Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

If he's going to be out for at least a few weeks then perhaps the club could investigate bonding adamantium to his bones, the same material used by Wolverine the fictional comic character.

Fictional?

Dang it. Another shattered illusion.

If we can get through this period without May that will speak volumes for our system.

It's not earth shattering to suggest I think it could cost us the Richmond game at least and maybe even the Sydney game.

I think Petty will be a good intercept defender in time, but I worry that he's too inexperienced for Lynch or Riewoldt and second game back it will be a big challenge.

But I thought we'd lose to Geelong, so what would I know?

Our defensive system is rock solid. One change should be fine - even one as important as May.

Petty will come in for May this week.

Petty is not an intercept defender i don't reckon - at least not in the Lever/kelly mode. He is more the the classic man on man full back. So a like for like replacement for May - well not as good obviously, but you get my meaning.

And i really rate Petty. A potential A grader. Before Jordon elevated i thought he was our best young player to come back into our side this season.

Its actually pretty good timing in terms of the tigers' game.

Petty will have a game to get up to AFL speed against a relatively weak forward line and set himself for the tigers. I reckon he'll go to Riewoldt as he has the mobility to cover him. Hard job but as i say he will set himself and being a night game the likely slippery conditions will help his cause.

And Thomo will take that whiner, Lynch. If he can handle Hawkins - who must the be the strongest one one one player in the AFL - he can manage Lynch.

Yeah, I disagree that Petty is a 1v1 player. In his under 18 year, he was decidedly an intercept defender IMO. A Lever clone, but I suppose maybe he's developed into a 1v1 player since.

I hope you're right about those match ups. At least he comes into a team that is high on confidence. That should help.

That's interesting that he was an intercept defender in the lever mould as a junior. In the handful of games he has played with us that has not really been his go.

I wonder if that's because, whilst all defenders need to be able to take intercept marks (either by zoning off or one on one) you can really only have the one pure intercept player in a defensive unit. And we have Lever. So maybe the club have developed him to be more a one on one defender?

Do you (or anyone else) have bead on what role he has been playing in the VFL practice games ie intercept or lock down?

Not sure if exact role. I think like most tall defenders he would have to have trained to build his 1v1 ability while peeling off his man much like May does to intercept when needed. In Tomlinson's SEN interview on Monday he noted how even though he's still a slighter looking tall that Petty is super strong. He's the perfect option to backfill May. I hope he can come in and just half as many contests as he can this week to free up Lever and allow Tomlinson to body up their strongest tall.

Side note. Lever was incredible in that last game. He has most definitely improved his body work. I know he isn't taking the oppo's no.1 biggest forward but he is rarely losing contests this season against some bigger bodies still.

I heard that interview with Thommo. He said the boys call him farm strong (at first I thought he meant they call him Farmstrong ie like a nick name)

Depressing news.
This thread might be brightened up if some alliteration was worked into it. I say we change it to 'May May Miss a Month'.

Or the more depressing:

Disappointed by the injury.  Liked the way Lever stepped up, and the way that Brayshaw dropped back to be the key distributor and to fill the hole.

Can see Petty cutting his teeth in this back 7 for a few weeks - the big test will be the Richmond Whinge brigade in the near term.

gut feel - May pushes to play against the Tiges

I'd be very surprised if this were the case given that it is an eye injury and the conservatism of the medical staff in regards to injuries.

I'd be more confident if ANZAC day fell mid-week after the the weekend it's actually scheduled this year.

I'm just going by the Burgess injury video. The way he made it out was that the eye injury was pretty minor and the main injury was the concussion. The Tigers game is 13 days after the Geelong game so he'd be able to play under the protocols

Maybe i'm delusional!!

I don’t quite get the comment about the Weed and BBB getting through the VFL unscathed and then still having their names on the injured list with “1 week” and “1 to 2 weeks” respectively. If that applies, surely you’re not going to play either AFL or VFL?

They are both playing and therefore should not be on the injury list, not sure whats going on there.

No way May plays against Richmond if they've quoted 2-4 weeks.

Hopefully he'll be back for the Sydney game which will be a massive one.

It's a valid point @Bring-Back-Powell - essentially, which games can you/should you choose to drop.

Richmond feels apt

perhaps the Bulldogs - though I think we can match them

not Port

definitely not Sydney...

Actually, 4-0 - we can beat anyone - including delusional dreams of smashing WC in Perth...remember the time that TMAC?.... :)

I don't I'm afraid. Looking forward to seeing how he goes.

There’s a clarification on Twitter from Melbourne Footy:-

Clarification: Sam Weideman and Ben Brown simply need match fitness now, hence why they're not available for Melbourne but are available for Casey.

It's interesting that despite it sounding like Brown came through the Casey game better that Weid is the one that's categorised as 1 week and Brown is 1-2 weeks. Perhaps the body of work that Weid managed to get through over the pre-season is what is standing him in better stead, but for me if Brown gets through this next week well then get him in for Richmond. If Weid plays a belter, does he come back in as well or would we expect a couple of weeks of solid form?

I think May would love to push himself forward for the Tigers but it should always be up to the medico's and he shouldn't play unless his eye has been allowed to properly recover. I can't imagine him getting to play ANZAC weekend, maybe North game, but surely we do what we can to make sure he's good for the Swans.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
