Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Good to see Tom Lynch up to his usual tricks. He might be a tiger these days, however, he sure knows a thing or two about spots.

Will he get away with his latest assault? Silly question, Dieter, Fait accompli, the answer is, What's the problem? Damian Hardwick says its okay, as does Mike Christian.

But in the AFL fantasy land, it is the outcome that counts.  So if Lynch had slipped as he did that and crushed the Saint's neck he might just get a penalty - then again, big name player + finals = no bloody chance.

Lynch and Cotchin, definitely have become snipers.

Cotchin really annoys me these days.  Didn't mind him at all as a player, and he is a terrific one at that, but he has become a bit a sniper in recent years and his tackle last night was a shocker.

No doubt he just cops a fine, when a week is what should happen, but he does this more often than he used to.

Its finals time. There’ll be no suspension nor should there be. Yes Lynch is petulant and stupid but there was no real force. If it was a dees player I doubt too many of us would be calling for a suspension.

There’s no need for him to keep getting involved like this. I’m sure privately Hardwick won’t be happy with him at all. He’ll get his suspension in due course. Defenders will keep targeting him so it’s only a matter of time.

Yep you're spot on.

There does need to be some recognition of the fact he's done dog acts multiple times this season.

Yes, if it was a dees player we'd be defending them for a one off act. But if it was someone like May (who learnt from one suspension) who had done this 3 or 4 times in a season, we'd be calling him stupid and probably deserving of a suspension.

What message does Lynch’s and Cotchins action send when they just get away with it? What message does it send to kids?

I think the whole focus by the MRO being on how much damage was done is a mistake. If there's deliberate grub acts going on, they have to be rubbed out.

Unless it's one of the big clubs of course.

Earlier in the year after the Suns v Richmond game, Hardwick in his press conference defended his player/team, the comment was along the lines off, the best teams play on the edge and often cross it that is what it takes to be a good side.

Was thinking great I have 10 kids in my junior side that follow Richmond and they will go out and belt kids now.

The arrogance of Richmond is really getting off the charts.  They have every right but being humble in victory earns you a lot of respect.  That is what example we want to set.

I don't understand the concept:' Its finals time. There’ll be no suspension nor should there be.'

So, because it's a final, anything goes. That is codswallop bean curd crapola.

I didn’t say anything goes mate. Don’t misrepresent what I said. He didn’t take the guy’s head now did he?

I don’t want to see players get rubbed out in a final for what Lynch did last night. As long as there’s consistency. And before you prattle on about Richmond getting preferential treatment I can’t recall any instance in the last 25 years where a so called smaller club has had a player rubbed out for something similar.

Mate, mate, you don't get it do you? I don't understand why you should  get away with idiotic brutality - Lynch is a repeat offender - just because it's a freakin final. If I understand you correctly, mate, you're saying that kids when they watch football will understand it's not alright to kneel on someone's neck in a home and away round, but it becomes okay to do it, cos, well it's a Final.

Idiotic yes.

Brutal. Spare me.

I’m delighted someone is thinking of the kids.

I’m no fan of Lynch but as I’ve said I don’t think he should be rubbed out. The norm, whether you agree or disagree, is that these incidents do not result in a suspension in a final. I happen to agree and so does the general AFL community.

If attitudes shift and the commission decide it’s no longer acceptable to let these incidents go then so be it. Just be consistent and apply fairly to everyone but it will be a brave MRP panel that hands down that first suspension.

The problem is that his soft knee to the neck in itself is not suspendible by the standards the AFL sets but the AFL does nothing to rub it out.  Also he gets off on other infractions which lesser lights spend time in the stands for and is a serial offender but the 'crimes' do not add up to anything, whereas a single vigorous tackle (with no ill intent but with the oppo trying to kick the ball instead of protecting himself) gets you rubbed out for 4 weeks.

So what does the AFL need to do to stamp out that sort of behaviour?     A few 50m or 100m penalties might get the Hardwicks of this world to stop players acting like Lynch rather than praising them.   Or maybe the tribunal can do some accumulating of misdeeds and if a player gets too many naughty points, he's rubbed out for a week.

Fair points.

I think the best way to deal with these incidents is in game if possible. Why can't an official in the stands review and hand out a sanction. Why not make Lynch sit on the pine for a spell, a quarter perhaps. That would penalise the player and his team during the game and advantage the team he has infringed against. It’s done in other sports so why not AFL?

Definitely a similar tackle the week before against Brisbane

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
