Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Bit of a blurb from the Draft Central draft power rankings 1st edition

#21 Mac Andrew (MEL NGA)

Dandenong Stingrays/Vic Country | Ruck/Tall Utility

12/04/2003 | 200cm | 70kg

Snapshot: A raw tall prospect who has proven his worth in each post, Andrew’s vertical leap and fast-developing craft really catch the eye.

Another key position type who has rocketed up draft boards with a promising start to the year, Andrew will have Melbourne recruiters a little nervous with his performances to date. He sits just outside our current top 20 but has that kind of potential, with raw athleticism and bucketloads of upside given his ever-improving ability to be utilised at either end of the ground, or in the ruck. While he has proven his versatility, the Demons Next Generation Academy (NGA) talent looks most comfortable in the ruck, where his leap and clean follow-up work stands out.

Season so far:

Eyes quickly turned to Andrew after he collected 22 disposals, three marks and 11 hitouts on his NAB League debut, before going on to prove it was no fluke by impressing across another three outings. He found himself spending more time forward against the Sandringham Dragons in Round 4 and kicked a goal, but has some development left in his decision making and disposal by foot at times. He boasts clean hands and was better aerially than his averages of three marks and 14.5 hitouts suggest. The same could be said about his game for the AFL Academy, where Andrew was tried up either end before excelling in the ruck during term four, throwing his 200cm frame into each centre bounce with a phenomenal vertical leap

Is our current pick available  next year end of round 2 assuming we finish on top???

If we cant trade higher basically we wont be getting any significant talent

Who can we trade for picks?

We can trade our future 1st as far as I'm aware, so we'd have to package up a 2nd rounder & future 1st if they have their heart set on moving well into this years 1st round

We have someone’s second round pick I think.

On the Road to the Draft podcast, Cal Twomey said he felt Mac Andrew was pretty likely to get bid on inside the top 20.

Haven't seen the kid live but what I've seen in clips suggests he has lots of potential but would be a risky pickup esp if clubs are looking at him as a top 20 pick.  Other than teams with multiple picks in the top 20, I can't see clubs putting all their eggs in that basket.

I reckon the likes of Twomey say these sorts of things to get some clicks etc and we fall for it every time.  Other than Grundy and Jackson, I can't think of many ruckmen that have gone in the top 20 in recent times.  Surely Andrew would have to have a massive 2nd half of the year to make the top 20 as he looks as if he'll need a few years to put on some size before playing in the big league?

The trials were held at the weekend ahead of the Australian Under 19 Championships (which may or may not take place over the next month or so).

Scouting Notes | 2021 Victorian Under 19 trials

As reported elsewhere, Melbourne’s NGA prospect Mac Andrew from the Dandenong Stingrays missed out on a chance to represent Vic Country at the trials due to a concussion incurred in the recent NAB League Boys game against the Bendigo Pioneers.

Bulldogs Father/son prospect rocketed into contention as a top three draft selection with six goals.

Cal Twomey has Mac Andrew as the 12th best prospect in the national draft …

Cal Twomey's Phantom Form Guide: Best draft prospects ranked

Mac Andrew

Ruckman

200cm/70kg

12/4/03

Dandenong Stingrays/Vic Country

It was Andrew's start to the season that caught the eye of scouts, with the Dandenong Stingrays big man putting in some exciting performances as an athletic ruckman who can also follow up at ground level. He blitzed the opening game of the season with 22 disposals, six clearances and 11 hitouts against Gippsland and continued in the same vein to be selected for the NAB AFL Academy's VFL clash. Concussion ruled him out in recent weeks. Andrew, who was born in Egypt and whose parents are South Sudanese, is tied to Melbourne's Next Generation Academy but the Dees won't get to match a bid if it comes inside the first 20 picks.

I think we need to stop posting about Mac Andrew. We aren't getting him. So let's stop the torture.

You're still going far too early on this Dr. D. The draft is 5 months away.

For reference, in Cals 2020 September form update he had Errol guldon at 15, Jack Carrol at 18 and Zane Trew at 21. They ended up at 32, 41 and 12 in the rookie draft respectively.

In his December update just a few weeks from the draft, he had Zavier Maher at 25, he missed out completely.

You would think that at his current weight Andrew would be a minimum of a couple of years off AFL standard and clubs picking top 20 players generally expect them to be playing by late in their first season, or at least in their second.

Also a lot of clubs have several talls and may be looking at different types of players with their top pick.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side.
