Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

TMac on the Trade Table?

Shame on everyone for not calling this out. Treloar is worth a top 10 pick yet somehow you're saying tom McDonald and Treloar should be spoken about in the same sentence.

The only way that trade gets done would be Tom Mcdonald and our next years 1st rounder for Treloar. Give Treloar some bloody respect!!!

Yes, collingwood are sort of kicking him out, thats why he is worth a top 10 pick and not a top 3 pick.

2 years ago he was worth a top 10 pick, he's had his injuries and when a side is pushing a player out with a 5 year contract there's no way you'd pay that.

He is worth a second rounder when taking everything into consideration as is T Mac when you factor KPP are harder to find

Interesting that the pies are not only keen but are intending to play him as a defender again. It’s a bit of a gamble given he has no form to go on for that position and wasn’t exactly setting the world on fire prior to his forward shift.

Still the pies have form with turning Melbourne players into functioning members of their team. TMac for Treloar though seems to be counterproductive to what we’re moving him on for, if the pies pay $100k for Treloar salary would we consider it? Still means they’re essentially paying overs for Tommy. Would’ve thought a straight swap for Phillips would be more on the cards.

If the Howe experience is anything to go by that means he'll be playing full forward by round 4.

And the media will say Buckley has “reinvented” TMac as a forward!

Matt Rondell thinks it might be a ‘good fit’. I can think the moon is made of cheese - doesn't make it real. Not even a rumour, simply some old hack having an ‘opinion’ of what could be a good fit.  Pies are in so much trouble right now, they have so much to sort out that a play for T-Mac would be well down the list of things to do.

Ten days ago we were tipped as likely to pick up Smith and Ben Brown. Both costly acquisitions , but the Smith deal is not happening, so that likely expenditure is not a worry. In these circumstances, in my view it would  be madness to let Tom go. If he doesn’t recover his extraordinary forward line performance of 2018, the fact is that he was a first rate defender in 2017.  What happens if, eg, May breaks a leg in R1? McDonald, in form, offers so much to our list . An excellent character , highly regarded by his peers, I would be gutted if he goes elsewhere .

It's been debated elsewhere no end on this forum. Perhaps you should write a letter to the club, air your concerns, but I would presume the FD have thought of all these possibilities??

He was such a good defender in 2017 that we immediately handed over the keys to the backline to his brother and put him in a ruck/forward role.

He’s better off elsewhere.

A mature lockdown key defender should be a must for us this year, that’s for sure. If May goes down we can’t hand the job to Lever, Petty, Hore or Tomlinson. But there’s cheaper and better options than keeping Tom

Mahoney has just said we aren't targeting outside run because we think we will get it from existing players such as Baker, Hunt and Tomlinson.

It wouldnt surprise me if Tomlinson lines up on the wing at the G next year in a second attempt at that role.

Depends if he can build his tank over the pre-season. I probably shouldn’t have used the word ‘permanent’ but do think he’ll spend most of his time down back with stints on the wing perhaps (after reading what Mahoney said).

Ffs. Not targeting outside run ????  Wtf. We need outside run.

Tomlinson is not suited to the wing. Never has. Played his best footy at CHB. He uses his “tank” to be mobile.  He is not quick nor agile. Can we stop this thought that he is suited to the wing. Mahoney was dreaming and was quickly proven wrong after 3 games in 2020. Tomlinson played well in the last few weeks as CHB.

I think his position in the backline is set in stone deanox.

We need speed on both wings going forward. If we can't land anyone else its Langdon and Baker who get first crack in 2021.

I like TMac he seems like a nice intelligent guy and I wouldn't be rapt to see him at another club, but I felt similar about Jared Rivers.

We may not NEED to trade him to pay for Ben Brown but we should to keep the cap balanced by role. We've got a fair bit tied up in May and Lever and we don't want $700k playing at Casey.

Omac and Preuss will be gone too but we've got Brown coming in, hopefully Petty fit and we should look for a depth ruck.  In addition we could recontract Mitch Brown as tall depth.

I hope we can find a taker for most of his salary.

Tmac, Hore and Tomlinson  are three v different players. Would u play either Hore or Tomlinson at FB or CHB? Of course not! Quite frankly, we would get better value out of Lever , if he wasn’t playing a key position. If TMac recovers his 2018 fitness and we have let him go, we will regret it . He’s only 28, not a has been

This isn't about my preferences. This is about what I think the MFC may try.

For the last few years we have won well at narrower grounds and struggled at the wider MCG. They brought Tomlinson in thinking he could cover that wing, like he had played at GWS since 2017. We didnt play at the wide MCG this year and he was ineffectual as a wing on shorter, narrower grounds. He moved to the backline wuth OMac struggling.

We are moving OMac on but have re-signed Hore, Petty and Smith who will all compete with Tomlinson for the 3rd tall defender role. We have coaching staff on record saying we can use his outside run in 2021. In 2021 we expect to be back at the MCG. My reading between the lines is that we see Tomlinson potentially filling that role.

You may be right with the competition for spots down back, i just think they may not tinker with to much down back early doors. Especially with Petty and Hore coming back from long term injuries.

Our major focus will be our dysfunctional Forward line, adding scoring power and preventing the ball leaving our F50 so easily as it has in the last 2 years.

I have similar reservations about Preuss leaving, when he is the standout replacement if Gawn breaks a leg in R1.

Brown will likely cost a second rounder and Smith was a FA. I would say that’s very inexpensive business.

TMac gets a lot of love and justifiably so. He’s a good sort and we all wish things could have turned out differently but he’s no longer best 22. The FD have moved on from Tmac in a defensive role a long time ago. With Brown joining the forward set-up he’ll play a bit part role at best.

It doesn’t suit us to have a high earning back-up. I don’t think its fair on Tom to keep him as back-up. I don’t think he wants to be back-up. We should work with his manager to ensure a trade gets done. If we have to pay a chunk of his salary so be it.

It's the right time for TMac to seek pastures new. If he moves and shows good form next year I’ll be very happy for him.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
