Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Trade him for one of the GWS first rounders that are OOC: O'halloran, Caldwell or Hateley whichever fills our needs most. They'll all have more talent than whatever we might get in the second round this year.

Would love this. All 3 players could add something to our midfield rotation. Caldwell in particular has star potential IMO.

These are the ruck trades (excluding those that are so complicated that it's hard to ascertain the value) simplified from the past 10 seasons so that we can get an idea for the value of Preuss. Some are mentioned twice because they've been traded multiple times.

Matthew Lobbe, Jonathan Giles - Free-ish

Sam Jacobs, Darcy Cameron, Zac Smith, Marc Pittonet, Andrew Phillips, Nathan Vardy, Stef Martin, Jonathon Griffin – 4th round

Toby Nankervis, Trent West – 3rd round

Tom Hickey, Jarrod Witts, Zac Smith – 2nd / 3rd round

Shaun Hampson, Shane Mumford, Billy Longer, Tom Hickey, Ivan Maric, Brent Renouf, Sam Jacobs  – 2nd round

Paddy Ryder, Ben McEvoy, David Hale – 1st round

I think Preuss sits comfortably in the second round, perhaps even at the early end of it. The difference between a lot of the rucks on this list and Preuss is that barely any were in contract and were leaving for more opportunity. We have Preuss in contract, so we don't have to accept a sub-par trade. I'd be extremely surprised if we got anything less than a decent second round pick for him, especially with the thin ruck stocks for trade this year.

Doing some great work this week AoB! Geeeess Stef looks a real win for Brissy.

Think they need more than just Preuss to do that deal. Perhaps a second or third rounder included

Goodwin refused to trial [playing Preuss as a second ruck] for long enough and instead continued to play Tom McDonald even though he was offering the side next to nothing.

He has tried it for 7 games since he's come to the club. We are 1 win and 6 losses in those games. When he was the sole ruck we were 2 wins and 1 loss.

The year before he played 6 games with Goldstein ..... they lost all 6 games. He was only involved in one win, and that was when Goldstein was injured and Preuss was the number 1 ruckman.

Overall, when playing in a 2 ruck setup, Preuss is 1 win and 12 losses, whilst being 3 wins 2 losses when rucking alone. I'm not sure how much more evidence we need to understand that Preuss as a second ruck is definitely not a winning tactic!

Genuinely disillusioned with our club.

Max is turning 30 and we have Luke Jackson, a second year underdeveloped kid as our only backup. (Bradtke is not backup).

Obviously trade period is still a while off, but I can't believe we're not even willing to trial these two for a good chunk of the season. Preuss is coming into his prime and has had two years to learn under Max. Isn't this the reason we brought him in?

I simply cannot understand it.

Plenty to play out yet, Steve.

By the sounds of things, Preuss is happy at the club but his head has been turned by guys like Pittonet who have gone from being  a second or third string ruckman to first choice at another club.

In the end, we either get a good deal or keep him.  That's a win/win for me.

He'd be my pick too, as he can play outside mid and has some toe by the looks. GWS seem to offload their former first rounders who can't get a look in relatively cheaply too, just depends if we can convince him to come.

Yeah they do need points to make up their points deficit or pay for academy picks etc, so they would value something like a 3rd rounder more than us you'd think.

Pruess and 22 for Caldwell with maybe a 4th coming back also.

Would basically be Frost and Pruess for a former pick 11 with 2 years development..

If Preuss has decided to seek a trade elsewhere, what does that tell you?

He came to our club for a reason which was the proposition of playing alongside Max. There is evidence for that everywhere.

Goodwin refused to trial it for long enough and instead continued to play Tom McDonald even though he was offering the side next to nothing.

I'm not sure it tells us anything about the club's thoughts.

Papley sought a trade at the end of last year. Didn't mean Sydney wanted him out the door.

How long do you think Goodwin should have trialled the dual rucks for? And do you think Preuss can work as a second ruck, requiring him to spend long periods of time somewhere other than in the ruck?

He has been underwhelming this far at AFL level. Do like his movement and seems to have decent speed but his kicking appears to be quite loopy. Preuss and 22 would be big overs and I would be surprised if we are interested given we could have forced their hand last year prior to the draft with the Tom Green situation.

Which means Max is turning 30 at the end of next year.

So.. he's turning 30 going into a season potentially without a backup. Jackson is a ripper, but name one other club who begins a home and away campaign with one mature-aged ruckman and the next being a 19 year old kid?

Essendon had 30 year old Bellchambers and 20 year old yet to debut Draper, they landed Phillips from Carlton.

After losing Phillips at one stage during trade week last year Carlton had 30 year old broken down Kreuzer and 19 year old Tom De Koning. They landed Pittonet.

One look through the out of contract list shows: Kieran Strachan, Max Lynch, Henry Crauford, Darcy Fort, Keegan Brooksby, Ryan Abbott, Joel Amartey, Nathan Vardy and Jackson Trengove. And there's bound to be contracted players - Callum Coleman-Jones is probably one - who are available. If we get something useful for Preuss to find a player in our best 22 we can find a 3rd string relief option elsewhere.

It's a trash position. ? We have the best player in the competition in the position and we have an exciting youngster, a pick 3 no less, that can play the position. If we can improve our list in 2021 by adding a best 22 player and giving up Preuss, it's a no brainer.

4 hours ago, JimmyGadson said:

It tells you he sees himself behind Jackson and given Preuss has demonstrated he's not agile enough to play the second KPF, he's happy to look at his options.

Seven games in a new system, with new teammates and new midfield and forward setups is not nearly enough to know whether it could work or not.

I don't care what he did at North. He is a developing ruckman who is late to the game.

Our own supporters bang on about giving players like Oscar McDonald 5 plus years to develop and play half decent football, (still questionable) but apparently seven games is enough to know that Gawn and Preuss don't work together...

And if you really believe the bolded part of your post, what say you to Goodwin's win/loss record since our prelim final loss?!

Is he onto a winning tactic?

Goodwins coaching record with and without Steven May, suggests we should trade him back for Hogan. Yup, correlation doesn't always equal causation ?

  • Demonland changed the title to Braydon Preuss On the Market

Going by past history of back up ruck trades we’ll get a pick in the 40s for Preuss alone. Maybe we could get a fringe player chucked in like Zac Langdon who fits a need. Whether he gets a game is another question. FWIW I think Preuss will make a good number one ruck somewhere.

That may well be true but I feel we’re in a win/win position. Either we get given a usable pick or perhaps a young/fringe player that we feel can step into a role for us or we hold onto him for next year to keep as back up to Max and perhaps even trial a couple of different things with him.

We don’t have a need to trade Preuss out so teams should be trying to satisfy our needs.

Preuss may go but who fills in if Gawn has an injury. We really need to develop Jackson primarily as a forward. Problem is we may get a can't refuse offer, which we take and worry about the rest later.

With tongue firmly in cheek. Mitch Hannan. He has a decent leap.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.abc.net.au/article/12356250

Gawn, Grundy and maybe Nic Nat are pretty much streets above other ruckman in terms of ruckcraft and impact. If we lost Max to injury, it doesnt really matter who you play. None of the top 4 have a ruckman with top 8 hitouts (probably to advantage either). If he was injured id be more concerned about losing his defensive marking and positioning around the ground. Preuss is a good ruckman for ruck situations (for as much/little as that is worth in 2020).  if another club want to give a second or third rounder yup, its a no brainer.

Story in today's hun saying Gawn played last 6 games with knee problems and may need surgery. If we let Preuss go for anything less than a great deal we are nuts. Gawns knees are always a risk we should have good cover for him.

Why the hell did we play him this year, of all years?

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
