Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Classic corporate waffle

I disagree - Pert has now put his own reputation on the line, by owning the responsibility. Good leadership in my book. Whether it works or not, is another question...

I heard the Saint Kilda CEO talk on the radio the other day and he said that the Saints were acknowledging and rewarding the support of their 2020 members by offering to upgrade (for no additional cost) to the next level of membership all members that renew their membership for 2021...

I read Pert's email hoping for something similar, and was disappointed.

Just a hunch, but imo Pert has a 'hard edge'.  Exactly what our Club needs in this situation, and what most of us have been baying for.

It's not the external review I was hoping for Df. But better than nothing, we wait with baited breath for the results.

Yep, pretty poor the way members have been treated by the club this year. Other clubs are doing a lot more. Expect membership to be abysmal in 2021.

It’s a corporate message. But it still was very worthwhile to communicate and shows the members that the club is doing something.

Deep dive. Every club undertakes a post season post mortum.

I agree that the coaching ranks should thin out as a result.

He's the CEO. His ownership is not in question. And he signed Goodwin for 4 years, so his Rod Grinters are kinda on the line...

My point was more simple though... The email update was just empty

Our membership department has always been fairly poor in comparison to most others in regards to rewarding those who have stuck by the club - I feel like they've been severely hamstrung by those above them in wanting to reward people who are faithful.  Other clubs promised functions for 2020 members, discounts, sent out extra packs and the like - ours froze membership prices and that's about it. I think they actually underfund the membership department. They need more people working for them, more engagement, and a bigger team to actually devise ways to keep members engaged and make prospective members feel like there's an actual reason to join up.

All of that costs a lot extra, the MFC is a small club by AFL standards. We just have to accept until we are power on the field resources in all areas will be less than most clubs. Win games it fixes everything.

By signing Yze I assume that the review has finished. Now they are in the process of hiring/firing/shuffling staff in response to those findings.

The Yze article and hiring would appear to say three things:

1. Goodwin will be retained for 2021 for better or worse. Yze quotes referenced working with Goody, that would give a strong indication that Goodwin will be head coach going into season 2021.

2. Yze has experience in development, kicking/skills development, Match Day Strategy and Opposition...Our performance in 2019-20 would suggest we are missing in every single one of these attributes. With less coaching staff I would say Adem will have inputs on all of these but mainly hoping for his expertise in Match Day Strategy and Opposition. This would surely encompass assisting with the team selection/positioning which equally needs improvement.

3. Without referencing any other coaches at Melbourne other than Simon Goodwin, it would appear Alan Richardson is either shifting roles/moving on. This has been hinted at but this article would be the closest we have had in terms of confirming this. Hard to think he would not reference a notable name as Richardson if this wasn't the case. "I'm really excited to be back at the club, but more importantly, I'm excited to be working alongside 'Goody' (Simon Goodwin) and the coaching staff," Yze said.

Interesting times ahead.

What happened to the "full review" we did half way through 2019 and when we shuffled the coaching deck chairs. Every role changed except Goodwins.

There's only so long you can blame the assistants and the strategists and the medical staff and the fitness staff before you end up back with the guy who has failed when the finals were there for our taking in 2017 and 2020 and failed in 2019 when they blamed injuries. Goodwin even came out this year and said we "overachieved in 2018"

We are the Kings of excuses. And revisionism.

It makes me sick when I look at what Brisbane have been able to do in 2 short years. And even St Kilda in 1 year.

What has St Kilda done in 1 year?  We started at #17 and if we won one more game we too could have been thrashed by Richmond.....

Would not have beaten the dogs to even make it to the Tigers, and if the saints kick straight early on game could be different.

And we should not have dropped to 17th, except it’s a very Melbourne thing to do. I would wager good money saints won’t drop to 17th next year.

OD that's  not  what Perty  said in the email. We are self sufficient and don't want or need AFL help.

Yes we are not a Big Club in Victoria like We were in the 50/60's In our glory days.

BUT we have the potential at the G to have blockbusters as in 2016/17/18  more than the Roos Dogs Saints. What this complaint is really small change snd I would rather the Club concentrate on the Footy side to get that better and other issues like headquarters, etc.

2021 is vital in all areas but nonesofar as how many wins and Finals participation to get the Turnstiles and fans up and about.

smart marketing as well as rewarding loyalty.

Many may like the upgrade and decide to pay the extra in 2022

Yep. I’m very disappointed we haven’t been offered anything for 2021. Especially premium members who pay extra for reserved seats and GF guarantees etc.

I think that unless we start next season off very well, our membership numbers will continue to plummet.

I am also a member of Parramatta in the NRL. Next year my membership drops by $40, and for letting them have my membership $$ this year, I get a 2021 training shirt with the names of all members who paid in full for 2020 on it. Hobart Hurricanes also gave the first 500 members form last season to renew the choice of a shirt, cap or beanie.

Seems to recall getting an e-mail from MFC earlier this year offering a lapel pin as reward for not pausing membership for 2020. Boy oh boy WOWEE!!! Seems this is pissweak compared to other clubs.

You probably overlook the disasters at other clubs which is a natural bias.  Show me the evidence that some other clubs have not done the same, including the Saints before I will feel too glum about this year.

I posted this on another but for those interested it is below.

Three weeks after sending a message to Mr. Bartlett I received the below reply.
It would seem that there has been a lot of comments from members.

“Thank you for your email, which has been forwarded to Glen Bartlett for you.

Given the amount of correspondence Glen has received, it may not be possible for him to reply personally to each and every message.

We thank you for your ongoing support, we truly appreciate it.“

Other clubs do it, no doubt about it. But under Daniher we did it every second year, we are the epitome of wild swings on the ladder. Under goody we have finished near the top, near the bottom and mid twice. So it would not surprise me if we finished top four or bottom four. It’s the way we have been for ages... except when we just stay at the bottom for years on end.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
