Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Good luck to Aspley and Southport giving it a go. And also Northern Bullants coming back to life. (Why not Preston tho?).

6 teams North of the Murray, 16 below. Not sure how you make that work in terms of conferences/divisions whatever you want to call them. I can't imagine Aspley and Southport are keen to fly almost every second week.

Right at the moment the whole thing is a dog's breakfast. It is difficult to see Vic teams being able to fly around the country at AFL level let alone a reserves competition. At senior level Gil and his boys cannot work out how many players each team is allowed so when will they work out the reserves comp. What we don't know would fill a very big book.

22 teams so perhaps 21 rounds.

Can't understand who is funding Aspley etc to fly around. Frankston was almost broke and the questions keep coming

I assume it's a lot cheaper to fly Aspley and Southport frequently and the Vic standalone teams a few times a year than it was to run the entire NEAFL.

This is a cost saving exercise for the NEAFL whilst trying to keep the notion of a top grade comp in NSW/QLD.

Although I'm guessing the NSW and QLD top leagues actually do better just on their own. The quality might not be as strong as it was but they'll be better comps for more players.

Only 16 rounds... so even more byes !!

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/twenty-two-clubs-from-southport-to-frankston-to-feature-in-eastern-coast-league-20201029-p569un.html

The AFL says the yet-to-be-named competition will be on a par with the WAFL in Western Australia and SANFL in South Australia as feeder leagues for the national competition, and will play out across a 16-round fixture from April.

just moved to a new place near preston oval.. looking forward to getting along to some games next year!

Coburg oval was supposed to be revamped during 2020 and the Lions were moving to Preston for the duration. Not sure if the revamp took place so you might get to watch Coburg as well.

OMG - I saw there was an even number of teams and breathed a sigh of relief, thinking that would mean no byes.

So, I presume that will mean a late start to the season, and bye or byes all meaning no work for the fringe and recovering players.

Not at all good for player development, though (hopefully) a lot better than 2020 "scratch matches".

So my guess is that we wont have divisions and it will just be 22 teams and a non even fixture with maybe a top 10 or top 12?

You fix it so that each of the 14 clubs who aligned or direct reserves teams of AFL clubs will all always play eachother each season (takes up 13 games). Apsley and Southport you'd probably also play games against the other Qld teams and NSW teams as well (that gives 15 games to each of GWS, Syd, Bris and GC).

The stand alone VFL teams will all always play eachother once (gives them 5 game each) as well as Apsley and Southport (suddenly up to 7).

So going off a rough structure like that, of each of the 22 teams 16 games we have set matches for each:

Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sydney & GWS 15 games each (will need 1 each against stand alone VFL teams).

Casey, Sandringham, Carlton, Collingwood, Richmond, Essendon, Box Hill, North Melbourne, Geelong & Footscray 13 games each (will need 3 each against stand alone VFL or QAFL teams).

Apsley & Southport 10 games each (will need 6 each against AFL reserves or AFL/VFL aligned teams).

Port Melbourne, Williamstown, Werribee, Frankston, Coburg & Preston 7 games each (will need 9 games each against AFL reserves or AFL/VFL aligned teams).

So, I'm a non-AFL player signed up at Casey, earning a few grand a year in match payments. I work 40 hours or more a week to provide for my family, then manage to train a couple of nights a week after work. Now I have to give up half of my weekend to fly to Queensland to play a game against Southport for a few bucks. Thanks, but no thanks - I'll just play in the EFL with my mates instead.

Good point. Are VFL players who are not on an AFL list members of the Players' Association? If so, I wonder how much consultation has occurred on their behalf.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
