Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Any decent wingmen would, but that's not really the question.

The questions are:
1. Does his limited skills and contested ability see those B+F results start to slide over the new few years - he wouldn't be the only hard running type of player to have peaked by 23 (see T. Bugg or A.N-B).

2. Is Isaac Smith (for free) better for a couple of years for free whilst we work on a long term replacement who we can draft with the pick we won't have to give up for Phillips

I'm not so sure the Pies would be so keen to move Phillips on if they thought he had 100 solid games left in him. Chris Mayne's their other wingmen and he's just about done, they could find a way to hold on to the salary if they really wanted to. 2 years of Isaac Smith and allocate the draft resources towards finding longer term solutions - in particular guys who can kick would be my preferred result.

No chance of holding his salary, with De'Goey, Mihochek, daicos and a few others to sign still. As well as the reported players they are keen on.

I wouldn't say no to Smith, but if i had to choose its Phillips by the length of the Flemington Straight everyday of the week.

Can't compaire really, one could give us 8 years of service compaired to 2 years.

So why Phillips and not 1 of the other 15 or so well paid players they have?

This is the year to top up with what we need. 3-4 players of genuine quality can catapult us to a strong position next year.

Is there anyone from GWS we can possibly entice back the Vic with the Pruess trade?

Young Daniels would probably be pretty handy as a small forward, not sure if he's gettable

I would take both Phillips and Smith thanks. One for free and the other for cheap. I think we can fit both into our team, and if not then competition for spots - perfect. Baker also has an incentive to come on. Need more run is the generally accepted idea.

Right age, left sided winger and had some good years statistically in 2018 and 2019.

Is it salary cap squeeze or is there more to it? Clubs generally don't like to let good players go. Interesting.

when you have daicos and brown as competition for wing spots you generally go with the famous club names would be my thinking and probably theres too

If ANB and possibly Hannan leaving, I think he could play the high half forward role

id prefer narkle as he can roll up into the guts and rotate on field with trac, also phillips played this role this year and i dont think it was too successful for him individually

zac langdon but idk what to make of this https://www.zerohanger.com/afl-trade-news-giants-forward-set-to-elect-rival-club-as-preferred-destination-afl-2-3-4-65590/ (is this reliable source idk)

Out-of-contract Greater Western Sydney forward Zac Langdon is set to name West Coast as his preferred club of choice for 2021, per The West Australian.

The Western Australian product played just the seven games for the Giants in 2020 and is now keen to return home at the conclusion of his contract.

i woulda said cumming too but williams and shaw's exits made him a required player there

Absolutely and Phillips Narkle Will Brodie  of Suns plus Isaac Smith offer some much Needed ability fir a cheap price.

We need some HF or wing depth.

Personally I am hoping we get Xavier O'Halloran. Pick 22 in 2018 draft. Had good leadership in TAC.

I remember on draft night a few of us were hoping he would be available for our pick at 27 (Sparrow), which is probably why I have always kept an eye on him.

Played 2 games this year and didn't look amazing in those games but is only young and would slot into our next generation brigade well.

Would play on our half forward flank and provide a bit of extra run in his first year playing anywhere between 8-15 games in his first year with us IMO.

He is pretty much an above average foot soldier in most areas and would be plug and play after his first 2 years in development at GWS.

I love the idea of slowly replacing Jones, VDB ANB and Hannan with some youthful running options who will push up the wings and this is what role i see for O'Halloran.

I'm also hoping that Jordan did enough to get a contract extension and hope to see Sparrow, Jordan and O'Halloran get a good amount of games in 2021 as our next generation mids.

Yep I reckon we should go for him, he's got attributes we need so go for it. Make it a part of the Jetta trade if it's going to happen, be interesting to see which club feels the other has more currency.

We seem to be perennially chasing trends and always ending up worse for wear. I am not looking forward to the day Clarko (or some other coach better than ours) or the AFL change the way the game is played and the wingman we finally landed is no longer relevant in the modern game and we’re stuck with his 4 yr contract

Both years was finishing behind some pretty good players in Grundy, Pendlebury, Treloar and Adams.

injuries this year and shorter quarters didn’t help when he played as he has great endurance and often runs out games better than most. Dees actually need players that don’t stop in the last 2-3 minutes of a quarter.

He fits our needs and comes probably at a reasonable price.  All the better if the Filthy Pies don’t rate him. I was going to offer Future 2021 2nd round but they can have pick 63 this year if they like.

Just a reminder. Walks into our best 22

According to Pie fans on Bigfooty he can’t kick to save himself. But according to this article, admittedly from 2018, he ranks reasonably along side the 2018 version of Andrew Gaff.

Such as ? He is a first round draft pick!!!

Can play HB HF and I presume wing and even on the ball

A young player of high potential better than any of our 15/30 list players based on 2020 form and Suns ready to offload him cheaply.

Why is it that every player that gets pushed out of a club all of a sudden seen as damaged goods? They obviously see Daicos as a better talent and I would agree, the kid is an absolute gun. Why keep around Phillips if he's surplus to needs and can free up salary for other moves. Phillips fits in that same mould as Langdon (definitely a better kick) runs really hard as that link between D50 and forward half. Our improvement on the outside purely from Langdon as that outlet was enormous for our structure and I'd take that over the kicks he ends up shanking.

Don't think he's quite in the shape/mould of a winger and certainly doesnt have the speed to work as that hard 2 way runner. I think our numerous experiments with Tomlinson, Jones and AVB have proven that bigger body midfielder type struggles as a purely outside player.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
