Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Petty, Sparrow & Smith Re-Sign

Very pleased with these signings particularly, with the signing of Petty. I liked what I saw of him in the few games he played. Has a bit about him that seemed to get into the oppositions heads. Will be interested to watch his progress and to see where he ends up playing.

Sparrow has a good set of players along side him in the midfield to learn from.

Good to hear. I hope burgess stays and there is some continuity in fitness / strengthening for the players. Hes now had a year to understand injury issues and really build a strong preseason that will have these types of guys ready to go.

why aren't we hearing any official announcements from the club, i find it so strange that we've been finished for 2 weeks now and we still have 20 players OOC including many obvious resignings that we're hearing are done deals.

Also find it strange Hawks, Giants, Swans have made no list changes given ladder positions

  • Demonland changed the title to Petty, Sparrow & Smith Re-Sign

There are plenty I would sign before Smith

Not a footballer and a waste of a position on our lis> I have really tried to see what others apparently see in this guy. Unfortunately I haven't!

Really cant understand this signing

But there you go I haven't been able to understand very much of what our footy department do

This is just another poor example in my opinion

Only thing I can put it down to is it was a part of Shaun's concussion compensation.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I really like Smith and think he just needs a bit of continuity.

He's strong, quick and can play tall and small.

His upside is enormous so I'm happy with the signing particularly given that he's likely to be on peanuts.

Interesting how the tone of this thread changed after it was edited to include news of Smith also being re-signed.

Sparrow has shown some good signs and is a handy signature.

Petty looked good forward before his never ending injury. Fingers crossed he comes back fit and firing.

Im in the "what do they see in him" group when it comes to Smith.

The article says Smith signed for one year.

If Oscar leaves and Petty is not ready to go we will need depth in the backline.   Hibberd is yet to re-sign (I assume he will) and is getting older so we also need coverage for him.

So I have no problem with a one year extension.

One year extension for Smith sounds about right considering our defensive depth looks a bit flaky at the moment. OMac is seemingly on the way out, Hibberd isn't getting any younger, Jetta is on his last legs and Hore is coming off an injury riddled season.

Very happy about Sparrow and Petty. Expecting both these boys to become senior regulars next year.

Goodwin said that we need to be a ruthless club. Re-signing players like Smith, to me, shows that we still don't known how to make decisions that smart clubs make.

Will only take an announcement that Jones has been extended for a year, and I'll put a freeze on my membership for 2021.

That's my opinion. Many will think it's a poor one, but it's where I'm at with this club now. I want greater accountability for poor decisions.

A year extension for Joel Smith may suggest that the club are still confident they can find the right shaped hole for this particular peg. He wouldn't be on serious coin anyway and the worst that can happen is that he plays the season out down at Casey. Hardly the end of the world.

See, I'd argue that opposite. We could have easily rolled over and given Smith a 2 year contract as is pretty standard. Instead, it seems we've questioned if he will be in our best 40 in 2 years time and only offered him a 1 year contract (or Smith didnt like what we offered in the second year). I'm happy that he is signed up so we have someone to play key back if someone gets injured, but is not signed on for a second year if he becomes surplus to needs.

Lists are incredibly hard, and we dont have all the information at the moment. I acknowledge that it feels like some of these decisions are mind-boggling, but I think it would be tough to find a better replacement for Smith as a key back, on the money he is on, with the picks we have, and our list demographic. I hope Smith makes it, I'm not confident he will, but I am glad that we have someone there if May/Lever goes down.

Smith is a very inexperienced player and he had a fairly poor season.  he has only played 18 games in his career, so this signing is on potential. He has a massive leap, is 6"3' and very agile and quick. Obviously he needs to learn the footy smarts and quickly. but if he got some continuity and confidence I think he could be a player.  Play on a small quick fwd and take intercept marks, similar to Howe.

Before I get shouted down, I am not saying he will be as good as Howe, just trying to think what the MFC would be thinking with him.

He is taking up a spot in a year of reduced list size and thats concerning,

He is either in or out of the preferred group by the football department

They obviously rate him so they have made their decision

I dont and others on here also

Just typical MFC and dont start me on the posssible  Jones extension.

Better coaching and some consistent VFL footy could unlock Smith. He’s not nearly as far off making it as people think.

What are the alternatives?

Hibberd in his final year, Hore who’s too short and slow to switch on to talls, Tomlinson who’s too slow for quick guys? Got to give him one last chance to see if he can make it

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
