Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Minor Procedure For Viney (Foot)

Demonland

Recommended Posts

if you class trac as more inside-outside, viney is a miles better footballer than any other inside mid option we have other than oliver, and his defensive tendencies are better than clarry

the amount of opprobrium for a former captain and multiple b&f top 5 placegetter on this site is baffling

we are a much better side when viney is up and going than when he's sitting on the sidelines; here's hoping for a quick and full recovery

I'm not a huge Viney fan . . . so last year I thought I'd go and have a look at where he ranks in the league on all the important KPIs that the league measures for its players. Here's the news: Viney is in the top 200 players in the league on 80 percent of performance indicators. He's got his deficiencies and drives many of us mad at times, but there's not a club in the comp that wouldn't have him in their best 18. And he'd be in the best six players at at least six clubs, based on his KPIs, IMHO.

Is the 'top 200 players' a typo and you mean top 20?

Top 200 is not much to right home about...

No, it's not a typo LH. After scrutinising exactly what I wrote, and if one analyzes the data mathematically, it makes him a pretty good player. At a bear minimum, it puts him in the best 25 percent of players in the comp. And I suspect if one undertook further analysis of the raw data (e.g. the precise ranking of all his KPIs), he would probably be in the top 15-20 percent of players running around.

I try not to get MFCSS if I can help it but even if he is back running in two weeks that would likely be putting him behind anyway on conditioning and as many have alluded to with his history of foot issues and our history with foot related injuries not being great I'm not expecting him to be back super fast. Whatever the case may be let's take things slow with him.

I thought seeing Jack in one of the training clips today doing the rope exercise in the gym a couple of days after surgery was a positive in terms of a quick recovery. That’s the way I’ll look at it until otherwise.

Jack Viney is inside the top 60... ahead of Joel Selwood, Daniel Rich, Mark Blicavs, Andrew Gaff, Lachie Whitfield, Jack Gunston, Cameron Guthrie, Darcy Moore... to name but a few!

He is never in the top 50 players reviewed each year fwiw.  Not exactly comparing onballers with wingers/half back flankers.  I would think the areas he would definitely be in front are turnovers and clangers.  He has large heart but plays with very little brains imo.  I think top 200 would be accurate.  To get an accurate picture of where he lies he should be compared with on ballers only.  I doubt he would be in the top 30% of all onballers, would be surprised if he was!

Just looked up clangers count from last season.

We have 3 players within the top 20 which is not a good stat to have.

3. Clayton Oliver    69 total clangers.

12. Christian Petracca   60 clangers.

18 Jack Viney   55 clangers.

Looking at previous years appears to be much the same in terms of clangers.  Need to find ways to be much cleaner from what is supposedly a very good midfield.

Adding turnover counts....

Equal 4th.  Christian Petracca   84 turnovers for 2020

8. Jack Viney   80 turnovers

19 Clayton Oliver    77 turnovers

Harmes/Brayshaw right up on these lists when they play onball too.  We basically have bunch of onballers that undo a lot of their good work with careless skill errors and turnovers.  Until we clean these areas up i don't think we will go far.

My analysis figures are directly from AFL rating points which are established from a formula that covers a wide range of indicators. In a counter argument to yours, these ratings include goals (which advantages forwards over most mid-fielders). Obviously, this approach enables a data based comparison across player positions.

So where does he rate amongst all onballers for last year?   I am looking currently at footywire and can't seem to make that filter/comparison.  Realistically i have him as our 3rd best onballer....doubt he would be the number one at any of the other teams.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
