Update:

I spoke to my contact again this morning and he has re-affirmed what i've already shared

  • Issac Smith will join the Dees on a 3 year deal - said announcement coming, not sure of the delay but not worried.
  • Ben Brown will join the Dees on a 4 year deal.
  • The Saints are looking at Oscar to re-enforce their Key defensive stocks. expect a straight swap for Hind should Oscar decide to nominate the Saints, otherwise it'll be a separate deal we look at.
  • I expect Tom McDonald will head to Essendon and fill a key defensive post in exchange for a token pick. although we have some interest in Brayden Ham. i think it'll be a 3rd round pick or something around there. and they'll take on most or all of his salary.
  • The Giants are actively looking for ready to go players. we're keen on their compo pick. don't rule out a surprise player being involved there. they have some interest in Vanders. but obviously Preuss also. and our future pick.
  • There is persistent interest from Fremantle (and others) in Angus Brayshaw that he's currently aware of, there is no expectation of a trade request, and no guarantee he'd be traded even if one came.
  • Plans are in place to get a long term extension in front of Oliver before round 1. all indications are they're willing to talk.
  • Some calls have been made re Christian Salem, MFC has said no.
  • James Harmes is not going anywhere, he's Melbourne through and through.
  • I can confirm now that one of the 2 players is Brodie Smith. Goody  has connections with him, Crows looking to rebuild and Goody feels he'd give us some speed and bounce off half back that we're lacking. we tried to fill that same role with Saad but it didn't pan out. he's contracted until 2021 but the crows aren't against moving him on if he'd like to chase success in the back end of his career.

Great thanks for the update.
Fingers crossed we can get Oliver re-signed ASAP. I would have zero issues with giving him a long term contract if we were happy to give Viney one, given his age and relatively good history of injuries.

This is great and no reason at all to dispute any of it. Brodie Smith would be a fine get with Smith as well, both can run and are 100m players.

Osacr Swap for Hind would be perfect. Tom to the Bombers would be great, not because i dont like them both, but they deserve another go,  and sometimes things just happen, they are both not the future for us.

Vanders is an interesting one, love his toughness and aggression but is that all he offers?

Interesting times ahead.

Smith passes to Smith, who goes long to Smith. I hope I pronounced that correctly.

We're interested in Higgins but the expectation is other clubs are willing to offer more than we are for him. we think he's a little bit of a risk in terms of getting back to his best and probably need more of a sure thing.

we're definitely interested though, and interested in a small pressure forward. but i think Carlton for example might make him a better offer in terms of $$

Any mail coming out regarding coaching reshuffle and Pert review?

Not specific, we've asked the question of some assistants to try and get them in. it'll be a smaller coaching panel. expect RIcho to have a slightly different role.

I think Hunt has the ability to be that 2nd small forward with Kozzie if he can just get more into the game with his defensive pressure. I'd be comfortable missing out on someone like Higgins with a Carlton overpaying knowing that we can go into next season with koz and hunt at the feet of Brown and Weid.

Thanks Doc. I think it would be a mistake to let Hunt go, particularly given Hannan will depart. I often wonder if he scratched Goody's car or something, because he averages more goals than just about anyone in the side.

What i've heard RE: Hunt is they're really happy with his offensive game and what he brings but they think he needs to seriously lift his defensive side, especially tackles if he wants to play that forward role. and also staying involved in games a bit longer.

Any ideas what we would have to give up to get Smith?

...And any clue on the second player?

I didn't hear that but I saw it.  Insufficient agility to make it as a pressure forward. Move on.

CAT SKINNING by George On The Outer

When they defeated the Geelong Cats in the 2021 AFL Preliminary Final on Friday night in Perth, Melbourne proved that there is more than one way to skin those cats.  They did it in the ruck and in the middle, they did it in the forward line, they did it in defence and around the ground, but importantly, each and every player a Demon guernsey spent his night at Optus Stadium skinning an opponent. Following the after-the-siren win against Geelong in Round 23, there was an expectation of

The AFL’s two oldest clubs, Melbourne and Geelong, face off on Friday evening in a sudden death Preliminary Final. It’s a game that promises plenty in terms of fascination and intrigue as a result of the rivalry that’s been building between the teams over recent encounters that have been tight struggles which have gone to the wire with two of them decided by after-the-siren goals. The added touch of mystery attached to this week’s meeting comes by virtue of the fact that it’s going to take

The rising case numbers and the continuing lockdowns in Victoria and NSW spelled doom for the 2021 VFL season which went through a slow, painful demise before its recent official cancellation. After weeks of indecision, the AFL decided to pull the plug on the season with the 10-0 Bulldogs recognised as minor premier, but without a premiership cup and without awarding the J.J. With nine finals debutants in the side, the Melbourne Football Club had a daunting assignment ahead of it in the First Qualifying Final — to overcome the competition’s highest scoring side, the Brisbane Lions. In the end, the Demons accomplished the task by putting the bite on their opponents on their way to taming the Lions and recording a 33 point win that propelled them into one the two Preliminary Finals of 2021.   It was one of those debutants, Luke Jackson, who put the bite in more

The greatest Demon A HIGHWAY OF DEMONS by Whispering Jack CHAPTER SIXTEEN - RETURN TO NEVERLAND  I have a six year old grandson who recently took up the family tradition of following the Demons. During the regular season, each team’s goals progress as the weeks pass and if you’re good enough to survive and make the grade, the situation changes. The comparison can be made with the life cycle of a butterfly going through stages from egg to larva to caterpillar, cocoon and in the end to a bright and colourful creature that emerges from darkness i

The Cats were about to lap up their bowl of cream, dreaming of next week but the Demons led by Max Gawn had other ideas. In a stunning finish, they stole the game from under them to claim the plaudits as best team and top of ladder position.
