Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Exactly. It’s ridiculous when I look through the $$ the Cats must be paying !!

But that’s just it, I dont think they pay huge dollars. I suggested in another thread, and was promptly howled down, that Geelong have built such a winning culture that it is a great attraction for the top players to go there. And they probably forego a few extra dollars to be part of that. They went cold on Crouch due to his drug discretion, and the price he put on his head. They recruit very well, even though they have not had low draft picks for a number of years. They develop what they have. There is a reason they have been in finals now for a number of years, and tonight could win another flag. We need to learn from that.

Many of the players they get in are local boys, so you would imagine they would be more willing to play on reasonable wages with the lure of home being the deciding factor.

Add in the pending retirements of GAJ, who would still be on decent money, and Harry Taylor, and they have opened up some room right there.

To go with the thread, good to hear Nev will be staying, if anything for his leadership and positive presence in the locker room.

Cats will probably lose Gazza and Taylor.  But more $$$ likely even in existing contracts for Parfitt, Guthrie, Stewart, Duncan, Menegola, etc.  who all would jump to extra $$$ even in existing deals.
Adding Higgins and Cameron won’t be cheap.  That’s an extra $1.3M

I recall Gazza said he was back at the Cats on the average players wage and that’s how they just fitted him back in in 2019. Tim Kelly wasn’t on big $$$ either last year so that didn’t free up much

I’d like to check the maths. It does not smell right imv.

We don't know how their contracts are structured either.  Does Cameron come in a heavily back ended contract where the good money kicks in when a few others have retired, or gotten to the end of a heavily fronted contract?

I just hate the fact that this will keep Geelong in the top four again next year.  Sick of it.

Rapt if this the case. I love Nev and want to see the best for him and if that was a longer contract at Collingwood then so be it. But even better if he's staying with us.

Players take a cut to be in a consistent finals team. This can only be achieved once a team consistently makes finals. Sometimes it feels like Maintaining seems easier than reaching this these days.

Heard from a very good tomato sauce that a certain figure once connected with the club left a cool million bucks to Mister Ablett if he returned to Geelong. Quite possibly connected with how they 'manage' to skin their cats the Geelong way.

Good, the thought of Neville in a Pies jumper was making me ill.

Hope he can extend his career somewhere, just not with Collingwood, Richmnond, Hawthorn, North, Carlton, Geelong Essendon or West Coast

Apparently with the retirments of Varcoe and Wells, Collingwood has no indigenous players on their list. Given the findings of the much discussed review, it seems likely to me that Collingwood wanted Jetta for his value in developing indigenous culture from within as much as for any playing skill he could have provided.

I'm being generous here. It's also possible to look at Collingwood's interest in Jetta as purely tokenistic. However, I'll assume the former rather than the latter.

I can remember that they gave/threw Polly Farmer the Stadium when he moved to the Cats, sad Bobby

They must be paying the rest,  other  than the mouse, cos he loves a quid, peanuts, which they would like though.....

I love how Jetta resurrected his career and became a solid Back pocket.

But if he isn't getting squeezed out of  the side this year by a younger player. We are going backwards,

Legend of the club for sure.

But I'm sure how many games he will play in 2021. His tendency to lead with the head was a worrying trend in 2020 and a real sign of significantly slowing down.

once the pace goes in the legs its very hard to use your ability alone to play ,I know from my experience its hard to hide when they others past you

DEE-RUBBING by George on the Outer

For the second week in a row, the Demons had to endure some particularly oppressive match conditions — this time, playing in 30 degree temperatures at the MCG, following the humid sticky Sydney atmosphere of last week.   The warmer conditions didn’t seem to worry the Dee’s since the ball was so much easier to handle, and handle it with surety they did in handing out a 45 point drubbing to the much fancied Western Bulldogs.   After a slow start that saw the Dogs out to

CROSSING THE PICKETT LINE by The Oracle

Melbourne’s performance in losing its Round Zero contest in Sydney has certainly caused the club, the coach and the players to come firmly under the watchful eye of the football world and exposed all of its aspects to a microscopic lens.   Much of the commentary surrounding them has been less than complimentary and, while some might argue that this is unfair after only one round, leaving aside some of the scuttlebutt that surrounds a lot of the discussion around the game, a fair amoun
