Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

There was a piece very early last week somewhere on social media that Jack had gone in for scans on his foot. It would seem that the club managed to keep the story under wraps for almost the whole week. Not sure if there’s value in doing this.

If that were the case I'm surprised they didn't select sparrow as emergency, who I would have thought was a more like for like alternate than Baker.

Much better to have had Sparrow - but he did play on Thursday.  He is the like for like replacement, even improvement on Jones or Jack.  Was v. impressive in the 2s and was surprised he was dropped earlier in the season, I thought his role playing through the first games was a large part of early season wins.....

If this is Jack's foot now what will his foot be like in 3-5 years.  I am seeing a lot of downside.

I think people are being a bit naive to think that this is purely management. he has a 2-3 week injury which is probably equivalent to a 2 month injury for an everyday person that isn't getting daily treatment etc. so this is an injury. It's frustrating because we got smacked in defensive pressure yesterday which comes down to intent which is what Viney has. And I go back to pre-season against the bulldogs and we got hammered against them at marvel and not having Viney hurt a lot.

Regardless of Jack Viney being a late withdrawal, it's hard to understand why Melbourne held over Jones, Petty, Mitch Brown and Baker for Sunday after Casey played on Thursday night (which was a ridiculous piece of Foxtel scheduling in the first place). Jones was dropped this week, and is no longer a midfielder, so why have him as a reserve for the North game? You clearly want to rotate your subs so they get some game time for Casey to maintain fitness but Sparrow played Round 2 for Casey so should have been one of the reserves on the weekend, rather than Jones. Then Sparrow would have come into the side, with Baker remaining sub.

I don't think Baker deserves to be dropped but agree that now Viney is out we need someone with midfield grunt. Harmes has to come in, but maybe he cones in for Melksham and Sparrow comes in for Baker, and Baker goes back to sub. Watching the Casey game, I'd love to have Kade Chandler in the side as well, a great ball user.

Sparrow is very much a replacement for Viney. As for Viney's foot, this will be with him for the rest of his career  (similar to BBB's knee). Have to manage it and be conservative with his workload's etc. I think he was probably due for a week off about now. He'll get another 2 weeks during bye weekend then probably rest in the lead up to finals.

Still have no idea why in 2021 a player like Viney, who has ongoing problems with feet cannot have a personalized pair of boots made for him to minimise this problem.

What's the evidence that a personalized pair of boots solves the problem he has?   (Not saying it's not true, just interested.)

They might have personalized inserts which may obviate the need for special boots.   Had some myself years ago for planar faciitis.

I don’t understand why we rushed to give him 5 years when he has so many ongoing foot issues.
There is no doubt he’s an important part of our team and we are worse off defensively in clearances when he isn’t playing. But he hasn’t had an injury free season for a long long time, and that doesn’t appear to be changing.
It’s a real concern that he can’t get over the foot problems.

Since injuring his foot in 2017, Jack has averaged 15 games per season from 2018-2020.  He is an absolute jet and a big game player, if he played 10-15 games a season for the next few years and we manage him so he is available to play finals then he represents great value.

Probably one of the biggest games I have seen from any player was Viney v West Coast in 2017, he had 38 disposals and fell a couple of possessions short of the all time contested possession record despite missing the 3rd quarter with a shoulder injury, and came back in the 4th to get us across the line.

No doubt they have inserts. I have always wondered why it hasn’t been more.

Sad news for Tommo, has been a key part of the back 6 this year, and cannot be underestimated in allowing May and Lever to play the roles that we need of them.

That said I think between Hibberd, Petty and TMac we have options for covering him.

There should be no need to rush Vines back or any player for that matter with the start we have had. (7-0 just had to put it in?)

The medicos are doing a tremendous job and he will be welcomed back into the fold when he's cherry ripe.

We really missed him today, he’s been outstanding this year!. Hoping they caught it early and it’s only 2 week break.

Hopefully not a break at all !

Have they though?   I think it's pretty common knowledge that Jack has issues with his feet that need to be managed.  This isn't really that much of a surprise.  Just because he's missing a few weeks with a hot spot doesn't mean he's been mismanaged, it's always a watching brief with Jack.  That's why it's only 2-3 weeks and not 2-3 months because the club are sensitive to the issue.

Maybe there was a longer term plan to "manage" him and not play him in the "easy" games like v the bottom team. Nearly came unstuck but nevertheless it would be a reasonable way to manage him.

and didn't they say it was a toe not the foot?

The toe is part of the foot.  Not sure that a footy club necessarily releases public information with precise anatomical detail.

SWYL - do you KNOW that he does not have personalised orthodontic boots?  My guess would be that he has already.

Quite possibly he does, i sure hope so.
Jack will always have foot ? issues, whatever he has now is not doing the job.
he hasn’t looked 100% for a few weeks.
we need him on the field

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
