Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

TMac on the Trade Table?

It would be nice to see a link to a post saying the TMac extension was a mistake at the time.

Why was it a mistake?

At the time he was a terrific player that had just come off a 50 goal season at Full Forward and was still a very capable Full Back, not to mention as a 2nd mobile ruckman

He has been loyal & stuck with us, injures are a [censored].

Plenty of Harry Hindsights are saying it was a mistake - I'm very keen to see even a single post from the time saying that.

Srs question - disc: not a football thinker like most of you - if Tom drops weight can we run off the wing/high HFF

Yes.
And he can turn it over by foot, poor decisions and getting run down.

The contract wasn't a huge mistake, it just hasn't worked out due to injury. Tom was very very good in second half of 2017 and 2018. He kicked over 70 goals through this period and was standing up amongst the best key forwards in the comp. He was coming into free agency. We signed him for 4 years. That wasn't a huge mistake.

What's happened since is a player who's been plagued by ongoing foot injury issues. It's been unfortunate for both the club and Tom. It's unlucky. He's worked his [censored] off, his work ethic can't be questioned. His talent hasn't just disappeared. His body has let him down. It didn't help matter that the clubs fitness team got him to add muscle bulk to his upper body, which exasperated his foot issues.

The club is now stuck with him contracted for another 2 years on a high amount (circa 700k). It's a big price to pay for someone struggling for both fitness and form. Unless another club has heaps of cap space cleared up (Essendon?), he won't be going anywhere. If he does stay, hopefully he can drop weight and find form again, most likely down back IMO.

In saying all that, I’m pretty confident he will be back, either in his primary role or even as a half forward where I think he can still be a contributor with his strong hands. I can’t see him ever making it as a half back though.

I really hope our coach has the same thought as urs above Forest and doesnt keep persisting with Harmes at half back. It could potentially ruin his career.

I'm not really a fan of digging up the past.

But, in this instance, let's do it.

There is not one single post criticising the contract.

It's actually saddening reading that thread. It was June 2018, we'd just won six in a row. It's like a time capsule back to a much happier era. Feels like an eternity ago.

why would a player not take career security when its available even if no one else wants him and hes stuck in the twos hes got himself a job and income for 4yrs no issues, not his problem. like the treloar situation now.

Exactly Turner. The Treloar problem is of Collingwood's own making. They gambled to get him on board and the bet has turned to poor. Now they are stuck with a problem of their own making. All Treloar did was accept what was offered.

Both North an Ess have good cap space. Neither have a key forward. Are we prepared to pay 10-20% of this contract for 2020? Iirc we paid about 10% of Jack Watts' for him to move to Port. I hope Tmac finds a new home and recovers some form.

Unfortunately they know he's not the answer and think he's cooked.

It's similar to us bringing in Dawes...a waste of time for them.

He offers nothing.

And yet we still signed Dawes. I reckon there's still a strong chance he goes.

It was becoming pretty obvious by early in 2019 that we had made a mistake but at the time in 2018 I think anyone would have re- signed him. He was running hot...the story of Tom's career.

Yes, but we were a total basket case at the time.

Despite their issues I think both EFC and North have better people in charge than we had.

...but, let's hope not.

I think the main issue is we have played him for best part of 2 years and he at no stage warranted it.  He should have been dropped multiple times.  Goodwin just kept the faith that he would suddenly regain form.  i find it scary he did the same with Melksham /Harmes/Brayshaw  this year.  We too often drop fringe players but persevere for way too long with overpriced underperformers.   Players need to earn their place. We just have a horrible pecking order and it is not rewarding effort from guys trying to bust into the team while others are getting gifted games.  I hope Yze can sort out a lot of this, zero faith that Goodwin has it under control.  No wonder we hear of factions within the team.  Selection needs consistency based on merit...Not on past deeds.

I agree and was vocal on here this year about poor selections that were clearly based on favouritism or reputation rather than actual output. All comes down to culture. Gotta love the c word!

Unfortunately, there won't be a club stupid enough to take on his contract.  The best we can hope for is someone is prepared to pay $500K and we stump up the rest.

I'm desperate for him to go as it just might allow us to snag a decent player at the death knell.  Understandably, there's little interest.

Yeah  after the Sydney/Freo games i had a few C words about my team.  Had less to do with culture and more vulgar profanity though :/  I do believe there is truth to the whole culture thing.  I am hoping we learn to play as a team and stop caring about what each is getting paid etc.  Seeing Petracca/Spargo/Weid develop this year was nice.  To get to higher levels we need a heap of our list to improve....Most should be getting better, not worse.  Development, game plan and start believing in each other.  Trust in our structures and players working hard and consistently is the only thing that is going to get us to promised land. Most of our list has at least 10-15% improvement within them over the course of another preseason. We need to see it!

TMac got his Mojo back against Carlscum last year (2019) but got injured in the same game.
He hasn’t been right since.

I’m calling rubbish on Tmac being on big $. I don’t know for fact, but here are some rock solid facts;

He signed at the end of 2017 not 2018 when he had a massive year.

Players generally get smaller salaries for longer term deals, like 4 year deals.

Jordan Lewis had been at the club for a year and was encouraging all the players to take a little less coin so they could keep a good team together. That’s what they did at Hawthorn.

Big salary BS. Someone said it and everyone is running with it.

750k for 4 years, 2 down 2 to go.

Believe it Marty, its real that's why that want rid.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
