Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Right outa left Field ....set Smith up as a forward to crash packs and take the odd speccy! Totally Flawless Logic.... Oh and Weeds is like the Graham Bonnet song right now "Its all Over Now Baby Blue" probably one of WCW s most favourite songs I could imagine! And Ahhh also one of mine! No Doubt Uncle Bitter would be a "Warm Ride" Fan as well, but just pure conjecture!😁

Hey! Why drag me into this???
Anyways I don’t like either of those crappy songs. Except ‘Warm Ride’ when sampled by The Avalanches, an awesome Melbourne band.

I feel so bad for Weids. Every time he plays I will him to put in a great game - as most of us do - and I hate when he has yet another disappointing one. Last year I read somewhere that sometimes when he’s playing terribly, at halftime he’ll be in the rooms vomiting. This is heartbreaking. ☹️

Rubbish. At least BBB attacks that ball in marking contests, and makes some effort once it hits the ground. I suggest you watch the replay. Weid was not interested in making second efforts.

I saw him lay good follow up tackle at one stage. I think Weid is a very limited footballer, but I think this was just a very quiet game rather than a very poor one. I'm happy to watch the replay, although to me I can understand why tv coverage would make a quiet game look much worse

Agree WCW with the vomiting in rooms thing if true. Hnmm The Avalanches eh, might have to check them out!

We can debate the causes as much as we like, but Weed sadly will never be the player we need him to be (or the player he could be).

Is it confidence? Is it lack of application? Is it skill limitations? It could be some of it or all of it. But this year was the year he needed to push either one of BBB or Tomald out of the team, and it hasn’t happened.

It was admirable that he backed himself in when he re-signed for two more years. Career wise, it’s probably stuffed his market value. A move to Gold Coast, Collingwood or North would have been doable considering where those clubs were at. GC17 have Chol and Casboult functioning well (and King to come back). The Pies are flying and will be looking to recruit to win a flag. Does North want help for Zurhaar and Larkey? It’s a big if.

Weideman looks like a player who's confidence and belief are shot to pieces

I've never seen a player look more dejected after kicking a goal. Especially, a goal to give his team a near unassailable lead...in a big game...leading up to a premiership defence.

Weid is on record (circa 2020) talking about underperformance in 2019 being attributable to struggling to manage the weight of expectation that came after his 2018 finals series.

The view that a lack of desire explains his inadequate intensity are off the mark IMO. I imagine he's desperate to succeed - why wouldn't he be - and being unable to do so gives rise to negative emotions that further impairs performance. Reminds me of a batsmen in cricket suffering a form slump who then loses confidence and subsequently can barely hold a bat.

Think this has to be a major factor. IIRC a poster with good mail on here stated around mid-season that the club was looking to move him on at the end of the year. This is despite having a year to run on his contract, indicating the club has lost faith in him. Can't imagine he would be in a good head space, particularly as it looks like he has only been selected as a last resort. The pressure he must be placing on himself, to not only keep a spot in the team but stay at the club and save his career, must be immense.

Not going be too critical of his performance on Friday. it was dirty night for key forwards. He, Taberner and Lobb did bugger all in the conditions. I expect Weid would be much better against the pies if we don’t have a repeat of the rotten weather.

I don’t mean to start a war, but this version is not as good as Them’s. comparing Graham Bonnet’s voice to Van Morrison’s is not going to end well for Graham.

I will probably be enjoying some kind of jazz-cigarette this evening, and will be willing to write some kind of pointless thesis on the whole matter soon afterwards , if requested. 😉

Given your stated musical preferences, I'm not sure if they would be your cup of tea, PF.  This early song of theirs would be a good starting point.  If you like it, I'd recommend "Frontier Psychiatrist" as the next stepping stone.

Their style could be described as electronic and they make extensive use of samples.  In this song, they used something like 3,500 vinyl samples!

I have been one of his critics since early on. However it is now plainly obvious that he is not a senior level talent it is time to stop the bulling  and shaming on here. Sam would appear to be a nice guy and I am sure he is trying his best. It is unfortunately not enough. I feel sorry for him. Let's get off his back.

People will get off his back when he starts playing like the top 10 pick he was (not going to happen), or when he is delisted.

He is paid to do a job and is not performing that job to anything like the level that would be expected. That's his fault, nobody else's.

I’d say that is a pretty fair assessment.

The draft is not a guarantee of outcome. Plenty of top ten picks have not made the cut, and I’d say Sam will fulfil that criteria with us.

A good, though not entirely analogous, role model for Sam might be Paddy McCartin. While his issues were borne from entirely different causes, a change of environment has changed his career from being a contender for biggest draft bust of all time (fairly or unfairly) to at least being a solid at the back end of his career.

Sam has lost all confidence at present and looks like he is second guessing everything that he does certainly not using his attributes to his or our advantage. Comeon Sam the clock is ticking and time and tide wait for no man.😢😪

I’ll never forget the organiser of a very big Victorian music festival (which is still going) describing them as “Jive Bunny with a Mooks endorsement” after watching their set.

Well .... Listening to the radio yesterday Carey and co. were discussing McStay asking for 700k for a trade to Collingwood.
Carey was asked who would be better ... Weid or Mcstay.
Answer was Weid.
McStays output numbers didn't stack up to his pricetag.

Just sayin'.

My opinion ....
Until the football dept thinks VR is worthy of a game the Weid stays in.

I totally agree with this statement but remember it is our expectations that he has not lived up to.  Weid didnt ask to be picked in the top 10.  Our expectations and the clubs initial assessment are clearly wrong.  For someone who has been in the system for so long I cannot comprehend how easily he is pushed off the ball.

Weid  - who’s never really established himself as an AFL footballer - is better than McStay, who crashes packs and tackles very well for a tall, hence the price tag (with a 20% free agency tax).

That might be the dumbest thing Carey has said since he suggested Carlton trade pick 1 for Tyson, Frost and Bugg

Weid stays in until Ben Brown is right to go. Which is likely Friday.

It's Jack Watts all over again. We draft a tall kid with supposed skills who we expect will "fill out" and grow into the physical aspects of the position that we recruited them to play. Weid has no mongrel. Zero. It shows every time he runs 2m under the ball when someone is on his hammer. I'd call it something far less flattering, but that would certainly get me a ban. And if memory serves it was his "courage in the air" that had our team choose him over others.....

It's an ongoing weakness in our recruiting team. We seem to be ok at identifying defenders and very good at mid size players, but give us a crack at picking a tall forward and they seem to fall apart. Lets hope V.R is a notable exception.

5 Goals yesterday vs a 1 possesion lucky goal game.

Right now I would prefer Van Rooyen, Mitch Brown, Tomlinson, hell even Joel Smith up forward. Sorry but unfortunately he wont make it at Melbourne. IMO

I wouldnt actually say zero  but what happened to the mantra of recruits having to be aggressive contested ball players.

Barely.  If you consider talls the only one is Harrison Petty.

(For another time but are we any good at drafting talls?)

Not sure how anyone can say he's finished. He's not in great form and is potentially destined to always be more of a backup 22 player, but he's needed on our list IMO. Our other KPF stocks are aging and injured (Brown and McDonald), young (Roo) or on the way out (Jackson).

Unless we somehow flush ourselves with walk up 22 quality tall stocks Weid is not finished imo

If your choice is between Weid and McStay; you need to leave the store.

That’s not necessarily the case, he is a capable back up ruck and we may have an opening in 2023.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
