Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Preuss for Giants pick 39 seems about right. But I agree he is under contract and it would be good to get Swans and Giants to bid against each other.
I like Preuss with his physical style but with Maxy Gawn and now Jackson’s development, he is surplus and backup only. I think we can trade him to get some value (plus let the man play AFL footy).

Need more than 39 - he cost us a pick in the 20s from memory and now it's a sellers market.

err, not even close

preuss + pick 62 (marty hore) = dom tyson

it was frostball that we paid massive overs for as pick 23 or so, from memory, the pick that became mckenna, who was on our list for a year or two a couple of years down the track

But I think there were a couple of picks in the 40s involved (Neal-Bullen & Billy Stretch).

Future 2nd round pick for Preuss should get the deal done IMO.

For those concerned about the ruck depth with neither Jackson or Bradtke physically ready should Gawn go down, we could recruit Shaun Mckernan as insurance for a year or two if need be as a DFA.

Good call mate, although Goldstein is 32 and Preuss is 25. So whoever gets Preuss will get more service out of him than Goldstein. That said, Goldstein is a much better ruckman - though is he finished?

Bit harsh on Goldy there.  He's just come off a pretty good season for Norf.  Reckon he might still have a few years left in the tank.

The Giants pick 39 might drop to 45 or 50, so that won’t get it done lads. I think they’ll have plenty of pick movement due to the amount of players leaving. Already have Z.Williams (most likely 1st round compo currently Pick 10 - pushed out to about Pick 15), Corr (most likely end of 1st round compo currently Pick 19 - pushed out to about 26). They’ll likely have about 2 more players leave which will mean more 2nd rounders for us to trade Pruess for.

I’m not sure any of their out of contract players appeal too much for our needs. I like Cumming, but we need a winger and a big forward. I’m not sure we should be focusing too much on anything else.

Unless Josh Kelly wants out, then we throw Pruess in with our Pick 23 and Future 1st  ???

I believe both Sydney and GWS have academy players this year which will require a certain amount of draft points. Can't see either of them giving up second or even third rounders, at least not in this years draft. If he goes north then future picks or fringe player is probably what the deal would be.

If we can’t get any picks that we like from GWS or Syd, would we do Pruess to Zac Foot (Syd)?

I liked what I seen when he played. He’s out of contract, Victorian, quick, goal sense, can play wing or as a small forward.

In my eyes, we need more of this type of player and less of the medium forwards that we have.

Sydney have two academy players who are expected to go in the 7-20 range. GWS don't have much coming through the academy this year and are carried a points deficit from matching on Tom Greene in '19 draft. My view is that we could maybe get pick 22 from Swans for Pruess & some lower picks (they may just want to do a player swap), but any deal with GWS would more than likely have to involve a player coming back. Can't see any picks of value coming back from GWS.

Preuss + 47 for pick 22 would be a decent result.

I'd happy give them 62 and 63 as well. Thag means they only lose about 200 draft points for a 1st grade (capable) ruckman while we lose picks we aren't going to use but gain an early 2nd rounder. Win win.

We would have 22, 23, 83 etc

Usually we need to take 3 picks at the draft, including rookie upgrades (with list sizes reducing that could be cut to 2). Either way, we have Lockhart, Brown and Bennell as potential upgrades. We can use pick 83+ on those.

So if we upgrade one rookie, we use both 22 and 23 at the draft.

If we upgrade two rookies, we can use 22 and trade 23 for a player.

Article on AFL.com says third rounder.  Would rather keep him, unless we have massive salary cap issues.

Preuss for Ollie Florent or the Swans can get stuffed.

Preuss for one of their young mids - Hately, Caldwell etc - or Giants can get stuffed too.

I'm being a little facetious there, but at the same time, we hold all the cards.  Why potentially make the opposition stronger for nothing more than a third rounder, which this year is like giving him up for a six pack of beer and a bag of pretzels?

Play hard ball - if they want him, give us something good and you can have him.  Otherwise we keep him and move forward.

Half the writers for the AFL website are laughable with some of the stuff they come up with, so I wouldn’t take anything they say with much respect!

Pruess for a 3rd round pick, in a draft where the 1st round will be 25 odd picks, and same with the 2nd round....pfft

Objectively, that’s probably what he is worth, but don’t see the point of moving him if it’s just at cost. Don’t think we’ll do it just for a third round pick.

Just for arguements sake, Jack viney does want to go to Geelong. I wonder if we can trade Preuss and 47 to Geelong for an OVERS (Tampering) pick like their #17, on the promise that we don't match the UFA bid and force a trade, then we also get compo on JV in the first round too I assume.

Then we have 11 or 19 JV compo, 17* (Geel) and 21 (Haw)

Agree, it needs to be for a player that suits our needs not a draft pick (unless that opens a player trade with another club).

Small forward ideal.

Given GWS have Toby Greene already, I wonder if they'd do a swap for Preuss with someone like Brent Daniels. I'd do that trade, but would they?

I think they rate Daniels pretty highly, unless he agitated for a move (no indication that he wants out), he won’t be moved on. Would think we’d be pretty keen if he were available.

Preuss is this years Frost. Yeah he’d be nice to have but we’ve got plenty of assets tied up in one position. We have to reduce what we’ve spent on rucks to fill other needs.

We traded Frost because it gave us the cap room for Tomlinson (winger - oops) and the picks to make a swap for Kozzie.

Any hope of Preuss earning us a high pick or good player outright is a pipe dream. Academy pick points and future pick swaps gives us a chance - but that kind of wheeling and dealing comes later. If a team values Preuss for an early 3rd rounder that’s realistic.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
