Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

While adding to our small forwards and outside midfielders are what we need from a list perspective, IMO we need to be selecting the best player available - even if that means we get a ruckman, key forward or inside midfielder. Free agency has shortened the period to build a list, so making sure you hit on your picks is more important than fulfilling needs.

Further, as much as I think it is a good strategy to borrow from the future picks, we should be willing to trade back to 2021 if the main targets on our draft board are gone. Particularly if we get a good return from someone who wants to move up the draft.

Assuming we keep picks 18, 19 and 28 I think it's likely we will pick best available with the first pick.

With 18 we'd go for the slider - if one of Perkins, Macrae, Cook, Nik Cox, Jack Carroll, etc manage to slip through

19 we'd probably look at any others that slipped through & otherwise get the best player available to fill the needs (wing, HFF, FP) with good skills and pace (ideally).  So maybe Isaiah Winder, Bailey Lawry.

It's going to be an exciting night!

I think it was a great move to get 18,19 28. Keeps us in the game. We can use our picks, trade up in this draft or trade back to the 2021 draft.

Never know who slips. Maybe we have  our eye on a couple of players. Maybe a club is desperate for a player at 18 or 19 and is willing to give up a 2021 1st rounder.

I think it's great that the MFC are keeping its options open with good picks.

i dont think its wise. i see us sliding to bottom 6. especially with goodwin being sacked by round 5 creating a bit of instability. The game against freo didnt give me much hope for next season

HERE IS MY LIKELY OPTIONS FOR 18,19.

(assume Macrae, Carroll and Perkins are gone)

Caleb Poulter- SA. WWT Eagles. tall 189cms ruck rover or half back flank. Great skilled creative left footer.  Sets up play and has that Pendlebury like time with the footy.  Needs the gym and perhaps work rate.

Brayden Cook -SA STH Adelaide.  smart creative half forward or wing. Good runner. Pace and endurance.  Loves a goal. Would start as a half forward or wing option.

Bailey Laurie - VIC. Oakleigh chargers.  Unfortunately didn’t see him in 2020 but his footy as an underaged in 2019 was superb. Saw him a game for Caulfield Grammar v Scotch in 2019 and he was the standout.  Good solid build. Evasive. Skilled. Smart. Loves a goal. He’d definitely be AFL ready with a good preseason.

Isiah Winder - WA. Peel Thunder. Had a really good 2020 to rise up in recruiters note pads.  Too good for Colts about 5-6 excellent games, he played 5 league matches and was not overwhelmed.  Creative and skilled. Loves to setup play or run. Pace. Yes he did 2.87 for 20 metre sprint. I’d like to see him kick the footy more because he has great skills. In JT’s sights ?????

Bump. I’m hoping that Isiah Winder will get fanatical Demonland support as our 2020 pick.

We got Trac in ‘14, Oliver in ‘15, Fritsch in ‘17, Jacko & Kozzzzy in 19.  Isiah is our 2020 gun.

What's the correct pronunciation of the surname? Is it like a window "winder" or a date on "tinder"?

Don't see it myself. Other than appearance, (size and hair) they strike me as quite different in playing style.

He reminds me of a player for us we took at 5 or 3, Colin Sylvia was the other, and then he went to Carlton and put us in for tanking. Laurie looks slow with those chunky legs but doesn't mean he can't play at the top level, but probably best suited inside mid which I'm not sure we're after.

I really liked the tape of Perkins, Where is he likely to go?

I reckon the opposite, go for needs at 18, then pick the best available slider at 19 ;)

Don't know if anyone has done this but interesting to look at what we gave up to get 18 & 19.

Basically it was next year's 1st rd + Preuss + 53 & next year's 3rd rounder

Final deal was Next year's 1st rounder + 25 + 68 + 69  (Think you can ignore the last 2.)

These were the deals to get 25 = 31 & 43. 31 was Preuss 43 = 53 & future 3rd rd.

Say we come 7th next year. We will have given up pick 12 in next year's draft Preuss 53 & around 50 in next year's draft.

I would say 53 in this year's draft is not going to be worth much. So if it's say dropping from next year's 12 to this year's 18 because there's a player we think is exactly what we need and we give up Preuss & 50 for 19 for the same reason or to combine them for a much higher pick, it doesn't look that bad.

so. do we think we will keep 18 and 19?

if so - who are the possibles?

or if not  - who could we get at the earlier pick?

Sorry if this has been discussed earlier

Stating the obvious but if we do go to the draft with our existing picks then you could assume that we've got our eye on 5 or 6 players that could be around 18,  19 & 28 mark

Or we could well trade some or all of the picks ... 4 clubs have multiple picks in the first round and we have dealt with GWS,  North & Essendon in recent times

There's talk that the Bombers might trade 6 & 8 for North's pick 2 and if that happened North might be able to trade 6 or 8 back to us

But I'm speculating of course ... we've probably made up our mind what we're going to do but late opportunities could present.

If we end up using these two picks I hope we look for outside run with some skill thrown in for at least one of the picks. The other I wouldn't mind us tacking a little gamble on someone with a bit of flair but some question marks around him.

I remember the first time I drove to Buller (May 2000 epic dump, snowed in overnight) my brother left me a note about the Tallarook-Yea back road.

He said "this road is windy, so be careful" and - without him having a mobile phone and calls costing 30c flagfall and a $1/minute (remember those days?!) so I could enquire further in order to dispel the ambiguity - I had no way of knowing.

So I was driving along in wicked dark and cold thinking "when is this windy wind going to blow in on this bloody windy road".

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.
