Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Good result for us overall. There must be a plan being hatched. I would say draft night is likely to see a lot of pick trading depending on bids etc.

Likely to see players slipping due to lack of exposure etc. SOS on AFL radio said next years draft will be deep. Late developers like Bont and Oliver would be overlooked in a draft like this. I think clubs only have to take one player this draft. So i expect a few will slip.

I expect T Mc will be our swingman depth player to cover for injuries to talls Back and /Fwd

I'm worried about our other wing and our lack of small forwards. I hope we can sort this during the draft.

There are various ways we can still get them:

  • Main Draft/Rookie Draft next month
  • From DFA's yet to be announced.
  • The PSSP draft which is open until mid March (if club has a list spot).  We took Lockhart, Brown and Bennell on this basis.  No draft picks needed.  Player can nominate their club.
  • 'Mid-Season Drafts' becomes A Monthly Draft.

We may not get the best available but if the club thinks we can't develop someone we have there will be plenty of chances to get the 'role' player for those two positions.

Because of smaller list sizes there will be a lot less players drafted so a lot of good players will miss out.

I think we will keep at least one list spot open for such opportunities.  I wouldn't be surprised if someone we like in the draft misses out we invite them to train with us (ala Bennell) before committing.

Yes was Tom but all contract offers have not  been made yet due to the list no's from AFL. Not available.

Ned Guy Collingwood list manager was just on fox and my god he is in dreamland.

He said something like and I  paraphrasing:

-we want our list to get better and now we have 2 first round picks

-getting rid of the 3 players was NOT related to salary cap

-Trelor move was instigated when his Mrs go a job in qld otherwise it wouldn’t have been brought up

-Stephenson was keen to get to the Roos

Question asked -Why are u subsidising ur players to go to other clubs? Answer we won’t discuss player specific contracts.

Questions asked -You want to improve ur list but are getting rid of 3 players in ur best 22. How does this improve ur list? Answer we have 2 first round picks which we believe will improve our list.

It was bloody hilarious and the excuses for getting rid of the players was not believable at all.

He really had no idea how to spin it.

He probably can't come out and say they stuffed their salary cap badly and therefore had to go the fire sale route, but it left him with nowhere to go.  Good on him for sticking his head up, but he got it shot off in the end.

I have no concerns with this bit, but each to their own. I'm wrapt with Brown. Will make us a considerably better football side IMO.

What are people's thoughts on trading out our 2021 1st round? Given that seemed to be most people's no-go zone.

I have no opinion other than: We just await potential further pick swaps, new players form over 1-3 years and our collective form to judge it in its entirety.

When I saw the deal, I was initially surprised that we had given it up, but what we've seen time and time again is that Josh Mahoney knows how to get us into the first round if that's what he thinks we need. Hypothetically, he could keep trading our future 1st every trade period to improve our draft position for the present year.

I think it also shows that he really rates our list and would rather invest in our 2021 season than waiting another year for improvement. We saw this year how much top end talent can make an impact (not just with Jackson, Pickett and Rivers but with Rowell, Anderson, Serong, etc. elsewhere) so I think it's the right call. Finishing 9th this year also probably gives us a bit more confidence about our 2021 first draft pick falling after pick 10 and I like the club's optimism.

I agree with this, but it will get to the stage where clubs don't want to trade out of a strong draft anymore. Especially with the discounts for NGAs being removed. That could well be next year.

I have to agree that we did very well this trade period. I think we managed to do almost all that we wanted to do except for moving a couple of players on.

I do not mind that we have still got TMac on the list. he cannot be a bad as he was last season and he can serve as back up forward and in the ruck.

Expect us to upgrade Lockhart, take a DFA and Look to trade further up the draft.

My big take away from this trade period is that clubs need to invest much more in list management and contract structures or face a Pies future.

I like the way Josh did his work.

Any word on Jordan or any other OOC players?

Any ideas of the DFAs we might look at?

Cheers

PS love your work @CHF thanks for the info

Not heard anything to date re Jordan and OOC players or possible DFA's.

I think we might let the dust settle on the trade period and see what the future might hold re list numbers.

Personally, I would look at contracts for Jordan and possibly Bedford ( I am not sold on him) and OMac on to the Rookie list. Lockhart moved from Rookie list to main list, M Brown not offered a contract and no idea what to do re Chandler.

I was hoping for another small pressure forward in the Higgins mould as it is a glaring flaw in our game.

A Phillips type Winger would have been icing on the cake. Either type of player would have capped of an already shrewd trade period for the Dees.

Kudos to Mahoney and Co.

It's interesting, because if you look at the Hawthorn premiership sides and now the Richmond premiership sides, they both had an abundance of small forwards. This suited their game styles.

Are we going to try something different? A bit more like West Coast 2018? Solidness from the back, ball winners in the midfield and potent talls with a small or two at their feet?

If we're looking to model our forward system on Richmond and Hawthorn, there's just no way we're going to do that with our current list. We needed to get 2 or 3 competent and consistent smalls if we were going to do that.

Pert signposted that Goodwin's job was to get the best out of the current list and I took that to mean we'd play our own system, rather than aping the aforementioned sides. What does Yze bring here? What has he said about our list so far?

Gawn, Oliver, Petracca, May, Viney and Langdon plus Lever at a stretch, are all top 150 players in the comp. It's Richmond-like prior to their breakthrough, so can Goodwin and the coaches devise a system that is built around this core that enables role players around them to take advantage of our elite midfield? This is the question.

Rock and a hard place. Had he said it was salary cap pressure, he's admitting he's stuffed up. He had to say it wasn't a fire sale and that they're trying to renew their list, which is patently laughable when they've given up 3 best 22 players to use 2 late first rounders.

I actually felt sorry for him. They really went him. Blood in the water type stuff.

Agree with you AF to a certain degree, i just feel we need a more flexible F50. I think we are banking on Spargo, Hunt and Kosi to go to another level in 2021.

I don’t want us to be a copycat club, its a sign of weakness and will not defeat a Richmond side in september.

I happy with our conducted business in trade week.

Happy days.

Collingwood will take a hit next year having lost 1 elite and 2 good players. But the bigger hit will be over the next few years when they realise they have lost the trust of the playing group. A gun player on a 5 year deal gets told to clear out his desk? a promising kid gets told to look for a trade with zero warning and ends up at the bottom team?!

won't be surprised if a few players look for a trade next year

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
