Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Not unexpected, as I said on the rumour only thread, fairly well known he'd applied for the Essendon position and who could blame him when the position was vacant and our FD was under review.

As others have said 13 years is a long time and despite being maligned on here by posters (many of whom also question Taylor) I think he has performed well in his roll.

Thanks for your service Josh

Agree PSD, He had to guide us through some very difficult times with a team that was struggling to be VFL standard.

In my view he has assembled a fairly good list.

On the down side he was one of a team that got Goodwin in when Roos did not initially like the idea.

There is a story there for another time.

All those who selected Goodwin have now left the building. Hmm

Thanks for what. What did he do that he was not well paid for. Rather thank a property steward than a paid official who achieved nothing special.

From Pert to Roos to Mahoney to Gawn to JT to Clarry.  All are paid but I have to say thanks for their contribution to MFC.  I think Neeld is someone though that I probably wouldn’t give a “thanks” !!!!

3 years was not enough time to finish what he started. He should have stayed for 5.

And he lumbered us with Goodwin.

Fair point. Thanks.  Its as if possibly he couldn't get Dew so opted out of the selection process. He definitely didn't leave Goodwin with any upskilling give Roos strategy pedigree. (He sort of invented the stoppage pressure game) Or so demetriou said.

From what I observed Mahoney was a quality person that Jackson had groomed to be his replacement.  Bartlett and Jackson didn't see eye to eye and so when Jackson left, he brought in one of his mates (Pert) rather than someone who had been mentored by Jackson.

There's more than one way to get from A to B so it doesn't mean this is a terrible thing - Mahoney has been here a long time.  But given what Jackson was able to do, I would have felt better had his choice got the gig rather than Pert.  Once that decision was made, it was going to be hard for Mahoney to stay on long term.

I don't feel particularly confident with Richo or Pert - especially when you look at where they've been and how they present in the media - but with all of this I'm only seeing the tip of the iceberg and i hope to god (or the devil ?) they prove me wrong!

  • Demonland changed the title to Farewell Josh Mahoney

No doubt his CV would look impressive and his varying highs and lows would stand him in good stead for where the Bombers are at.

But, he was overlooked by Jackson and then had Pert split his responsibilities with Richo after a couple if poor seasons.

You can look at it a myriad of ways - good or bad - but in my opinion we are needing some fresh FD people. I don't expect the club to hand it all over to Richardson now. I expect them to go out find a bloody good operator who's worked in the 'window' we're currently in!

I really liked Mahoney.

Represented the club with aplomb, when he spoke, you listened because he'd only speak when there was something worth saying.

I won't pretend to know what he was like internally, but externally he did us really, really proud IMO

Couldn't agree more Purple 77, you summed him up much better than I could. I will miss having him in charge of our football department and I am really sorry that he will help EFC get their act back together. GGGrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tiger mate of mine who is very bullish on the Demons in 2021 said this is the last piece of the puzzle for us.

Tigers lost Dan Richardson to bombers in 2017, and look what happened for them!

Ok so when I told the membership department (after the Freo loss) that I am cancelling my auto-renew and only signing on for next year if there were some decent changes made in the coaching space and ideally Mahoney gone as well, I didn't actually think that would occur.

Looks like I'm calling tomorrow and signing up for 2021 ?

You’d better take out a Redlegs at least coach! ?

Thank you Josh Mahoney! Thank you for your service to the might Melbourne Football Club. You’ve served us for a long time and really progressed your career in that time, especially considering the basket case we were during a lot of that time. Time will tell if you helped lay the ground work and build the walls to the premiership house but I think you’ve done a good job and respect the time you’ve put in to help make us great again.

ps I hope you’re bloody terrible at ESS and they struggle for years to come, all the best.

Mahoney help to rebuild the club and left it in good nick regardless of where we have finish in the last 2 years. Because of Josh we now have a talented list that in time will hopefully get to achieve the ultimate. In short.

Thanks Josh Mahoney for helping our great club and being part of it for 13 years. You leave us for another challenge however you will never be forgotten for your input. IMV you are a Demon for life.

Dodoro is GM List and Recruiting ie the job Mahoney vacates at Melbourne (Mahoney had a bunch of other things as well).

Mahoney will be GM Football ie the job Richardson has at Melbourne.

As GM's they will be peers reporting to the CEO.

Not sure this is either good or bad. I suppose you just have to hope that Pert and Bartlett know what they are doing. Jackson wanted him to be our next CEO. 2018 is certainly long time ago for everyone.

jackson pushed for him as ceo only after failing to attract a successor with matching experience

Can we keep Mahoney and give them Pert instead?

[censored]

Pert has just rubber stamped one of the Top development coaches in the AFL, who has runs on the Board.

IOW he has recruited a top football person to go with Yze In football as well as hired a fitness guru of world standard and a highly regarded assistant.

If Perth not doing his job then I don't know who is???

Josh Mahoney will leave a legacy and it could well be a flag after his tireless draft and recruiting efforts. Again tomorrow night JT will have 3 to 4 good Chances to give us another group of youngsters to make a name fir themselves and be a part of history at our great Club

Thank  you Josh and good luck.

Just my opinion, but he deserves more respect than he gets.

Been through some five senior coaches and multiple boards/executives and none of them moved to fire him or appeared to openly clash with him.  That's as much evidence as can be gathered from the outside.

Interesting that he's gone to a club which is basically in about the same mood and condition as Melbourne was when he started with us. Good luck!

Probably recommended him to Essendon connections for the job, certainly number 1 referee

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
