Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Absolutely incredible stuff. Has the potential to wreck one, or both clubs salary caps. The Pies have always looked bad in this but the dogs are looking very stupid as well, the contract should have been the first thing negotiated and terms written down.

If one club is going down let it be Collingwood!

Tough year coming up for the Filth and Essendrug. Good outcome for the rest of the comp.

Really inconceivable that this issue hasn’t been properly resolved and the AFL is allowing it to persist to draft day.

This is because without certainty as to who is responsible for Treloar’s payments and in which amounts, you can’t possibly arrive a club’s total player payments. In those circumstances, it should be that the clubs involved should not be able to take part in the draft because they might exceed their salary cap once you add payment for players drafted.

I seem to recall being told in the past that the idea of list lodgement dates in the trading and draft periods was to enable the AFL and the clubs to keep tabs on their salary caps with the AFL having the capacity to prevent breaches from happening. Perhaps I’m wrong and perhaps Collingwood can deal whichever way it likes.

Not a worry, I am told it will all be sorted out by the end of his contract in 2025.

“Sources within the AFL said the league wanted to stop the possibility of such a messy outcome occurring again.

One obvious solution being considered would require both clubs to verbally indicate the exact amount being paid by each club in the future years of the traded player when the trade is finalised.“

I’d say it’s incredible this doesn’t already happen but honestly the AFL quite often chooses the messiest path. Just ridiculous that this is not one of the conditions for a trade deal being finalised.

according to today's hun

dogs will pay treloar $3m over 5 years (avg $600k/yr)

filth will pay treloar $1.5m over 5 years (avg $300k/yr)

but......to help the filth's salary cap issues....

dogs will front-end some of their part of the contract and pies will back-end their part of contract

the amount to front-end/back-end was not disclosed

recipe for more cap issues in future for filth ?

The Filth are crazy if they back end this contract again.

Another crazy solution being considered is to actually apply the rules that are in place for all clubs, even Collingwood.

are you saying dogs pay $1.1M (.6 + .5) in 2021 then $475k for the following 4 years

whilst filth pay $2m (1.5 + .5) over last 4 years ?

Where on earth did this "learnings" word come from? I'm hearing it in every second radio and vid interview. It used to be "lessons"  or even "experiences", or whatever, but I assume that's not quite "mindful" enough now for our suddenly enlightened new-age coaches.

It’s in the Age article (Bulldogs thought on trade night that Pies were paying $1.5M over the contract period. Final deal is Collingwood only pay $1M .)

One month after Adam Treloar was traded from Collingwood to the Western Bulldogs an agreement has been reached that will see close to $1 million of the midfielder's contract carried in the Magpies' salary cap over the next five years.....

The elongated negotiation process began when Collingwood disputed the Western Bulldogs' belief that the Magpies had agreed to pay $1.5 million of Treloar's $4.5 million deal that extends until 2025

well the hun has a different story - viz

Quote

Collingwood has failed in its bid to force the Western Bulldogs to stump up extra cash for star recruit Adam Treloar.

The Dogs held their ground and will not be paying Treloar a cent more than a five-year, $600,000-a-season contract agreed last month with the cast-off Magpies midfielder.

A resolution to the contract dispute reached on Friday means the remaining $1.5 million owed to Treloar over the next five years will be paid to him by the Magpies.

But the Bulldogs have agreed to front-end some of Treloar’s first-year wages in a bid to assist Collingwood in managing its salary cap.

MB there was some discussion earlier this year about the currency of this linguistic oddity,  'a jargon or buzzword whose repeated use has irritated listeners here. Annoyingly it appears to be spreading. According to discussion on English Language and Usage ,  "Actually, learnings sounds terrible to native English speakers." I never heard of it being used at all until I worked with people from ....."  Perhaps propagators of its usage should be called Guru Bob or similar.'

'Its etymology, grammatically correct or otherwise, can be traced in print at least to Shakespeare. In  Cymbeline (1623) i. i. 43 The king..Puts to him all the Learnings that his time... as coach allows'

Trust this assists but we're not holding our collective breath, given today's propensity for mass followers of media 'influencers' to accept and use these 'frankenweenisms'.   It's all fugazi! TC

Jake is usually on the money, the hun can be a bit hit or miss.

Who do you believe? or has someone else corroborated either of these stories.

I hope the Hun is right as I like to see C/wood suffer, but....

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P
