Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Paul Spargo's son Charlie. He's no longer a boy - he grew up in the off-season and now is closer in style to Robbie Gray with his lively play a highlight.

I've been a Spargo doubter. Will be very pleasantly surprised if he develops into a Gray type.

Thanks for the reports.

Tmac please don't bring your don't argue back coz everytime you did it they argued and won! Face it mate, you're not a master debator like dust is.

It would be nice if we could have a few years where we are all excited about pre season then those expectations are actually lived up to.

Very big Thanks to all the track watchers and reports that we are getting.

Priceless info on differing methods About players and the best is their training and development. Every now- and again I twitter to myself about something or a gem From a post .
At this stage From the training reports

I have about 2/3 of our list improving of our older 21plusses and all the 2019 and 2020 draftees developing nicely.

Finally Hunt Salem Fritsch look as though they are going to become close to the players they were recruited 3 to 5 years ago. And fabulous to hear that all the D/L ers lining up Charlie as The Oscar bagging  clone will have to find another Player.

Sparrow Jordan and Lockhart plus the young Tyros Jacko Kossie Riv plus Ros Laurie and Bowey are creating a standard that is well overdue with theIf  talent and potential.

Of course having Maxy Maysie Trac AndClarry setting the Standards  overall Is of great comfort as is  Choco and Ooze Running the drills.

Surely we can improve our footy in the wind because we don't play our games at Marvel and MCG all the time esp in aCovid year!!

Thanks again  Track watchers Your efforts are greatly appreciated.

the notion of spargo turning into our robbie gray type sounds very promising

bit of a myth re distance of his kicking tho; i seem to remember he had no issues dobbing one from just inside the 50 arc in a final

It was a mm over 40.

I also echo my thanks and appreciation to our track watchers.

I’m interested in Luke Jackson’s position this year. Will it be as the back up ruck for Max, a key forward or as a wingman or even a midfielder?

All of the above

Re Spargo, I didn't notice any bloopers or highlights for that matter, he was Consistent! Rivers just seems to almost be on automatic autopilot, just does everything well! As iterated I would not be surprised to see Rosman and Laurie make debuts in round 1. Dogga Jackson similarly looks at home in AFL Footy and will play vital roles this year.

Spargo has always shown ‘footy smarts’ and is only a few years in.
I’m really pleased he’s progressing and obviously with time building the body, tank and confidence to take the game on more he’s really starting to blossom.
IIRC they said he essentially drifted down the order due to a leg injury otherwise he would’ve gone higher.

Let’s hope it all translates to the season proper and he can bob up with a couple of goals each game.

To track watchers, thank you, but I have a question.

Would you say that we appear to be training "systems" in drills? In other words, are the coaches teaching specific positioning and player movement in certain scenarios. The best teams are the ones that are well drilled and play a recognisable system that the players "get" and can execute. I hope Yze brings some great knowledge from the Hawks, but equally he has a way of teaching that drills in a system.

I often get the feeling our players are just running around like u12's and have vague instructions like "create space" or "block for your teammate". The problem is our midfield often get in each others way. So many times we play good teams where the players know when and where to go. It's concerning to hear of too many handballs to players who aren't really clear and therefore requires extra evasion to get clear. Or maybe we're just so great at defence?!

Given how professional the league is these days, and the staff, time and technology available, I imagine they would already be doing this. The problem is I don't really see it in games

Having watched training regularly in previous seasons at Gosch’s and then watching in dismay at some of our match day efforts I have regularly commented on Dland that these guys are not playing as they train. The mid/forward disconnect that is talked about ad nauseam, you know the running forward and attacking in straight, predictable lines, the long bombing to the square, when the forwards have led out of the square, etc, etc. You don’t see that at training in game simulations, it is all about unpredictable ball movement, looking for free and short options, constant movement. Come game day against a good opponent this all disappears at least in the past 2 seasons. Maybe this is the year it all starts to work.

Interesting that some folks lack confidence in Charlie.

In his first year he played 18 of our 25 games and iirc all three finals.  Coaches showed a lot of faith in him.  He had some injuries and for whatever other reason hasn't played a lot in the last 2 years.

So not surprised at track watchers reports that he is becoming a very good footballer or that he will be in the starting 22.

He has just turned 21 so a few years to go before reaching 'football maturity'.  A lot to look forward to.

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P
