Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I think it is about toughness and presence.

Would love to see him make physical contact and time his leads as he pushes off his opponent or just out bustle them.

I think he tries to off foot them to make separation but his acceleration or deception is not good enough.

Wish he would also crash some packs.

Time for him to impose himself in there.

The Weid will learn something out of the great man. JB has the knowhow and will definitely give him some vital tips and strategies

Lets hope this could be the making of the Weid,  He certainly has the talent.

The assistance would be very useful but there is some hesitancy on the Weed's learning and onfield execution of advisories. In a good season's performance, the Weed clunks a few marks and goals. He should be clunking a much larger amount of positive performances by this stage. One can be wrong and I certainly hope that my scepticism of his proven value is way off the mark.

I rate your footy acumen Deespencer but with Weideman you seem to be able to see things in his game that I’m unable to.
The recruitment of Brown you were dead against and went as far to say it will send Weideman back to the VFL.
If it’s only a couple of uncontested grabs and half a goal between becoming one of the best forwards or battling at Casey - what am I missing?

The issue I have with Brown and Weid is about fit. 2 big talls who don’t offer a lot of possessions and defensive effort. Jackson complements either of them individually. But alone they have value.

Brown’s value is obvious as a 60 goal forward. Weid’s 2020 apart from Cairns he crashed packs, kicked goals at a decent clip and took strong marks. He was a solid afl player and the best and fairest reflected that, with a couple more touches he’d be a very good afl player. After that it’s a matter of fit with Brown as above.

The lack of reliable second option meant he had to be up the ground, and the game plan to get goal side for long bombs to the square left him sprinting deep.

The Jackson - Weid combo worked briefly before Jacko went down. Personally I’d rather stick with that but the Brown-Weid combo should be able to produce similar results.

But part of that is Weid finding easy ball when he’s up the ground or even leading inside 50. Add a couple of uncontested marks each game and another half a goal a week and he’s right up with the best forwards.

I liked the Jackson - Weid combo...a pity Jackson went down as a bit more time could have cemented that pairing without the need to chase Brown.

We played some good footy when those 2 were left as the keys.

As an aside, I wonder how much influence the CEO had in us chasing Brown? He seemed pretty keen on us chasing a key forward.

Just a thought...

JB a great player of the game and  a triple premiership  player in the positions that the Weid is trying to make it in. 24 yo now not the teenager in his first season has had success in finals playing in the forward line before.

I believe JB'S knowhow might be the key to unlocking his talents. Will be watching him growing in confidence in 2021 and beyond and with much interest.

I thought he was more likely to be first to the ball drop area and then he gets crashed into.

Good that he could usually bring the ball down infront.

I like his goal kicking routine and  hands are getting better at marking. Would like to see his arms more forward of his head so becomes more difficult to spoil.

Probably won't peak for another season or two as he hasn't built enough strength into his body yet. He is still too easily bodied out of contests. But with three tall options and some smarts around playing decoy and sheparding for one another and leading patterns he can definitely be part of a functioning forward line.

As for Brown he was an Apex predator in the classic full forward role of Carey and Lockett. Weids is not an Apex personality, he is more similar in personality to a Matthew Lloyd. Lloyd was under a master coach. Weids desperately needs good coaching.

RJay I don't  for one minute think that The Jackson injury was the catalyst for recruiting BBB.

Blind  Harry Can see we need a mature "man" with a good record to lead our forward line and Ben or another forward was always the trade method the Club Needed to pursue.

Weid and Jacko will learn and prosper from Ben ( and Johnathon Brown also) but all our forwards including our latest 3 draftees Bowery Laurie and Rosman are part of our most needed successful part of the Dees in 2021 and beyond. I have no idea if all will gel together but I believe such is the group of Coaches now that This success  will be achieved.

That Ben and Sam appear similar should nit be an issue if they play their part in the plan for  our goal scoring To lead our attack in 2021 we should all Work  as a group to get that ball Between the Goals for majors.

2021 is going to be a season  like no other to enjoy a left over  mood A d Montb assistance

I didn't say it was the catalyst.

So is Browny actually mentoring Sam, or did they just have a one off chat?

Club has actively been trying to get Brown involved in some way for a few months, at one stage the rumour was a board position was on offer. Fingers crossed this is a hint/step towards more official involvement from him.

I like the sound of that. Good to see the club thinking outside the box and bringing in top talent in different capacities.

He (Weideman) did need some work and as much as i hate to but i think Brownie having a little bit of ear massage from Roos and Lyon contributed to this effort getting a gig.

Are we reading too much into this?

All we know publicly is what Sam said - ie he rang JB and had a chat with him. Saying that Sam is being mentored by JB is a bit over the top at this stage I would have thought - and heaven knows where the “ear massage from Roos and Lyon contributed to (JB) getting a gig” came from.

The fact that the video was essentially about back yard cricket, with a (MFC) worthy football statement thrown in as an aside, would seem to highlight what the media found as more news worthy.

I rate Sam, and would welcome him seeking JB or Carey or Lyon as a mentor as good news, but I just don’t want to jump the gun on this item just yet.

Brown was never going to be on the Board of the MFC. One of the more bizarre suggestions I've ever heard. I'm not sure many understand the varieties of skill-sets required to cover the board members responsibilities. And we now have Brad Green in place to cover the footy experience and knowledge portfolio. Brown would have been a fish out of water and lasted one term. Best not.

Happy to see Brown in a support role with the forwards perhaps as a part-time assistant. He would be a great asset.

So you're happy with Brad Green on the board, presumably because he's ex-Melbourne, but you find it a 'bizarre suggestion' that MFC would look to recruit a 3x Premiership, 2x All-Australian, 2x Best Captain, 3x Most Courageous, Victorian Captain and Hall Of Famer for a spot?

I'm not sure many understand how AFL clubs are approaching football departments for 2021 yet. There will be plenty of innovation going on in getting people involved, this is one way it can potentially happen.

For goodness sake. You're either wet behind the ears or simply ignorant.

It's not about "football departments". Do you have any basic understanding of the differences, responsibilities and roles of the AFL club board members versus the quite separate responsibilities of the football department? Your reply clearly demonstrates that you don't.

And yes, I'm happy with Brad on the board and Brown assisting our forwards if that eventuates.

Pert has been a player and a CEO, never a coach or football manager as far as I know, so I am concerned when he gets involved in footy his opinions will be framed by his playing experience. And he played when key forwards were vital which is different to how footy is played now. When you add in the misadventures of the Collingwood football department during his time there it doesn't fill me with confidence.

I guess he has picked Richo and given him the chance to take the reigns now. Demonland opinion has soured on him but he's an experienced football person who did far better than others would've with what he was given at the Saints, let's hope he's making the right calls.

Happy to discuss the point without the need for insults Bob.

Stating you're happy with Brad Green on the board but not Brown shows perhaps we have very different interpretations of what is handy knowledge and experience in such a position. I'm glad Green is there as it means we have an actual football person sitting, but I'd take Brown's premierships, leadership and accolades above Green's any day of the week.

The other part of your post shows you may have not understood mine. If you've paid attention to the offseason moves at various clubs you may have noticed that given the reduction to football departments clubs are already being quite innovative in how they structure for 2021 and beyond. Versatility and multi-faceted roles are going to be the order of the day. This could very well mean having people assist the football department at times even though their role isn't officially in that area.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
