Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Swiss Cheese Demons by Matt Rendell

Rendell underwent his analysis of the Dees list.

I don’t think he is fully across our list but provided some interesting conversation.

Why Swiss Cheese? “Our list has holes through it”

1- “Their Kids under 22.  Jackson will be a star. Oliver yes. Rivers good. Weideman yes. Pickett will be a star. Sparrow showed a bit. Petty yes but hadn’t really played. Perhaps light on and need more kids”.

(imv yes - that what happens when you trade out for  May and Lever for 3x 1st rounders. But we seem just ok for youth and will get 1-2 good kids this year).

2. “Key defender - Steven May super year. Lever much better. Tomlinson ok.  Tmc and OMc to be out. Petty might be ok so need an extra key back “.

(imv agree as a plan B in case May gets an injury. Perhaps use a pick 63 on recycled tall back)

3. key forwards - “now ok with Ben Brown coming onboard. Weideman gets 2nd best defender is ok. Brown Weideman Jackson as 3 key talls”.

(yes no issue here and probably add in Mitch Brown as that plan B option)

4. Small forwards -“Pickett will be a star. Spargo. Bedford. Ok here”.

(imv another pacy small forward would be handy in event Pickett needs to be managed through the year. Perhaps Bedford in that role already)

5. Defensive run - “Salem but he needs more run. Hibberd, is he even still on the list, Rivers he’s a good one. Jetta minds the smalls. So need 1-2 more backline runners”.

(imv - agree - 1-2 half back/wing runners needed, and is a focus)

6 Tough Midfield inside “Viney, Oliver, Harmes, Brayshaw, Petracca, Jones and Sparrow.  All ok for inside mids”.

(absolutely agree)

7. Breaking midfield runners - “Langdon good but needs work on disposal. Perhaps needs a Treloar.  “

(Imv definitely the priority need. Rendell failed to mention our quest for Isaac Smith or potential to go for Tom Phillips)

8. Ruck “With Preuss leaving, Dees need backup behind Gawn. Jackson not ready. Yes Andrew Phillips would be ok, fill the need”.

(agree a plan B ruckman is needed just in case Maxy cops an injury or needs a break)

In the end the view was actually quite optimistic.  Rendell stated that as we just missed the final 8, he sees improvements and the stars in our midfield are still only in their early to mid 20s and heading into their prime.

SOS saw our two-way running as the key weakness and Damien Barrett saw our port delivery into the forward 50 as a key issue. In terms of game plan and execution, they are both correct.

The idea we lack youth is ridiculous.

We currently have the following players 22 or under on our list:

Luke Jackson

Charlie Spargo

Toby Bedord

James Jordon

Trent Rivers

Aaron Nietschke

Tom Sparrow

Harry Petty

Kysaiah Pickett

Kade Chandler

Austin Bradtke

That is 11 players 22 or under, or a quarter of the list.

Plus we will also likely add 3-4 in the draft this year, granted we may also lose 1 or 2 off the above list.

Yes. That was at start. He said he has a coffee regularly with Jason Taylor and that he would get a whack off JT for labeling us a Swiss Cheese list. Also started being concerned by our lack of youth.

But then he addressed how many good players we have and that Jacko, Pickett and Rivers were excellent.

At the end, I think the Swiss cheese label was not founded, like a Trump election fraud claim.

I can understand a lot of our strategy this year.
We now have a proven key forward and now we have to back our young kids that we chose, and get the utmost talent out of them.

That said i would be having a red hot crack at Jack Higgins

This guy only has a job in the media because he was willing to spill every possible detail of the machinations of his previous employer (Collingwood).

Not a smart move. He'll last another few months before that well of insight dries up and he's unemployable.

Anyway we're more like a Stilton.

Crumble easily.

Often stink.

Can sometimes be soft.

I am dusappoinred that we haven't gone for say Ohillips or Treloar or Stephenson or Polec.
Two if those would help markedly Our running and forward skills And depth.

All areIMO rest made players fro wing HF or outside mid running and better than most of our flankers and 2 Nd wingers o Th er than Langers.

And there is a fire sale really fir a couple.

Petty is such a crucial part of our KFp snd KbP otherwise Tommo and Smith ( if Tommy goes Or doesn't come up.

At least five of whom should be delisted immediately because they simply aren't up to it.

We have a major shortage of promising young midfielders and key position players, as a result of not taking enough first and round draft picks in the past five years..

Plus, only 2-3 on the list would likely play every week.

So you think all sides have multiple promising under 22 year olds?

We don't need youth, we need experience and ready made players to go to the next level.

I'm sick of going to the draft every year and waiting for players to develop and other sides win flags.

We've got a great core group of players who are on the younger side.

I always ask why people like Matt Rendell give opinions about football and seem to never win premierships when they are in charge of the recuiting at a club, they are experts who have never had success.

A friend of mine used to say an expert is a drip under pressure.

Our recuiting has always been poor due to these recuiting experts hired by the club who lack the forsight and imagination.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
