Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Why? The Pies lured him with a contract offer. Then twice asked him to shift money into future years - second time they had to extend contract out to 2025 expiry to smooth the deferred payments for ongoing cap management purposes - because they'd stuffed their cap by offering Beams 4 years at 600K when they had not planned for that contract, and by generally handing out inflated contracts post 2018 granny.

He is not getting $900,000 to play for each of next 5 seasons because hundreds of thousands of that amount is deferred payments from previous seasons.

The Pies cap is a cluster of highest order. They need to salary cap dump a  5 year contract that includes deferred payments from previous seasons that make the contract untradeable without Pies paying 1 to 1.5 million over the 5 years for Treloar to play for another club and that'll go in the Pies salary cap each year. In most businesses staff involved would be sacked except Eddie was driving force behind Beam's return so action unlikely.

The thing is, the pies knew this situation would unfold. it's very common for AFL clubs to run very close to the salary cap with the understanding that certain players would fall out along the way. They clearly didn't think AT was one of those based on his contract, so something has changed that's made him an expendable commodity.

they weren't willing to sign Jordan De Goey to the same deal AT is on right now so i think that would suggest AT has fallen quite a long way down the pecking order. there are ways they could have dealt with their cap situation that didn't include trading Treloar, Phillips, Stephenson and so on.

I personally believe there are other reasons they're trying to push AT out the door because pushing a bloke out like this who's signed up for 5 more years really shows they don't think they're going to get anything like value for their money from him. if AT is fully fit and happy i'd be retaining him and letting JDG walk, every day of the week.

Oh boy...

"Instead, it’s more likely Treloar stays at the Pies for one more year, giving his camp and rival clubs time to plan for a move this time next year. It’s not ideal, but it’s the best card in the bad hand that he has been dealt by his own club."

Treloar staring down the barrel of awkward Collingwood return

That would be a humiliation for club, coach and player.

I’m wondering whether the fact that we’re hearing rumours about ANB and and AVB being mentioned as trade possibilities that the club has given up the idea of moving Tom McDonald on but still wanting to make more salary cap room available for a further trade?

Hope so.

Charlie Curnow has done his knee again. Straight swap for Tmac?

Yep! Not the swap, the injury.

Curnow suffered a fractured kneecap while completing his rehabilitation on the same knee that has haunted him for more than two seasons.

He will undergo surgery on Wednesday.

While the club was unable to put a timeframe on his return on Tuesday night, they suggested last year an injury of a similar nature would take at least 3-4 months to recover.

Brown deal to be done tomorrow.

I would not be surprised to see TMac move in a give away last minute deal.

AvdB is a possibility to move and there is movement for a further pick swap to move into the first round.

A couple of days to go and still a bit to play for.

If we can make  the move into the first round a well as the  player trades we have made then I think we will have executed our strategies exactly as we wanted.

One further comment I heard was that MFC are in this as a long game. What they are doing this off season will be part of a much longer term strategy that is in place for the next few seasons.

I note the positive, supporting comments made on the exits of both Preuss and Hannan as a marker to other players in the comp as to the respect the club has for the players. (This is my comment, not something that ha been passed on to me)

I heard the Swans are nibbling again.

Chances of it happening as far as I am concerned and in a basis of what I heard are around 1 in 4.

Do you think we'll bring anyone else besides Brown?

There were reports swans had cap issues aa well. Wonder if that is holding up a lot of deals and the reason why there isn't much movement.

the exact same article that raised vanders and nibbler also name dropped Dunstan, Hewitt, Constable, Blakely and Brodie stating that the shorter quarters and smaller list sizes meant clubs were able to carry less midfielders especially slower inside types that couldn't keep up with the quicker pace due to less tired legs in game. also stated swans had a cap and list cram, i guess due to their rebuild they have so many 1-3 year players that are unproven and a fair few will start to drop off next year when they dont make the grade, v interesting where their cap squeeze comes from aside from buddy tho?

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
