Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Review Finds Collingwood Guilty of Systemic Racism

Lumumba has said that he didn't stand up for himself back in those days as he wanted to be accepted.

Without further context all this does is prove further that it happened and make it even more dubious that senior figures, including coaches, continue to deny they ever knew about it.

This is more sad than it is controversial, although obviously that will vary depending on which lens you choose to view it through.

All good points, as we're lg's in the previous post.

As you ssy a young fella looking to fit in is likely to do all manner of things that he later regrets (i know that is true of me)  including accepting offensive epithets.

It is also worth noting that he has said his sense of who he is and his identity grew later (iirc he was adopted into a white family)

A strong culture and leadership knocks tha nick name on the head the very first time it used. And makes it clear it is not to be used. All the while supporting the young man.

He started his career this century, not 1980.

Its pretty well known that footy players don't fill out those "player profiles". Not saying Lumumba didn't complete this one but few footy players do this, its usually other players on their behalf or media departments from memory.

Any evidence of this ? If you actually read all his answers it doesn't look like the stuff the PR people would know.

In any case you prove my point ie you 100% support any evidence that backs your argument and ignore or minimise any evidence to the contrary.

That's the Q Anon playbook.

There's some irony that Eddie was protected by the boys club when he truly did stuff up a number of times over the years and should've received a greater punishment then. But now he's been hounded by a select group of boys and girls after commissioning a report in an attempt to help his footy club.

Calling on Nike and Emirates to pressure the Pies, really? Those bastions of ethical business getting up on their high horses. Taking the bloke to task because he committed the great error of being positive and 'proud' of his football club and tried to push the message that they were working on reforms.

I don't have a lot of sympathy for Eddie who should've given the gig up years ago but I do wonder where we're going as a society when the answer is to gang up and take someone down just to feel important. It's nonsense.

Yes because out of all this Eddie is the victim..

He deserves everything that comes at him. AFL were too soft in standing up to him, so he's getting what he rightly deserves.

There's no guarantee that Heretier actually provided these answers. They could have been written by someone in Collingwood's media team.

And there's no evidence he didn't provide the answers either.

You think the media team came up with "a chimpanzee" by themselves ?

You sound like HL's PR team.

All I'm suggesting is that someone in Collingwood's media team might have provided the answers and included that expression because that's a name that person had heard Heretier being called. It doesn't mean that Heretier approved of the name or enjoyed being called by it.

So what if he did?

Leaving aside any discussion about why a 21 year old kid might have felt compelled to go along with that nick name (you, know like aa culture of systemic racism) let's say he made those responses. So what?

It might be relevant in the inevitable civil compensation case thread. but this thread is about an external review, commissioned by the club, that found the CFC guilty of systemic racism. It's remit did not include investigating Lumumba's complaints. So didn't specifically address them, beyond recommending an investigation take place.

They sound pretty legitimate....A media team would not be so specific with all the nicknames, nor would not be saying Rhys is most annoying then implying it was joke and saying i love you Rhys.   It seems pretty obvious it is legit.  Why are people trying to refute what is actually written? None of what he says actually changes what the whole topic is about...systematic racicm.  I think many do not quite understand the concept of it sadly.

I think the opposite. All the content you identify as being  drafted by the player I see as being written by a professional writer. But I agree with you that none of it changes what this topic is or should be about.

People really love making excuses for Lumumba.  The same people who say he didn't fill out that AFL record player profile are the same ones saying his ex teammate Simon Buckley lied about Harry O making up the nickname Chimp for himself.

 The guy is toxic.

Agree with u wholeheartedly PJ. This self obsessed prat made more money in footy than I made in a lifetime & didn't exactly endear himself to supporters with the way he finished at Melbourne.

He can stay in the US & count his $$. I reckon he & Eddie & the Pies all deserve each other.

I am thinking that responses like this you would have been one of the masses booing Adam Goodes for no reason at all.  Do you personally know the guy, has he done anything to you, screwed your missus? Fmd the racists here are disgraceful.

Are you saying that a person who makes good money from his or her occupation cannot also be subjected to racism? Why else mention "his $$"?

"Ever since I went public in 2017 with my experience, I've been consistent in saying that I initially went along with the nickname and a lot of other racist behaviour in order to fit in," he tweeted.

"The document is proof that the nickname did indeed exist and was widely known in the club.

"Some people are trying to use it as a means to discredit me, without realising that it's damning evidence that works against CFC and the AFL.'

Says it all, P2J: you and the Cranky are peas from the same pod, in other words, you just don't get how racism works. I'd hate to have to have anything to do with people like you on a day to day basis.

No I didn't boo Goodes though I didn't like him as a player, but I booed Chris Lewis & Tony Shaw and Linsdsay Thomas & Steve Silvagni and Robbie Muir and Barry Hall so I'm not sure what that makes me.

I did get into a blue at the G once with another Melbourne supporter who was screaming at a young J Farmer to stop going on walkabout.

And no Goodes has not screwed my missus. Why do you ask ? Has he screwed yours ?

Ok Dieter I don't mind that you disagree with me but don't tell me I don't know how racism works because I am a wog as well and I copped racism all through school.

I've also worked on a number of Indigenous Communities in the NT and am proud to count maybe 20 to 30 Aboriginal people as good friends or at least solid acquaintences so I know very well how racism works.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
