Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

One further comment I heard was that MFC are in this as a long game. What they are doing this off season will be part of a much longer term strategy that is in place for the next few seasons.

I note the positive, supporting comments made on the exits of both Preuss and Hannan as a marker to other players in the comp as to the respect the club has for the players. (This is my comment, not something that ha been passed on to me)

Just curious if you can explain the long game part at all. Does this mean where trying to free up salary cap space and target free agents or looking at bringing in more draft picks? Given the club has been so bullish on our list over the last 18 months, I am interested in what this plan is.

So how far off regular finals are we?Iis it next year the year after??

I also would like to know what the long game strategy is

The long game strategy is an interesting one when you would think Bartlett, Pert, Mahoney, Richardson and Goodwin are all very much tied to exceptional results in the next 12 months.

There must be a big fish we are loading up for next year but the ship may have sailed by then

Unfortunately many teams are going to need to make these changes over the next few years with the decrease in the tpp and list sizes.

Things appear to have gone quiet about Brodie Smith who was mentioned as a possible trade earlier on in the piece.

I think that was a throw a dart and hope it sticks. The whole Goodwin was his mentor thing was just a pisstake that sucked people in.

There was never any interest in Smith.

Never any interest from Adelaide I suspect. Would have been an absolute steal if we could have got him.  Knee injury aside I rate him higher than Williams and Saad as a HBF.

the exact same article that raised vanders and nibbler also name dropped Dunstan, Hewitt, Constable, Blakely and Brodie stating that the shorter quarters and smaller list sizes meant clubs were able to carry less midfielders especially slower inside types that couldn't keep up with the quicker pace due to less tired legs in game. also stated swans had a cap and list cram, i guess due to their rebuild they have so many 1-3 year players that are unproven and a fair few will start to drop off next year when they dont make the grade, v interesting where their cap squeeze comes from aside from buddy tho?

Yep

I think clubs are trying not to cut too hard but there will be some tough decisions made.

As public as Collingwood have been and to a lesser extent the Dees with TMac i reckon all clubs are carrying some sort of bad contract and are looking to cull as much TPP as possible.

Interestingly trade news has mentioned TMac as still a huge chance of moving. I personally don't see it happening but we will wait and see.

I trust @CHF info, i reckon the dees are restructuring TPP and we will see some tough decisions made in the short term.

Not a rumour, just a thought..... TMac and pick 43 to Carlton for pick 30?

Would do that without thinking.

Im a huge fan of Vanders but reality is list sizes are biting and we need speed and class.

We can do both.

2021 is top 4-6 finish as stated by Bartlett.  Improvement achievable with the addition of Ben Brown and general increasing maturity of our list.

2022 add Z.Merrett or Treloar - push for flag.

It's a process - it's possible but unlikely we're going to jump from 9th to the flag next year.  We do need to show progress on that journey though i.e. top 4-6 finish.

Who's adding Treloar in 2022?

Are you suggesting he'll stay at Collingwood for a year then walk out next year?

Think this is a much better option than Treloar, but I'd rather get 2-3 starting 22 players than one big fish.

We are still light on for quality

How does 2-3 plodders that would maybe cost 300-400k a piece make us any better when you can go hard for 2 star players that make us immediately better in areas we're clearly most deficient in (Whitfield - wing/hbf, Kelly - wing/outside mid). We're not as light on for depth as you might think, but we lack the match winning players in those areas.

Bit of both. There were rumors we were keen on him, but it seems to have blown up a bit on here.

I'd wager we're after him or Archie Perkins, who is a lively mid/half forward with good burst of pace, good agility, good leap and hits the scoreboard. If we get pick 14, one of them might make it to our pick and would be gold.

Perkins is the second option  that I liked from what I have read.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
