Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Yes.

If Smith goes to the Cats we can be sure of two things,  first Dr. Evil will cop a pasting on DL and second there will be a flood of posts about how Smith is no good, too old and didn’t want him anyway.

Pasting is already well and truely underway red :) and a few posts coming in about how Smith is a bad player so good predictions.

I think it's fair enough for people to question me if this goes the other way though, i just post what i get told, i've posted quite a bit so hopefully posters can judge the whole lot, was always going to be some things that pan out, and others than don't that's just how this time of year works.

Not so sure...think 2020's short quarters may have been to Geelong's advantage; kinder to 'older legs'.

Guess we'll be in a better situation to gauge that next year.

Geelong's response to having the oldest ever side to play in AFL history is to chase 2 x 32yo's from other clubs and potentially losing young players like Jordan Clark!  I can see them dropping quickly - starting next year.

I would not blame you if he indicated he was happy to join us and then changed his mind after a late Cats pitch. I actually am no t keen in him anyway. He is not the player he was and I would prefer Getting someone younger and also developing Baker.
Maybe it would allow us to look at a Treloar deal or Phillips, or even poach a Cats player.

How do people rate Clarke i wonder CD?  Has the pace but what's the rest of his game like.  Is he worth considering on the other wing maybe?

Yes, it's a bit hard to fathom. Guess they must really see themselves as being on the cusp of premiership as opposed to the cusp of a precipice.

Appreciate that Red, i am more keen on his experience/leadership i still see that as a big hole for the club, especially on field.

The big advantage this year they also have 3 first round draft picks.  If they get Cameron and Smith as free agents, Higgins will be 3rd round pick and keep the 3 first round picks, pretty big win.

appreciate you sharing your info.

Understandable that things can change quite quickly in the sporting world, especially without people knowing all the details. Lazio thought they had lined up free agent David Silva a few months ago and just needed a contract to be signed, fast forward a little bit and they saw a press release saying he had signed for Real Sociedad in Spain.

But Cameron will probably cost them 2. It seemed a perfect opportunity to get 3 very good kids and start planning for the next 12 years instead of 12 months.

Strangely enough, a lot of AFL Trade Radio over the past few days has been about things other than trades. For instance, the big news seems to be that Essendon's football boss Dan Richardson has been shown the door after three years in the role.

There is talk of Allir Allir’s mooted move to Port Adelaide and the Treloar story continues to garner discussion.

On Isaac Smith, I wouldn’t be devastated if he decided to go to Geelong or remain a Hawk. He’s 32 years old and you would expect him to have slowed down in the third year of that contract.

That was my experience listening last year.

Just a lot of general footy talk combined with 'experts' naming all the possible things that could happen. Its basically the same as reading this site except you have adverts shoved down your ears at every opportunity.

I thank everybody who listens and shares info.

Thought this was interesting:

"All three deals Smith has been weighing up are similar financially, though as mentioned Melbourne’s is one year longer".

I'd take the 2 year contract if the $ were similar in total to 3 years and avoid putting in an extra years work.

And if a 4th flag is important then Geelong is a much better prospect. By the time we make a GF he may not even be selected or even be at the club.

All roads lead to Geelong.

You'd think this puts us in last place.

I read it that we are offering the same money per year but have an extra year in the contract.

Otherwise there is no way you would consider us an option at all.

No one would sign a three year contract at his age when you can guarantee the same money in two thirds the time. Especially not to come to us.

I hope you’re right otherwise we might need to go back to haggling school.

Releg's suggestion of more intense development of Baker - one of the AFL's fastest players, without doubt - is a very strong case for not going with a 32 year old, current 4-quarter scrubber - even more important than his potential leadership contribution onfield as we now have a few 'suitable' types to lead, guide and motivate our younger brigade.

Baker needs cleaner hands, more elusiveness and a larger 'hit the bastards where it hurts' mongrel attitude towards tackling opponents. Baker has, in other words, some great potentials and it is up to our FD to achieve this with focus.

Aaron Davey comes to my mind; very light, fast, mobile, environmentally highly spacious, tackled like a true pro - Baker could be very similar. That is the kind of red/blue competitor we need more than ever.

Why on earth would the cats trade in a 32 year old? They had the oldest team in vfl/afl history this year.

And it showed in rhe second half if the gf.

Sure ablett retires but c'mon

Next season we go back to normal lengths quarters. The dad's army will run out of steam well before the finals.

Dangerfield is pushing for shorter quarters to be the norm. Knows normal length disadvantages his club. Watch it happen.

So the real thing starts tomorrow with the start of the free agency period and the question is what will be the first done deal?

Past years ~

2017: Jackson Trengove joins Western Bulldogs (Friday)

2018: Reece Conca joins Fremantle (Friday)

2019: Gold Coast’s offer for RFA Brandon Ellis (Friday)

The first trades in those years were ~

2017: Jake Lever’s move from Adelaide to Melbourne (Thursday)

2018: Lincoln McCarthy’s move from Geelong to Brisbane (Monday)

2019: Tim Kelly’s move from Geelong to West Coast (Wednesday)

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P
