a very strong mark. Tyla hanks second half was also very good and paxman came into it as well. Mithen played well and Hore put in one good quarter. Daisy was good as well. Zanker put in a better effort than last week and cunningham was good to. Hardly noticed Lauren Pearce.

Richmond are crap.

It's a long way from home (in a couple of respects), but I'm almost starting to believe.

Beautiful evening out at Casey. Stiff breeze but thankfully not the gale that often blows. Top marks to the grounds staff, the deck looked immaculate.

Thought it could be one of those days when Frederick marked and goaled early but after that there was really only one team in it. Out delivery inside 50 was poor in the first quarter but improved as the game went on. Ball movement was pretty good actually with one passage in the third quarter in particular where we almost went coast to coast.

Bannon can play. Showed real smarts to leave her opponent sitting on her [censored] while she took a simple mark and goal. Her positioning is very good, she knows how to nudge and outbody in the marking contest. I think she’ll be a great player for us.

Goldrick is a ripper. Knows only one way to play. See ball, attack ball. She beat Brennan all ends up and ran off her all day.

All in all I though it was a good performance. We need to sharpen up in certain areas for sure but we’ve got 2 wins in the bag which will give us confidence and belief for the much tougher assignments which lie ahead.

Go Dees.

Another great win by the girls.  It also showed the difference between top and bottom sides, where the ones at the top have that group of seasoned campaigners who don't stop for the whole game.

Paxman was superb again, but not as noticed this week, but she was always in the scrap in the middle.  Hanks was also fantastic, and has also learnt to put the ball on the boot to clear the pack in the middle.  Simply appalling umpiring decision to award a HTB against her in the first seconds of the game.  No prior at all.  Still she stuck to her guns and along with KP just ground the likes of Conti into the ground.

Lauren Pearce was fantastic again.  She does more than just hit the ball out, she has great ground skills, and this was telling when having to play against Sabrina Frederick.  Richmond needed her ( when she was in the ruck) and Conti to provide drive, and they didn't get it all game.  Take away the first minute and the final couple of the game, and Richmond would not have scored a major.

Don't you just love Goldrick.  She just has one approach...see ball get ball...and heaven help anyone who gets in her way.  Can't wait to see McEvoy and McGee out there with her, that will be one tough unit.

Fortunately, we cut down on the handball this week.  Kicks off the ground were used instead of trying to pick it up like last week, and the result was the ball just gets to the scoring end.  We still have a propensity to go for short kicks, and against a better side, we would have paid heavily a couple of times.

Bannan is a real find.  She is what the recruiters were looking for.  Someone who has played the game all her life, and has that background of knowing when to go and when to hang back.  And has good overhead skills to boot!  Loved McNamara again, she will be, and has been in her 2 games another great find, being a natural footballer.

Can't go past the efforts of Lily Mithen.  She has stepped up to a different level, and her ability to get ball to boot in tight situations was critical.  With Hanks and KP they make a first rate on-ball brigade.  We have 3 talents in there and most teams struggle to have one at that level.

Up forward Bannan and Hore were the major scorers, but a shout out should go to Eden Zanker who gifted Hore one of her goals with a smart tap, and then she fills in the ruck position and still does a great job.

2 from 2.  Much  better position to be in than we have found ourselves in past years, where we were not winning the winnable games, and we had an injury list which limited chances.  With only the hamstring loss of Petrevski, we still have a host of both experienced and newer players ready to go, so we can only get better.

Dee-molition leaves Tigers helpless

Didn't follow the game live yesterday, but what a great headline to wake up to this morning.

Regardless of the opposition, it's a credit to the women's side to get off to a great start to the season.  Something I feel both our women's and men's teams have struggled with in recent times is getting wins on the board early in the season.  Sets up the rest of the season so much better when the team can bank the wins and consolidate a ladder position and conservatively manage injuries from there, rather than playing catch-up in the season half of the season, with every game becoming a must win just to make finals.

Just watching the GWS v Adelaide ALFW game. I can see 1 spectator (probably wandered in by mistake). Perhaps the crowd are located on the near side out of camera shot (but I doubt it).

Makes you wonder about the sustainability of GWS??

There's no crowds allowed at either the GWS v Adelaide and Freo v WC games because of the COVID case in Perth the other week.

Ah. that would explain it.

Still. quite possible no spectators would have turned up anyways.

I wouldn’t get carried away by 2-0. Our opposition has been ordinary.

Still, a win’s a win and two wins are two out of two which is a 100% record.

However, North Melbourne and Fremantle appear to be the front runners and the big tests are yet to come.

Yes, from what I saw of the different games, esp. the Sunday ones.  Massive gap between the skill levels and structures of the top/bottom teams. The newer teams will continue to really struggle til they build up their experiences and cohesion.

Yeah the Roo's look ominous at the moment, still built on the raid they did on other clubs in their first year.

St Kilda Coach, Peta Searle, bemoaned the concessions North has been given.

“North are an outstanding side. They’ve got a great list. They started with a great list and they’ve been gifted top-10 players every year to top up,” Searle said.

Not surprisingly North are the flag favourites.   There looks to be a number of likely teams in the next group including the Dees.  The draw will influence where we finish as there are some less competitive teams and we don’t play everyone.

There has been obvious improvement with all our girls this year.  With Petrevski out with a hammy and Maddi Gay back this week I wonder whether there will be further changes.

Were they given extra help than, was it Geelong who joined at the same time?  I know they were smart in how they put it togethor.  Do the girls salary cap?

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
