Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Jordan Lewis’s views on Kossie

Kozzie needs to get his fitness up before he can make a decent impact and fulfill his talents. He’s dead last on our list for fitness, to the point now where he’s being put into the rehab group at training because he can’t keep up.

Is there any evidence for this? He could be in the rehab group for a niggle or because he’s done a lot of work and needs to be held back.

Lewis says he’s tearing up the track. That doesn’t exactly correlate with remedial fitness work.

a woeful comparison. Cyril kept his feet in the contest whereas Kozzy always falls over. Cyril also had far better foot skills and football IQ/nous around goals.

It wasn't really a "comparison". He simply said he's seen Kozzy do some things up the field that he hasn't seen since Cyril.

He didn't say they play the exact same way. He didn't say Kozzy will be as good as Cyril. He didn't say they do all the same things.

Pretty silly to say it's a "woeful comparison" given a) It wasn't a comparison, and b) The bloke giving his opinion has 4 flags and has spent a fair bit of time watching both players in training.

Rioli started his career with in a top performing team with experienced players like Hodge, Franklin, Lewis, Mitchell, Roughhead in the team to give him cover and provide him with scope to perform.

Kozzie started in a dud season without this experienced core to shield him. If he is good enough we will soon know. The bits I saw last year give me confidence that he has many of the right qualities to progress.

Let's all calm own and give him the time and space he needs to develop.

That’s Pickett compared with Dan Rioli. All he has to do is find half a tackle more and 3 uncontested touches which comes from work rate and team cohesion and he’s on par statistically.

Games are won largely by 22 players knowing and doing their role. If one of our big forwards stands up along with Gawn, Oliver, Petracca and May I think we’ll be fine for star power. It’s finding more consistency and skill across the 22 that holds us back.

Dan Rioli would be 3rd or 4th in line over there, if that.

The biggest knock on Kossie when recruited was his lack of fitness and tendency to fade in and out of games.
All I can do is comment on what I actually saw during the season. Some of his end to end running last season creating chains of possessions or creating forward options having run from the backline were phenomenal. Personally I’m not worried about his fitness levels. Lord Nev how do you know he’s in the rehab group because of lack of fitness? Are you guessing or did the coaches tell you that.
Fading in and out of games could be a worry or could be a reflection on a completely disfunctional forward line with minimal opportunities for crumbing small forwards. Cyril averaged something like 12 possessions a game. It’s not everything.

Am I missing something? I thought it was Lord Travis that made the comment.

I do agree with your question however

Such criticism for a player entering just his 2nd year of AFL. From memory Cyril was never a 4 quarter player but could win a game in a quarter. If Lewis is seeing some of those attributes...then very happy with that !  To me who judged his first season as just that ...I believe he has enormous upside which we will see building over the next few seasons.

That was @Lord Travis mate. But fair question.

@It's Time

Someone at the club told me they were having to manage his training loads to build his endurance, as he’s a fair way behind most of the list. Nothing to be concerned about, he’s young and they don’t want him to overdo it and develop groin or foot issues. He’s got a fair way to go though fitness wise before we’ll see anywhere near the best of him. Obviously we’re going to invest hard and be patient in developing him after spending a first rounder on him and filling a big need on our list.

He’s a talent for sure, but long way to go and comparisons with Cyril are silly IMO. Cyril performed at a high level from day one. Can only hope Kozzie will reach similar levels!

I reckon he was pretty good in his first season...

He needed to steady and convert a bit better but will learn that.

...and he brought the forward pressure that we sadly needed.

For a kid that doesn't have a tank he sure worked hard up and back, he wasn't afraid to work.

Couldn't ask for much more.

Bit of an overreaction from many on here.

He never said Kozzie is as good as Cyril was at the same age. Just says hes doing similar things. And I reckon Jordy is in a better position than anyone here to make such comparisons.

Calm your collective farms, and enjoy some favorable commentary from someone most of us here respect.

this kid has X factor, something we sorely have missed. Very few on our list have that game winning X factor. Even our better midfielders wonderful at the coal face don't have the finishing skills. so lets give him time to develop and just play his role.

I thought Jackson showed a great deal in 5 games last year to get excited about and Kossie is not far behind. he has the tools to work with.

It just occurred to me that surely a more entertaining comparison would be with his uncle.  More similar body and style to a young Byron than to Cyril.

For the record, Byron only broke through for one game in his first season. His second was good and his third was outstanding, with his effectiveness is highlight by 11 Brownlow votes.

The dream of course if for Kozzie to emulate Byron's peak three years with 40 goals a season and a Norm Smith Medal.

If Lewis want's to make an interesting exercise of the comparisons he should get his mate Shaun Burgoyne in to do some work with Kozzie and then offer a first-hand comparison of all three - Byron, Cyril and Kysaiah.

nah he's still best 22 but he isn't the answer to having a 200 game small pocket like farmer, Davey, Robbo etc.

He is about to start his 2nd year.
The Wiz didn’t have a clue when he started in ‘95. I saw him playing practice matches at Waverley

I agree he was OK, showed some glimpses but really needs to nail his chances. He missed 2 relatively easy snaps against the Dogs and some chances in other games too. Convert those and he'll be a player for us.

Interesting take on this. I had never thought of Davey and Robbo as small pocket players, I must of missed something. Please continue to profor these nuggets, it will certainly enhance your reputation.

I agree re Robbo. Could never be seen as a small pocket. Aaron Davey though started there and sort of redefined the role of small forward. I think its a bit of a travesty he never made it to 200 games. If he stayed forward more or had more physical support in the midfield Im sure he would have. Loved his story and career regardless.

...and he's still a good bloke apparently, helping a lot of young players develop.

Some of you guys crack me up.

No one knows what the  future will bring with kosi,

Point in case is Aaron Davey. At 16 years of age he had his sublime skills  but was as slow as a wet week. And look what happened there.

Relax and let it unfold

If it  happens you will enjoy it more,

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
