Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I think Mahoney comes across very well.

He’s always struck me as a very competent, knowledgeable and experienced football club GM.

I don’t reckon he’s the problem.

To be honest RB how many of us know how well he does his job? I would suggest none of us.

The problem is lack of success finally lands at his door.

His other problem is he was one of the main supporters of Goodwin getting the job in the first place and has backed him in all along the way include the infamous new contract before a ball was bounced in 2019.
Now if it is already ordained that Goodwin is staying ( as it appears to be the case) then it would be a bit rough to fling him now.
I am more concerned about who is conducting this review.

The silence from the club is deafening.

What happens if we cannot go to games again in 2021? I am of the age that is in the death danger zone for the virus. I won't be going to a game next year until there is proven  effective vaccine. I love going to real game at the ground, I go to seconds games I love AFL at the ground. Watching on a screen is a much less enjoyable experience for me. This year I had less interest than all my watching over the last 60 years. So what is the club going to give me next season to compensate? This year I took the loss  thing on the chin and will probably do again next year but I reckon that the MFC will struggle to get membership above 25K if you still cannot go to games. They had better get creative or the income will drop considerably in 2021.

Maybe the club can give you the vaccine. Seriously. If a vaccine is available, the club might be able to organise for health care professionals to administer the vaccine as you enter the ground. I'd take that over a new scarf any day.

OD is obsessed with compensation for this year, as if the MFC spread the coronavirus so we wouldn't have to watch the debacles against Sydney and Fremantle live.

0Either you miss read my comments or I am not doing a good job of communicating. I am not fixated on this year at all it is done and gone. Do you think everyone is happy to sign up for a membership if they cannot go to a game in 2021? For a success starved club like the MFC getting value for money is an important item. Just look how many members wait every year to see how we go in early games before buying a membership? People on here are rusted on and will buy a membership come hell or high water. After another failed year a lot of members will need a reason to buy a membership in 2021 other than supporting the club. Giving them some compensation for 2 years of no games seems a modest thing in my view.

Thus is not a problem I will be in the early adopter group LDC. If we cannot go in 2021 then I will just have to get used to tv games.

I just see it as something that isn't the clubs fault.

I buy my membership to support the club.  Going to games is a bonus.  I'll still buy the 5 memberships I get next year without hesitation.  Would I love to be able to go to the games and take my kids?  Of course I would.  But that's not the clubs fault.

If people buy them solely to go to the games then I would understand it.  But I don't, and I would assume that others buy it to support the club more than anything.  But again, that's an assumption, and I don't need anything else from the club as compensation.  I'd rather they continue to put that money into the club to pay for coaches, players etc.  I don't need freebies or money off my membership.  But that's just me.

Funny because we are both doing the same thing. But sadly all members or more importantly future members for 2021 do not think this way. A large number have the attitude of what's in it for me.

As OldDee mentioned, most people here are rusted on and probably don't represent the broader membership base.   We have 3 memberships for family members who have collectively been to 3 matches over the last decade.   Surely that's not typical and most members expect to go to the MCG at least a few times a year.  However, I'd think/hope there were not too many who just buy membrships on a 'pay per view' basis and that most members see the cost as a mixture of club support and 'pay per view'.  But if that is not true and people can't get to matches in 2021, a lot of clubs will have a problem.

I look at it lole this:

-It is a membership of a club, not a season ticket to a corporation owned entertainment entity.

-Look at our financial statements: any equity is listed as "members funds". The club management can't legally use those funds for any other purpose than pursuing its constitutional objectives.

- I become a member so I can influemce the direction of the club through electing its management. (Im aware we havnt had many options recently, but thats on us).

-I become a member to pursue the objectives of the club.

- Part of being a member is participating by watching games, but the base access to home games is a perk of membership only, it isnt what the actual membership is for

- I understand that there is a "premium" component associated with upgraded memberships, reserve seats, access to rooms and othet services. I can understand that people could expect these to be refunded as they arent delivered. Or the cost could be considered a donation. That's fine.

- If it was a season ticket to the AFL Commission owned GWS or GCS, I would certainly expect a full refund. Those entities are not member owned in the same way and the AFL Commission could pull the pin any minute.

I know 2 supporters who had memberships this year. If they cannot go to games this year they won't be buying a membership. Well one has said he will buy a 3 game membership or similar. I suspect there are thousands out there with this attitude.

You are not alone Wise.  I live 600k from the 'G' and get to only 3 of 4 live games in a normal year.  I still purchase my annual 'Redlegs' membership, plus four full memberships for family Christmas presents.  MFC are undoubtedly my preferred 'charity'.

I've had premium membership for 15 years with GF guarantee OD. I'll be doing similar to your mates.

Without a job thanks to covid and no guarantee we can attend matches I just can't fathom spending that sort of money anymore.

You are a very small minority I suspect.

Most buyers are motivated by the attendance and then support I would think.(let me rephrase that..most buyers are motivated by apathy by virtue of the auto renewal process.)

The clubs made it difficult to get refunds this year. The trick and lets's agree it was a trick of saying you could have your money back but you then went onto a waiting list for things such as the GF guarantee, reserved seating etc etc or even worse if you were an AFL or MCC member. Shoddy to say the least.

With the reduction in staff numbers and people working less than 5 days a week I have cut them a little slack this year DJ. They will have had plenty of time to think about season 2021. Let's see how they perform next season.

Will seriously consider membership choice next yr.

There is still nothing official that I can find that there is a review going on. If such a thing is happening it is most certainly looking like an internal review and we know what happens with those most times. Two weeks ago I wrote to Mr. Pert ( not Pertie!!!) asking if there would be a Members review night this year, via Tracy I received a reply this morning saying there would be one but date unknown.

Still no reply from our Chairman  on the review!

I wait in expectation. Ha ha!!!!!

Gary Pert has just sent a letter to members via email

Just received an email from Pert.  In part it said:

"From a broader program perspective, due to the $3 million cut in the soft cap and our inconsistent performances this season, I'm conducting a review of the football program, with a deep dive into the coaching program. The outcome of this review will ensure we have the right leadership, resources and programs to maximise our potential in 2021 and beyond. All changes will be communicated to members when appropriate, over the pre-season period".

It isn't an external review like many of us had hoped.  But I live in hope we get a high calibre coaching group that is the equal of top 4 teams.  Our players and supporters deserve nothing less.

I'm glad he acknowledges that our 'inconsistent performances' is a reason for the review.

That's the problem so hallelujah and go Perty. I say.

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him.
