Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

It could be what they asked for and being GF'ists requests get granted.  And in a way it doesn't matter when they play there they will win.

Just like Richmond had a long run of games at the G in the latter rounds in recent years.  Being GF or premiers helps persuade the AFL on numerous fixture benefits.

On the positve side for us, seven of our first 9 games are in Melbourne (6 at the G, of which 5 are Home games, and 1 is at Marvel).  I'm guessing lots of early Melbourne games is what the club asked for to get fans attending games (gate revenue) and to sell memberships in the early rounds.  That early revenue will be important to us.

It's often who you play in those home games.

Having Freo then say Suns  GWS then Crows  Would not  be a membership selling draw BUT mst assist in getting crowds vs Big Vic Clubs  therafter.

But having Gerlong Tigers and Blues early on can boost membership figures as long as we are not being thrashed and showing form and wins, as more fans go to those games!

When did Carlton last make finals?

2013.

They have the longest finals drought outside of Gold Coast.

On their website they've said they had an average free-to-air audience in 2020 of nearly 600,000. No idea what that figure is for us but will be the reason they get two Thursday nights to open the year.

There is no fairness, though, in them only having 5 interstate trips and the remaining 17 games all in Melbourne.

Carlton v Rich has been a terrible site over the last how ever many years, I don't know why they continue with it.

Other than that Cairns is still a possibility, what we've seen in Sydney this week shows us that this thing can turn very quickly again and teams will have to get out of dodge quickly to other venues.

Got nothing to do with it !!!

If  you perform in a year like 2018 then you deserve Friday night and other FTA opportunities.

Shouldnt be penalised forever we also  have finished ahead of many teams in 2017 and 2020.

We got Friday night games in 2019 on the back of finals. One of them against Sydney in 2019 was considered one of the worst games of the season.

In the original 2020 fixture before COVID hit we received 3 Friday night games, even on the back of a terrible season.

We were also awarded a prime time Thursday night game against Port this year on the back of a couple of promising weeks in the NSW hub, and proceeded to stuff it up badly...and I mean really badly and spoilt the viewing of everyone bar a Port supporter.

The AFL likely hasn't forgotten about that debacle when fixturing the first 6 weeks.

The bottom line is we can't be trusted on the big stage - by our supporters, the general TV viewer and the networks.

Sorry if that sounds harsh.

Importantly we haven't been shafted by the AFL in terms of the home games against Richmond and Collingwood.

These are huge earners for the club, as the home side.  Post covid ( let's hope it has been suppressed by then) it is important that we get back on our feet financially.

It's a real shame AFL didn't take the opportunity to split these so we get one a year instead of both every two years which is so much harder to manage from a cashflow point of view.

It's a mixed blessing getting both next year which is looking very much like crowds will still have to be limited so while we get them next year they will be worth a lot less. But of course better than losing them all together which was also quite possible given the way the AFL treats us.

They were gifted a spot in the finals that year because of Essendrug's suspension

Maybe I missed it but it doesn't look like there will be another one of those so called 'football frenzies', despite one being mooted. No sign of any teams having two or three game road trips either.

So is the fixture real???

is the AFL planning on turning the fixture on its head again? Just waiting for a couple of COVID cases and boom.....Dees hub in Cairns for 3 months

If it seems to good to be true it probably is!!!

I think it all depends on keeping rates of infection low as i don't think a vaccine roll-out will be sufficiently progressed to make a difference for this year. If there's a major outbreak, particularly in Melbourne, then it'll be hubs and a revised fixture I reckon.

Would be a shame if that turned out to be the case Gunna as it looks like a good fixture for us. As long as our international borders are secure in the short to medium term I think we'll be ok. They pretty much had the covid situation under control domestically until this issue with the airline crew driver contracting it. So much for NSW being the gold standard in covid prevention as they were also responsible for letting the german mother and daughter board a local flight to Melbourne undetected.

There will be covid outbreaks.  Probably on the East Coast so a 'footy frenzy' may depend on how 'trigger-happy' state premiers are in closing borders.  Right now they are very twitchy so it is likely we will see rescheduling of some sort.  Hopefully, it is just location rather than wholesale change to the fixture.

And, if there needs to be a hub it will be in Victoria so (selfishly) we can still get to see games.

And while I'm talking of 2021; may you all enjoy this festive season, say goodbye to a  horrid 2020 and look forward to good health and an exciting and successful year for our beloved Demons.  ???

Just to nitpick, but I'd rather we play Sydney at the SCG than the MCG . They really get up for their away games against us. Bad memories.

Of recent years they've been as bad at the SCG, as we've been on the MCG.

fair comment. I only have 1 memory of beating the Swans at the G. 1987 first semi final .

They have been far superior to us over recent times, but nonethelss they sure play the G well.

Its just avoiding the travl to the SCG thats a bonus probably.

Totally agree. Would rather play them at the SCG.

Sydney have given us sorts of problems over the years, especially at the MCG and we've beaten them just twice since 2006...Twice!!

We've beaten them once at the MCG between 2002 - 2020.

2018 they cost us a top 4 spot when we lost to them at the G.

2019 they beats us by 9 goals in that horrid Friday night game despite them being horribly out of form.

2020 they cost us a top 8 spot.

Does Longmire have a special desire to beat Melbourne more than any other side?? You would think so given they always rise to the occasion against us.

And P2J if the Cats slide as some predict then these 3 teams would be the first taking their place!

easch one could nail the Cats coffin week by week at their fortress and the AFL would look good I would  presume.

No JL doesn't but what he brings is an organised game plan of a decades success snd with young players who stick to it. ( rather like in Cairns and with Freo foing the same thing) against our
mo game plan and disjointed vs wind approach which resulted in disaster.

They don't (Swans) build up fir us they know if they can get good use of theball their plan will outshine our haphazard and inconsistent game plan and give success, year after year, in fact from 2006 which nearly every year they have made Finsls snd we have once!!!!

It's not rocket science BBP.

Given our chance and we stuffed it up vs Port and I had to sit through every miserable moment!!

But win 3/3 or 4/2 in The  first 6 rounds and beat say GWS and Cats then Frid night/s May be back on the agenda!!

Its like the stock market or property market. There will be a downturn but difficult to predict exactly when but we will eventually be proven right.

They’ve gone all in for 2021 so I expect them to play finals. 2022 and beyond and I reckon even the most optimistic Geelong supporter will be worried.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
