Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

What a choke from Hawkins. 4 behinds and one didn't register. he has had a great year but bottled it tonight

Port are a better team than geelong, too much pace and flair. plenty of good kicking skills in their back half too

They play the winner of West Coast/Collingwood in Queensland.

Geelong versus WC.  good lord, can they both lose?

Cats will have 2 days rest on WC but I'd still back WC to get over the line in the Tim Kelly cup

We were in 2018. Problem back then (and still now) was consitancy in its application. But with the new game plan, that ferocious nature has all but disappeared.

For a few weeks. Under intense pressure we were nowhere.
We didn’t Learn from that Preliminary Final

The pressure goes up 20%

even worse

Cats would not be top 4 without Hawkins.  they look terrible when he doesn't play or plays poorly.  they boring keepings off game only works if the the fwds mark it

apart from hawkins choking, i thought that port's handballing was the real difference between the sides

game was really a big defensive grind from start to finish. not much attractive footy

still always good to see cats brought to ground (not that i'm a big port fan but they had the better year)

Also their ability to quickly get the ball to foot and chip it out of a tight contest and move the ball forward.

I imagine this would be a unanimous consensus among demonlanders, but man do i hate port supporters. they are simply a shocking supporter base. For instance, what was the need to cheer wildly at hawkins hitting the post as if they had just won the grandfinal. maybe i'm just annoyed because we always get a bad run of it with the umps when we play them over there.

He copped it from the crowd

I sat amongst them a couple of years ago in a night game when We went down by a goal or so.

Just feral, inbred and clearly mentally impaired most of them.

They recruited quality (Rockliff, Dixon, Burton, Lycett). They drafted quality (Duursma, Butters, Georgiades, Powell Pepper, Rozee, etc). There's not substitute for quality!

Brilliant recruiting. They gave up Wingard to Hawthorn in return for Burton and after lots of pick swaps got pick 5 used for Rozee, Butters at pick 12 and Duursma at pick 18. Somehow Mayes came from Brisbane in all those pick swaps. That is a recruiters dream

They new they didn't have the class required and went and found it, good draft year.  Great list management.  Man if i was the hawks looking at Wingard's effort and then how Burton is developing, I would think they are way on the wrong side of that ledger in term of outcomes for them.   Burton was great in his first final.

Port supporters can sometimes be akin to Pies supporters on steroids.

Hawkins was Fritsched....forced to lead deep into the pockets. Other than the easy one he missed the others were hard shots.

Stanley and KJ missed easy ones as well

Motlop !!

Ablett has been poor the last few games.  If it wasn't for the name would he even get a game next week?  If he does, nostalgia may cost them a Prelim.

Having said that very happy for them to go out in straight sets again.

Cats were poor. Very poor.

best - Dangerfield, Tom Stewart , Parfitt, Stanley, Tuohy

the rest were lost

disgraced - Rohan, Dahlhaus, Miers

ineffective - Ablett, Selwood, Guthrie, Duncan. They could not run and execute.

The biggest fail - Hawkins goal kicking. 5 behinds , one on the full .  Three were definitely bad misses that he should have swallowed.

Scott putting Danger forward in the second half.  Crap coaching.

Port applied pressure but Cats choked.

What once was part of a footballers basic arsenal. Even at suburban level if you played footy you prided yourself on being an elite pass, well in circle work anyway. In truth the average suburban footballer likely spent more time on his kicking than the modern AFL player.

Spare a thought for Jack Watts. If he hadn't broken his leg last year he may have well played in his first final last night. I suspect he's not the type of person to brood about missing out, but it would have been nice to see him rewarded for having to put up with all the criticism he received over the journey purely because he was selected number one in his year and in so doing went to a club which was incompetent at managing and developing him properly.

A very sympathetic description of Jacks journey. IMO he didn't want it enough didn't develop and  chose lifestyle over footy.

Good luck to Jack I really loved some of his games for us. AFL is not for everybody particularly if you aren't able to singularly focus and develop yourself

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
