Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Bringing in Choco William and Adem Yze is just massive.

Top 4 or else!

Overdue, so far overdue that as members and supporters, we must feel a little cheated to have sat in the wings of development with so many young'uns raring to go - and now, so many medium-termers so underdeveloped from the recent past - and so many longer-term players left (for what appears to be season after season) to absorb skills and tactics by game-time osmotic experience, good or bad. Never complete.

Wonderful news and a turn-around for the better - we have the personnel and the adaptability, at last.

Goodwin just got thrown the best life-preserver he could have hoped for.

Agreed about life-support for Goodwin but we all know under the surface that he just is not the Coach we need. These two appointments (Ooze and Chocko) - and the duality of skills and experience in such a role are critical to improving our players and game outcomes. Absolutely delighted that this will take place in 2021.

What a superb if not master stroke coaching appointment. He has known both Richardson and Goody for many years.A brilliant teacher. He will improve this side dramatically. Now, we need someone like a Silvagni to cover the loss of Mahoney whom I believe after 13 years was the right move to go....it will be interesting to see whom replaces him tonight....Pert or Richardson or Goody himself. Now to pick up a couple of ripper kids tonight will make a great Xmas for all Dee supporters .

I think we already have enough GWS players.

I love the fact that Williams has been trying to land a role at Melbourne for what appears to be 3 years now and has finally got it. He clearly see's something in us and wants to be part of our success! The same can be said for Green and Yze, they all want to be at the club and will give their all to see us finally win our 13th cup. No doubt about it, these next 5 years we will be right in contention and hopefully we can do a Richmond win 3 very long overdue Premierships.

I wonder how open Goody will be to getting input from him? 2 good footy brains have walked into the building.

Brilliant appointment. You make an interesting observation too re Goodwin.

Do you reckon Williams won't be forthcoming on views and feedback etc.

I doubt it, which is why the appt. is a good one.

Plus a great developer of talent.

Well done to Pert, or whomever drove this deal.

I see the framework for a great succession plan- if needed.

Yze first senior gig, with Choco offeering wisdom and experience as needed as well as ratcheting up talent developemnt big time

Goodwin simply has to change his ways, it happened with Buckley, Thompson and even Hardwick to a degree. He has to let go of a few things, his single minded attitude on some match tactics and game style, which is hard  as he is the coach and its his ship but, that why you employ assistant coaches and have experienced people like Richo and now Williams around you..

If he does, then he will develop and get better results, if he doesn't then he will pay the price and be gone sooner rather than later

This is a terrible take.

You're essentially saying that attracting good people is an indication of failure and that trying to bring in good people is an indication of weakness. Should we be not trying to attract good people?

You're just trying to shoehorn this information into your own personal judgement of Goodwin.

Anyway, I'm very happy with the appointment. He's different from most, but he's a great teacher and an extremely knowledgeable football person.

What Mark "Chocko" Williams provides is an Old School, Ballsy teacher with many passionate and intricate insights to the modern game.

With now such a strong team around Goody and the inevitable shuffles of match day line coaches this has me thinking positively, very positively!

Why is there so much love for this bloke?

I feel like he’s been telling the Dusty story to anyone who’ll listen for 6 years. I also think he benefits greatly from an association with Richmond when he actually wasn’t there when they came good.

It’s very hard to tell from the outside what impact player development roles have. He might be amazing, or maybe Dustin Martin, the 3rd pick in the AFL draft, was always going to be a great footballer. Hope to be proven wrong, just find it really interesting that theres such a lovefest for him in such a nondescript role. Maybe I missed something?

Well he coached Port to their only flag, ending the Brisbane Lions dynasty in the process.

Also took them to another GF... the last coach to take the Demons into two Grand Finals was Norm Smith.

I'm with you all the way on this PF. Timing is good because there are limited coaching positions around due to Covid effects

Club has recognised  Goodwins' weaknesses and are addressing them in a positive way. Shame its taken so long- 2 wasted years.

Its all up to Goodwin to respond

Very true.  If Goodwin doesn't change then nothing will change next year.

I agree o_d , but I feel certain that Goodwin would have received that message loud and clear from within the four walls of the MFC.  If not, the review did not go far enough!

Further reflection; two things that make me confident that Williams is an ideal choice.

1. At Port he was able to keep the team united and motivated and playing league-best football for consecutive seasons despite heartbreaking finals experiences. That stability of effort is priceless and something crucially missing from our culture.

2. At about the time Richmond recruited him I was looking over their B&F lists to confirm a hunch that they had barely had any movement or new arrivals in the better half of their list for some five years or more. Shortly after his arrival there was a surge of contribution from previously minor young players who stepped up to consistent quality AFL standard and made appearances in the club's top ten. Lifting that 'pawns' group is another crucial part that we are missing from our list and culture.

Somewhere along the way the MFC leaders have set about rationally assessing what we need and then determining how to get it. People decry the Lever trade but if nothing else it marks a turning point where the club began to pursue greatness instead of minimizing risk.

Who needs an external review when you have people internally who know what they are doing? A number of shrewd moves in and out and we are in a very good position off field. And importantly, all the key posts have remained stable so we can carry out the plan.

Nice work, MFC

That's your view. I think mine is a realistic take.

I'd like to see a list of the people that we have 'attracted' to support Goodwin that have been jettisoned in the past 4 years. By your reckoning this should have resulted in success I presume? It's a long list particularly when many of those have been shuffled around in multiple roles to try and find the right combo.

We have changed virtually every role except the senior coach. You can keep changing the surrounding personnel but at what point do you reach the conclusion I have come to that the bloke acting as senior coach is not the answer?

Great appointment.

Amongst numerous areas for improvement, suspect we’ll now finally see the end of Oliver’s 1 metre or less handballs that just build pressure and instead start clearing the ball from congestion, the end of Gawn thinking he can kick and instead see more handballs to those who can, the end of Viney thinking he’s a foot taller/20 kg’s heavier so he’ll now give the ball off rather than fruitlessly try to break tackles, and the development of Hunt to be the winger he always should have been.

We also have a solid Plan B if Goody can’t deliver in the first half of next season.

Happy days.

I would be happy if we had a consistent game plan before games that players understood.

A game plan that suits our list is what Pert has asked of Goodwin.  Sure hope he delivers.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
