Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Farewell Sam Weideman

It's hard to tell how much currency he has at the minute but could we offer him up for some low 3rd or 4th round picks that could be used to trade up to a second rounder maybe?

The other question is after seeing what has happened with Paddy Mccartin this season could another team take a punt on him down back? Don't see it working personally but we're running out of ideas and that might be one he could be trialed in elsewhere as he wouldn't get that shot here.

We really need him to be physical. If there's one thing I want from him all game long is to hit every pack and contest in the air, I'm not fussed with marks, kicks, goals or even hitouts right now. We just need him to be a presence and if that is happening he'll chip in with some of the other stuff.

These marking contests where he gets caught under it and loses balance or the number of 'nearly marks' he has. If he just clunks 1 or 2 more per game that may be enough.

Could have said the same thing about Jack Watts...actually pretty much every  past forward except Ablett Snr,Carey or Dunstall.

Anyway there's more chance of LJ of holding a couple more a game than Weid.( that's Dogga ,not Liam J who only dropped them so he could kick them over his head while flat on his back)

Weid caught two against the Hawks in 2019...almost match winners from memory...but I think he reckons thats his quota for the decade.

He's contracted for another year as well. He'll only go to another club if that club shows genuine interest and feels it's a much better fit.

Tried that last year to little success.

His trade value isn’t going to get us what we need - an experienced player whose better than he is. So I’d say he sticks around.

The value of bigger name players who might leave is where our forward line plan has to be. Our midfield and defence is settled. If LJ or Brayshaw leave we trade in the best forward we can get, and Sam is their back up (yet again).

So many threads detour to Sam bashing and the pile on is getting tedious.

Ask oneself a question:  Is he doing the best he can?  If the answer is 'yes' then folks should back off.

His best may not be enough for some but it is all that can reasonably be asked.

Agree, bashing a player does get tedious but it’s a fan forum, so lots of different people and styles/opinions posting.

The confusing issue with Sam is a few very good games like the Geelong final a few years ago, show his ability. When that standard or even near it is not replicated, you have to ask why. Is it injury, confidence,  use of the ball by team mates up the ground etc. Or, is he not giving his best. How would we know? That is where the frustration comes from.

We all want him to succeed, as that would be great for him and the team.

Unfortunately, if he keeps not performing, then eventually we look elsewhere and so will he.

I have no doubt he is trying his best.   Even the anti-Weid brigade on here don't seem to be making personal attacks on him, just on his inability to play as well as we'd hope and need.  So I don't see why anyone should 'back off'.  The criticism may be repetitive, but that's a natural consequence of him being in and out of the team.   Just ignore it if it bugs you LH.

Not everyone is anti weid, but it would be foolish not to suggest that his lack of development and ability to perform should be questioned.

His “lack of development and ability to perform” has been questioned over and over again. There cannot be anything left to question. I’ll admit I find him the most frustrating player because I really want him to perform, but if he doesn’t “have it”, then thats not his fault as Luci has said. Perhaps instead, question the selectors who picked him!

I'm sure many of us feel the same way. Can't wait to hear "Weeeeeeeeeeeed" coming from the crowd while he hopefully plays a belter!

Melksham and Weed selected in the team playing against any side above 17th?

That equals a loss IMHO. One or the other playing is OK .

Both played when we beat the Hawks who were 9th on the ladder at the time.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
