If the Cats win tonight, they will be known as a great side. All premierships sides are. Even the ones that bob up and win out of nowhere (which Geelong clearly won't be).

The Bulldogs aren't known as a great side.  They had a great year.

As I said, clearly we disagree.  And there's no point having a backwards and forwards tennis match.  I'll leave you to your opinion.

Geelong has won 10+ games every year since 2003.

They've only missed the finals twice in that period (2006 with 10.5 wins, and 2015 with 11.5 wins).

They've won three flags in the last 14 seasons, could be four tonight.

And they've made the preliminary final weekend 10 times in the last 14 seasons.

All of that to me represents very strong performance.

Yes, they've struggled in finals since the 2011 flag (a 6-12 record heading into tonight), and if they lose tonight they'll have won zero flags in the last nine seasons despite finishing in the top 4 six times. IMO, all that says to me is that they were a mark or two below becoming possibly the greatest team in the history of the game over a 14-season stretch.

You're conflating eras.

Not a great current team, irrespective of whether they win tonight, or not.

However, they are a great great club, which is a different issue.

Ease up tiger, we won 6 flags and played in 8 GFs in an 11 year stretch in finals - they are MILES off that.  You can add a 3 dud seasons on either end to make it up to 14 and we still smash them

Was interesting in the thread when someone highlighted that they’ve had only 5 changes to the team we beat in the 2018 finals. I think that says a lot about the value of consistency. It’s much easier to have one player step in to a very organised and experience group than 3-4 players most weeks stepping into a team still trying to get the balance right.

People are to in love with Geelong, I hope they bring in Huggins, which pushs out a young gun like Jordan Clark out, I can see a Australian cricket side thing happening, where 6 to 8 players all retire all at once, and the young guns not getting a game  will either be traded or play so long at the lower level they lose confidence in themselves and don't take the next step.

Off field, Geelong benefits greatly by the fact that it's located within an important marginal electorate. It's my understanding that no other club Victorian club receives government funded upgrades to the extent that Geelong does - from both sides of politics, State and Federal. 

Just one of the little things that helps a club

Not disputing that Old Dee. But if you're selling the club as a destination, and can showcase a whole lot of added extras, it's going to help. The money thrown at Geelong is pretty substantial and that flows to club sponsorship, facilities etc

I did pump up Geelong's tyres earlier, but the clear knock on them under Scott strengthened last night.

In the 2017-2020 period, Geelong has played 11 finals for a 4-7 record.

Richmond, in the same period, has played 12 finals for a 10-2 record (and three flags, obviously). In each of Richmond's premiership winning seasons, they've beaten Geelong (2017 QF, 2019 PF, 2020 GF).

Things could have looked so different to the Richmond "dynasty" and Geelong's Dangerwood era if even one of those three Richmond-Geelong finals went the other way.

Correct, but they didn’t. 
Jeelong’s Finals record since 2011 has been very consistent but ultimately very ordinary. 
The amount of Government assistance they recieve compared to other Victorian sides is Horrendous, and it is about time Clubs like The MFC stood up and said so. 
Maybe this is one of the reasons Pert is so forthright about being financially independent. It is the only way we can change things around 

It will be an interesting period of time over Summer. How close did we get to raising $1 Million...?

Are Geelong leading the field with there new trading strategy? It has never been done before, it could be as smart as north Melbourne where in the 70's with the new 10 year rule, will other clubs head down the Geelong path, it could be a stroke of genius.
