Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Farewell Oscar McDonald

Dazzle, they recruited Lever who is terrific if he doesn’t have an opponent. In his great year at Adelaide they played a seven man backline .Just listen to Mick Malthouse on that topic

Plays the role exceptionally well. There was a reason he was named in the All Australian squad in just his 3rd year of AFL footy.

I expect him to go close this year going by his pre season form.

The only slight adjustment I'd personally make to our backline is I'd have Harrison Petty instead of Tomlinson.  Now there's a kid who's got enormous potential.

If his second goal was not under pressure , I’ve never seen one

Physical pressure. Tacklers coming at you, no time and space. He rolled off the mark as is allowed these days with plenty of time and space. I wasn't referring to the mental pressure but it was also a bit of a free hit from that far out, and he might've just been going for the square anyway.

They'd often run a spare man off the square at stoppages but I can't ever recall Adelaide playing 7 defenders. Their midfield worked really hard back then. Sloane particularly was a demon and they had great forward pressure with Betts and Cameron. Lever took the 3rd tall which was often a ruckman or some other ordinary player and zoned off, but it wasn't 7 down back. They also let the half forward go up to stoppages which is what most teams did, because the Crows had Richie Douglas as their high half forward coming up to stoppages and he was elite in that role.

The biggest adjustment for Lever when coming to us was whether we played him as the 2nd or 3rd tall we liked to press really high up the ground. We've changed since last year to keep our backline deeper which is more like the Crows would do. That keeps the game in front of Lever more and lets come forward to mark rather than having him press really high and play in front.

We used to sing a fun and funny song about Oscar McDonald... was a shame when he left.

mind you, Farmer, we’re a better team for it, despite us all loving Oscars cute puppy dog looks.

Went to the tune of “Frosty the snowman... he’s a ...”, had to adapt after Frosty was moved on.

There is a steady stream of players who leave the club each year, whether it be their choice or the club’s choice.

And, of them, there are some players whom you wish all the best - you kind of want to see them do well following their departure from the MFC, even if it is with another AFL club.

Oscar McDonald is in this category. Good luck to the young man - he strikes me as a quality individual.

Let’s be better than to simply run him down, he was a devoted Demon - wish him luck, if only to make you look better as a human.

Man I always rated OMac so highly, Keilty used to tell me he was one of the hardest blokes to match up on during training. Always used to really upset me to see him being s**t on by our supporter base

But watching him tonight filled me with a lot of joy, as well as some anger about how our club treated him

Go well Oscar and I hope you have a dominant year

I feel like people get obsessed with the “oh he’s great now we should have kept him”. Dunn is a great example of a player who had run his race with us but a change of location gave his career new life. Delisting Oscar was the right decision, it didn’t mean he was useless or unworthy of being an AFL player it just meant for us he wasn’t going to fill our needs and make us better.

We all should chill and forget about trying to compare him with Daw, they’re different players.

The day we signed Daw (who I like) is the same day Carlton signed McDonald.

Therefore, the question is which of the two would you prefer?

Any player who can play a half of AFL footy and manage a dozen or so disposals, a few tackles, a few marks and a couple of goals is by definition AFL standard.

Possibly but his first goal was a gift via a down field free kick where he was easily out positioned by his opponent

the second one was the result of a wayward kick but both his shots at goal resulted in full value so he did his job well

Hopefully Oscar manages more games and prolongs his career he seems like a nice fella and popular with his teammates

I’m still very much of the view that his delisting was in his and the clubs best interests

At CHF we may see more of his mobility and versatility which wasn’t so much apparent as the opposition generally kicked the ball long to his opponent and he had to stick to his man.

This is what I said about him a couple of weeks ago. We should have played him CHF after his brother got injured and lost form. Poorly managed by the club as with many other players.

Ironic how Goody had 4 years to develop Omac and we got barely anything out of him except for an impressive 2018 season, and yet 3 months with another club and Omac showed more in one game than I ever saw at the MFC. He was hard tonight, tackled and chased and presented as a good tall forward who didn't look all that slow IMO whilst kicking two snags.

Goodwin's days (games) are numbered and just making finals is not good enough. He has an elite list, if he can't do something with them, then we need someone who can.

Typical Goodwin. Never creative enough to think about putting Oscar forward. I was saying that Oscar McDonald should've been delisted years ago but if he's going to play, play him forward where he doesn't have to make decisions and his poor decisions don't cost us goals. Goodwin doesn't have a clue!

There’s people in this thread like me not being overly complimentary of Oscar. Maybe we’re bad people, but I feel like we’re being honest.

So are those honestly wishing him luck.

Those who are using this thread to bash Goodwin are dead set kidding themselves.

The pathological attacks on Goodwin are over the top. Oscar, well done on one half of footy, you had a couple of good halves of footy at the Dees, where ironically Goody was accused of playing favourites with you and gifting you games. Goodwin and the entire coaching staff backed Oscar in and developed  him into the player he is today, doing 1 preseason at another club isn’t magic.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
