Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

"Melbourne is understood to be open to enquiries about a possible trade for the 25-year-old".

Can understand that the clubs position.

Preuss will get regular games at another club.

Not sure who will cover for Max if he gets injured.

Bradke and Jackson don't look ready.  TMac is likely gone.  We need Weideman in the fwd line.

Oh well, interesting times.

Could end up being a great outcome for the club.

Ruck men like Preuss can often flourish at a new club where he can get some opportunities, so hopefully that allows us to potentially secure something decent, whether it be picks or a player, in return.

I agree that it does leave us open re: support for Max, but the club hold all the cards here.  With Preuss under contract these other clubs can either pay up or we'll hold on to him.  Win/win in my book.

I wouldn't be upset if Preuss left but we need (a) to get something decent in return and (b) another ready made backup ruckman.

I can't see Bradtke making it, even if he is still on the list next year and I doubt that Jackson has the size to be anything more than a part time option. Gawn's age and injury history make a genuine backup essential.

Preuss would be nice cover, but also could be a good trade for us. Much better currency than Tyson would have had.

as @Lucifer's Hero points out Tmac may be on way out. Tomlinson only 1cm shorter, Mitch Brown a few cm taller.

Not ideal options but hopefully Jacko has a big pre-season

If we’re willing to let him go, what was the purpose of bringing him in in the first place?

All of a sudden we don’t need back up for Gawn (who has needed time off for injuries and rest just about every year).

Jackson way too young and inexperienced, Bradtke not even close.

A late first rounder/early second which we could onsell for Gunston?

Given he is contracted and certainly a required player.. Anything less than a early second round pick is a big loss from our point of view.

Watch Mahoney be the good bloke and get him to where he needs to be for a swap of third and forth round picks or some [censored] like that.

GWS are the only one of those 2 clubs with something decent to give, I'd be asking for O'Halloran who's got a fair bit of upside and is not just an inside mid, he's quick and tough but could easily play an inside/out role. We'd then free up a bit of cap space and maybe chase Peter Wright who from memory was a better junior ruck than forward, so could be more than just a handy back up but also play forward.

Tomlinson, weid and Jackson can pinch hit. Not sure where Bradtke is at.

I think this is the year to trade him to maximise the return. Giants and Swans are pretty desperate for a ruckman and Pruess is by far the best back-up in the comp. they don’t grow on trees so I’d drive a hard bargain. Swans have pick 22. I’d aim for that.

Unless Pruess wants to go, I just can't understand it from the club's pov.

Max is nearing 30 and we have a first year ruck/forward only as backup. (Bradke has done absolutely nothing so far).

One of the many gripes I have about our club is how shallow our ruck depth has been for so long.

Max becomes noticeably banged up during the second half of home and away campaigns and every year from here on he'll start slowing down.

It's playing with fire in my view.

We are not as skilled as many sides who play smaller. It is common knowledge that we can be picked off in aerial contests by sides with talls because a) Aside from Gawn, we have limited aerial threats forward of centre and B) Our forward entries are absolutely ghastly under pressure and even when under little pressure.

Gawn needs to start playing more game time forward or Goody needs to find more quality talls to give him more breaks. Our gameplan doesn't suit playing one ruckman. This is one of many problems Goody needs to address over the off-season.

Tmac is not able to do both

Because things evolve quickly over 24 months.

Because things are in the pipeline that you and I are not aware of.

Because perhaps the club realise that a 'dominant' ruckman, actually isn't all THAT important.

I'd guess we weren't expecting to bottom out last year and have Jackson on our list.

No way we let him go if Jackson isn't around.

You would have to think GWS would be desperate for a decent ruckman.

I don't think they've ever had one, other than thug Mumford.

We need to play hardball though, I don't want a pick I'd want ready made players involved like O'Halloran, Caldwell, Daniels or Cumming

An early 2nd rd pick for a player who is very limited and only played a handful games in 2 years?  Late 2nd or early 3rd I’d say is fair value.

It’s not about what a player is worth in the general sense, or what’s fair. It’s about what a player is worth to the club they’re going to. Preuss is worth more to GWS, than to other clubs for example, so there’d be more substantial an offer from the Giants.

it doesn't bother me. Jackson is a ruckman and not a forward so worst case scenario we get to blood jackson more.

Geelong and Richmond have shown that you don't even need a ruckman so I'd be happy at using the pick to bring in our lists major deficiency: speed.

We’ve bloated our salary cap with deals like Tomlinson, so if we can get out of Preuss’ cash and use the pick and cash on a best 22 player I think we should.

Jackson is the number 2.

If Bradtke isn’t the number 3 then we should look through the state leagues and other clubs back ups for a cheap number 3.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
